I'm not much of a humanist, but shouldn't you people complaining that whole swaths of will now never procreate be happy that the gene pool will be further refined?

you're saying that's a bad thing? the world is over-populated, and only truly depraved people would by this. this might be a good thing, as only people (well, those who can afford/had morals allowing them to buy it) wanting to reproduce will have sex with another person, reducing the number of children born to uncaring or unprepared parents, the abortion issue will almost vanish, and quite possibly teenage pregnancies will diminish.

Wouldn't people this desperate not procreate anyways?

First off, getting a girlfriend isn't that hard, but it IS expensive.

For such a man to say such a thing in all seriousness of a selling point of a product tells me he has a loooow opinion of women. This is not news, considering it's the sex industry, which objectifies women as sexual objects. But now we have literal sexual object depicted as women. Bringing "life" to what men like the engineer seems to think of women.

(Having had more than mere exposure to the Sex industry, I can speak from knowing men like the kind I describe.)

Perhaps sex robots is a boon, and I'm not seeing it. Guys will stop sexually idolizing women, and idolize their robot dolls instead. At least, even if it's a little. Then guys like the engineer can be pigs, but satasfied pigs; never needing to offend the opposite gender with their advances.
