I probably never will grow out of them. Starting playing when I was 5 and 19 years later I still game daily. Working 40 hours a week hasn't slowed me down at all.
I'll probably eventually stop... starting to work a lot more and starting college in a few weeks, so that might stop it a little... plus with Activision Blizzard being assholes, not going to buy much from them anytime soon... I don't really see it as some immature or kid thing, but I don't see myself doing it forever... and the poll options kinda suck...
judging by your 14 posts i would like to say welcome, you are obviously new to the escapist. on that note, you are posting on the escapist so comparing video games to vending machine toys is probly not the best idea. also, yes gaming is a lifestyle.
First of all, don't judge me by the fact that I don't have a large number of posts. Gaming is no more of a lifestyle than accounting is. People who say that it's a lifestyle make me ashamed to play games myself.
"Outgrow" video games? That sounds roughly analogous to "outgrowing" sports or books or television. Games have been growing alongside us since Nintendo hauled the industry back to its feet in the 1980s; how on earth could you outgrow a medium that encompasses such a wide range of appeal?
Perhaps you might not have as much time to game as you grow older, or not many things will come out that you want to play (and simultaneously, the games you have already lose replay value). That's not an indication of growing maturity, it's the simple addition of outside constraints. Losing interest in certain types or genres of game is natural, but going all the way and claiming to outgrow the use of leisure time altogether is self-delusional at best, tragic at worst.
So no, I will not outgrow video games. They're simply too large overall to grow past.
I definitely can't see it happening anytime soon, especially since adult gamers seem to be becoming more accepted with time. For as long as you still enjoy something I see no reason to stop.
The range of games I play will narrow with age, but I don't think I will abandon them before I have a family and don't have enough time, or I get arthritis in my fingers.

That was what I was thinking too. And like with television, films and books you don't need to be in any specific physical condition to enjoy them (unlike sport). So I could be playing them till i'm very old.
I've been playing games for over 25 years now. There have been times when I was bored with playing for longer times. But untill now there were always new games that re-sparked my interest. I doubt that will change in the future
