lol, I'm sorry but this thread idea feels arbitrary. There is really no indication that Skyrim is going to be THAT good or THAT timeless.

I'm pretty sure you could have inputted any AAA title be it Portal 2, MW3, Arkham City, Uncharted 3, etc.

Clearly my answer is no.

Zelda: Skyward Sword has been claimed by some websites to potentially be the best Zelda game ever made. While I highly doubt it'll surpass the timeless nature of Ocarina of Time, I'd say it would be the most worthy title to get a thread like this.

For me that would be Arkham City, but OoT was more than just a great game, it was a standout exceptional game in a gen where everything else good was a bit backwards facing (Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy Tactics, Metal Gear Solid and Guardian Heroes all being essentially 2d) OoT was pretty much revolutionary. So unless Skyward Sword turns up at the last minute and demonstrates that motion controls are actually good, and add substantially to gameplay we won't see that again.

IMO I never found Ocarina Legendary, probably because I played it AFTER Majora's Mask, which blew my socks off and into orbit. Back on subject though, I think Skyrim is to much of the same Bethesda trialed and tested method of RPG's. OoT was awesome because it was fresh and completely different from the last game (Link to the Past if memory serves me correctly?). If any game was to become the next OoT, it would have to be new and exciting, something society seems diametrically opposed to (see Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3 etc.)

There wont be a new Ocarina of Time. Ocarina of Time was revolutionary, but it's not as good as most say it is. It was simply the best around in a market hungry for something new. It's a great game, but it's not that special.

Even though I had some of the best gaming experience in my life with Ocarina of Time, considering how many hours I spent on that damn horse, I believe I will have that type of great experience x a million.

Oh God I can't wait!

No, Ocarina of Time is that generations Skyrim. OoT certainly was important, but this is going to be EPIC.

Can't. Freakin'. Wait.

No. I do not think it will be a semi-good game that will be falsely elevated to it's "Legendary" status by a cult of fans.

What it will be though, is a decent sandbox RPG with a group of modders that will keep the game alive and going for years and years to come.

I quite like the idea that it will be this generations Morrowind.

See, the reason we remember titles like FFVII and Ocarina of Time because they did something that changed the standards for games that came afterwards. Not that I'm bashing Skyrim or The Elder Scrolls, but I can't see some way in which Skyrim would redefine gaming.

OoT was one of the first (and the most well done and successful) games to bring a full 3D, sprawling, changing game world with the then revolutionary Z-Targeting, faithfully translating a beloved franchise and oh you you know the rest. It's bloody OoT. It was one of the defining moments of console games.

I can't see Skyrim being anything other than a really RPG.

Never played Ocarina of Time, but it never looked as appealing to me as A Link to the Past.

Skyrim looks more interesting to me personally.

So I'll say no.

Considering how hyped Skyrim is, i feel it's going to disapoint people because there is simply no way it's going to be as big a god-send that everyone is making it out to be.

I really hope it is for you guys though.
This is why, three days before release, I decided I didn't want it any more. I just know that I'll get mad at it completely irrationally.
Probably pick it up eventually. If I get the itch I still have Oblivion, Morrowind and Daggerfall so eh...

Edit: Forgot to answer OP's question... No. I wouldn't even think to compare the two.

Maybe I'm stretching it here, but I think Skyward Sword could be the next Ocarina of Time. :3 From what I here, at least.

While I respect Ocarina of time, it wasn't a 'legendary' game. And it is hard to compare Skyrim to a game made so long ago. If anything you could compare Skyrim only with its predecessors like Morrowind and Oblivion. Will it live up to them?

Too much hype will surely drop the enjoyability of it for some people. It's not going to be the perfect game lots of people are thinking, it's just going to be a really fun game.

I doubt it'll be the Ocarina of Time of this generation. I don't think that many of these new games will compare to how high Ocarina of Time is on people's pedestals.

As for me, games only need to manage to be fun--not perfect.
