Based on how the poll was phrased, the answer is yes. Given that, in a forum, there is an intrinic need for people to communicate, it follows that people who post are more important to the overall community than people who do not. As such, it can be generally said that people with a very high post count are more important than people with a very low post count.

If the question were instead something along the lines of "Do you think people with higher post counts. . . " I would have answered differently because I'd no longer attempt to answer the question objectively.

I've been noticing lately that users with large post counts have a large amount of friends and people that idolize them, and I was wondering if you people think that users with larger post counts deserve to be treated differantly to other users?

Also, I want you to tell me why you think people idolize these users.
It's because you see them more often. Generally I think they're douches *COUGH MaxTheReaper*, but people like Neonbob are cool :)

Whaddya mean? I don't get idolized! At what post count do I get idolized?!?! Is it 3000? 'Cause this is my 3000th post and I have yet to get blind followers of any kind.

Furburt, Neonbob, Hubilub all examples of escapist idols.
Honest to god, I don't know why. All I did was to copy Furburt's thing and have a flashy avatar.

I mean, it's fun to be recognized, but I think there are ton of users that should be more recognizable than me.

HELL! FUCKING! NO!
Someone with a high post count shows veterinary, or it just shows they have nothing to do but post
*COUGH* people who have 11,555 posts and they joined 5 months ago*COUGH*
But that doesn't mean that something good like a PBJ sandwitch is better than normal PB sandwitch. the J in the end of PBJ is just an add on.

for those that don't under stand it means that a post count means nothing, you can be very well known with a 1 post count.
Totally, you don't even have 200 posts and I see you as one of the standouts here.

You'll go far

Meh, I don't frequent the forums nearly enough anymore to notice. I don't even know who Hubilub is.
[HEADING=1]YOU KNOW NOT OF THE MIGHTY HUBILUB?![/HEADING]

Fair enough.
Oy, we must send him off to the sun!

Or we could just, like, don't care or something.

A lot of people with high post counts seem to have them because they make simple posts at the beginning of topics or just because they spend a lot of time on here. But not all of their points are very great...

But like the other users I listen

I don't idolize them for many reasons, one of which being sooner or later they slip up and get banned. MaxTheReaper, who must have had like the highest post count ever (15,000+) was recently banned for some reason or another. I see it happening frequently--the so-called "big names" of the forum either manage to piss off a moderator or just say the wrong thing at the wrong time. Some of you may remember NecroSwanson last year--he had a good-sized post count, and his banning caused a bit of an uproar. It seems like these high-count users post things so frequently that they stop really considering everything they say. Maybe it goes to their head. Or maybe the mods just don't like the super-posters. One or the other.

They do? Perhaps it's due to mah sexeh body?

Seriously, I don't think I've ever been idolised, or at least not due to my post count. The reverse is far more likely to happen.

Because Hero Worship is awesome and we should all do it twice.

If you've got something valid to say, it shows up in the post, not the count.
If you've spent a while here, it shows in the count.

It's like respecting your elders; If you've accomplished great feats, I take my hat off. If you're my grandad, jog on.

Slightly off topic, why did max the reaper recieve a permanent ban? im just asking you Furburt becuse you seem to be a more in the know member of the escapist with all the avatar making and such.

He was generally flame baity, so he never was popular with the mods.

His final post which got him banned was on a thing about WoW, it was along the lines of

"Fuck you, you're not even a person, your opinion is completely and totally wrong.
Fuck off and die"

While I'm not saying that he didn't deserve some sort of punishment, I still miss him.
Max created a persona for himself and spent a lot of time just perpetuating that persona in his posts. Anyone who does that is going to make themselves a LOT of enemies very quickly.

The thing to remember is that the more you post, the more chance the mods will see you. The more they see you, the more chance they'll pick on the time when you go off on one. Then -boom-.

Someone who only occasionally posts is more likely to get away with the occasional rant unless it's a major break of the rules, like yelling "First!".

And anyone who idolizes me needs to find themselves someone FAR better to look up to. ;)

I guess I do tend to pay a bit more attention to high post counts, but it's more about people who I see around a lot. Strangely, I haven't seen MaxTheReaper in ages, but I see Hubilub, Furburt and Neonbob a fair bit, just in Off-topic Discussion (the only place I regularly visit). So I begin to recognise them by their avatars, not by their post counts. Although their post counts are exceptionally high...

So, I guess I do tend to idolise people with high post counts a bit. So, a Yes from me.
