I've never seen any users being out-and-out idolized just because they had a lot of posts under their belts. It's usually because they're recognized as regulars, or known for strong posts.

So yeah, when you start making posts that are worth noticing, you'll start getting noticed. Quality over quantity, as they say.

Because we're great!

And to be honest, it is just a number.

I voted no, if anyone cares.
I think the people in Asylum Open Mic would disagree that it is just a number. I tried to join the nonsense of that group, and noticed a couple of the guys just posting in order to raise their post count. Posting nothing more than "must raise post count" or something similar in order to get another digit under their names. I can't remember if you were one of them...

In any case, a lot of the people in that group annoy me, because they just derail any thread to have a little conversation amongst themselves, or perform a little mutual masturbation.

To them post count matters.

To fresh faces joining, I suppose one of the easiest ways to gauge who is a popular or frequent member here is to check their post count. I don't blame them, really, since how do they know that those 10,000 posts are absolutely worthless.

I guess it's 'coz they are everywhere, they post on pretty much every thread, they respond to people and discuss stuff with them. I guess they get idolized for doing that too the masses. I myself voted no. I don't idolize people with high post counts.

It is natural that people who post more stand out more, especially habitual first page posters.

post count is irrelevent. Eitehr you've just been here a long while or you have no life. Either way you suck.

I personally have never been popular, nor idolized, but just because someone is popular doesn't mean that you should be offended. However, whenever said person that is popular posts in a topic and a large number of people have the need to start up a random conversation with them that is off topic, then yes, I have a problem with it.
Yeah. I'm sorry, all of you.
I guess I missed what exactly you're apologizing for, but okay.

I've been noticing lately that users with large post counts have a large amount of friends and people that idolize them, and I was wondering if you people think that users with larger post counts deserve to be treated differantly to other users?

Also, I want you to tell me why you think people idolize these users.
I think they just have more friends because they've been here longer, which may explain a lot of this.

This is really simple math, and no, I have /never/ seen someone with a large post count idolized.

More posts=More people reading you. You?re not a fucktard=you make friends, simple really.

I was invited to it...and soon there after, I left it. Completely ridiculous.

HUH...

To be honest, I think that post counts above 5000 clearly correlates to a person's longevity on this site, their dedication to the escapist community, and their degree of interest in what is going on in the site.

This doesn't necessarily mean they are more important, but it should not be surprising that their word may have more sway with other members.

It's because people with high post counts have:

1. bum rushed the entire website and have gained their post count in half a year or so. Or...

2. went on a mass befriending spree in their first week of usership, and therefor directly talk to people, which other people notice, and assume "Hey, this guy has shitloads of posts and seems to know everybody. He's probably totally badass or something."

This, coupled with the fact that while posting a lot, you tend to befriend other people who post a lot, creating this web of users with seemingly higher status. But. They don't.

Me and Hubilub tend to derail quite often.
Meh, I don't frequent the forums nearly enough anymore to notice. I don't even know who Hubilub is.

The simple answer is because if someone posts more on the site than others, their name is all over the place. Their opinions are all over the place. It is likely they are here more often. Therefore, it is likely that more people want to friend these posters because they're much more recognizable than someone who has only posted about 20 different things.
