I'm thinking about following Islam but my friends keep telling me not to. When I ask them to give me three reasons not to, they can't think of anything. So I am essentially looking for three reasons I should not become a Muslim.

Because converting to a religion is false, you can't honestly just start believing something.

How's that any more legitimate than simply being born into a religion? At least you'd be doing it out of your own will, and not just your parents'.

Convert to Islam if you want, dude. Personally, though, I don't think any religion has the answer.

If you honestly believe that Islam is the one truth, then you should follow it. If you don't believe it, then you shouldn't. It's as simple as that. Faith cannot be dictated by those around you, it is a matter of belief or disbelief.

If you are choosing to follow Islam than that it a decision for you. The only reason I can offer is the social stigma against anything out of the ordinary. Being a Muslim is different enough to create some awkwardness. Especially considering the rituals associated with the faith.

Gotta ask why you want to follow it first.
Can't say I agree with the religion to put it bluntly, anything in which women are regulated to 2nd tier citizens isn't my cup of tea.

Well..its easier to beat down a religion to a child than a teenager/adult.

Unless you Bob Dylan. But everyone knows how that guy went.

Converting to religions is kind of pretentious, imo. You either believe in something your whole life, or you don't.

I picked the last option though because really, IDC.

Have you looked at any Western religion? We're all pretty much the same patriarchal bastards.

Some of them put on airs: "Oh, no. Of course we respect you. We need to study to be holy, you're doing that just by being pregnant, barefoot, in the kitchen." That always sort of bugged me.

1. God isn't real.

2. Islam oppresses women.

3. Islam preaches that homosexuals and Jews should be stoned to death.

Many many others, but you asked for 3.

So, you're a communist, and yet you feel compelled to follow a religion?

Anyway, if you've done your research, studied the Quran and you feel like it's the religion for you then do it. If you feel so strongly about this you really shouldn't care what your friends are saying.

Oh this isn't going to end well... I put do as you please and this is my post to follow that up with a very indecisive "Eh".

I want to know more than "Why you should/ shouldn't convert to Islam" and why you would come to the internet to decide this? Seems counter intuitive.

Im sorry but I have to call bullshit on this one. Theres lots of reasons for people to star believing in something. Nobodys born religous. They can get there through being raised that way but its not something that just happens.

Theres also a lot of reasons for people to start believing in a god.

Ladies and gentlemen, let the Islamophobia begin!
