Cause facebook is what my friends use to invite to parties, post pictures and stuff.
I just ignore peoples useless uninterresting updates about their everyday life "i'm watching this and this show on tv now" "i just took a shower" "i masturbate violently to donkey porn with a belt tied around my neck"
Maybe i should get a camera phone, with a facebook app, and then update my status every time i had to take a dump, and then take a pic of it and upload as a comemnt. Perhaps people would get the hint and understand that no-one cares if they just clipped their toe-nails, or whatever they updated cause they had nothing mroe interresting things to do... get a fucking hobby, seriously.

I like the play with the apps, and since I'll be moving a ways away for college I'll need it to keep up with my friends and such. But mostly the apps =P

I don't use it, because I really don't see the point. People that know me, know about me. So it makes things like facebook pointless to me.

I use it to stay connected to friends and family back home. I've been away for eight years; ironically, it probably makes me even more homesick seeing what everyone's up to without me.

Also, Facebook is a wonderful content-delivery platform---I can entertain people in short bursts throughout the day.

I don't use it because I'm anti-social so the whole idea of social networking is anathema to me...
However i can see why people do use it, its ubiquitous, hell even my mum is on facebook so if you want to use social networking then facebook is the logical choice for maximising contacts.

Status updates are almost like one's personal forum. I can let everyone know if I'm in need of advice, or let them know when I'm hosting my next radio show, or something like that, and then people I know (even if they don't know each other) can contribute to the same conversation.

Also, some of the clubs I'm affiliated with (my college's radio station, my MMA club, etc) heavily rely on Facebook to inform people of events they're hosting.

EDIT: Facebook also allows me to have conversations with friends in ways that we wouldn't in real life (for example, a friend posts a status update, or a link, and I reply to it, when said friend would never talk to me about it in a 1 on 1 conversation)

I use it because all my friends use it and kept bugging the hell out of me to sign up... peer pressure I thought that was suppose to end with high school? I check it about twice a week to see if there is anything I should know, unless I get an email via facebook (and that is so annoying, they've got my email address but would rather send me a private message via facebook?)

Twitter on the other hand, I'd rather slam nails into my eyeballs then sign up for that crap.

I see the most common answer to the question, "Why do you use Facebook?" is, "because all my friends are on it."

Well, let me tell you: all my friends are on Facebook as well, and have been for a long time. But you know what? Even when I still had an account, I more often than not used email to contact people instead. I never saw the point of sending someone a message on Facebook when I could just shoot them an email. The only useful application I found was Events, as I found I was more likely to hear about parties and get-togethers through Facebook than email. Every single other application was either a profound waste of time or a monument to human vanity.

Talking to the chick's I would never talk to otherwise+faster than texting. I'm also not a fucktard who added 200+ people for no reason 23 friends and going to probably stay there.

To stalk people
To keep in touch with friends and play a few of the games (not FarmVille), that's about it.

I kind of think what made facebook so popular is the photo tagging. It applied to the dormant (or not-so-dormant) narcissist within us all!

Also, have you seen other social networking sites? Facebook's layout is just so much more clean and aesthetically pleasing.
