I laugh at myself and the fandom when it's tasteful, like Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me...'s poking fun of us. Not when it's the "In Living Glover" making fun of us and
lying about us in the process.
Also, I'm in a group, it's called bronies, it's not a "secret" society by any means (secret would never work for bronies), and if we need to drop the "brony" shit, the "Whovians" need to drop their "Whovian" shit.
Sure, it's just a television show, but if I was only in it for the show, I'd be long gone now that the first season is over. I came for the show, but stayed for the community.
