I have enough trouble trying to keep myself from punching my little sister in the face for the amount of driving I have to do for her.

What hope does an entire population have with me?

Gods...

I immediately remembered a line from "Röde Orm", a book about a great viking and his adventures.. (Red Snake, directly translated, but apparently the english translation is The Long Ships... Or just Red Orm.)

There is a part where Orm and his friend Toke are in Constantinople.. A man they have saved and befriended is telling them about Islam, and about how Allah or Mohammed forbid muslims to drink wine. Toke falls to his knees, praising his own gods for not giving a shit about what he drinks.

Just remembered it and thought I'd share it, that's all.

As for me, I would never want to become a god. If i truly had to, Im not sure what I'd do. Apart from being the most loving and kind god i can, that is.

I have trouble striking a balance of macro and micro, it's always too much of one or the other. So probably not.

Yes, cause I would actually answer the prayers of my creations, not let them kill each other over me, and you know....be fair....unlike the selfish "dead beat dad" god that we have unfortunately been stuck with.........if he is even there =P

I've played enough RTS's to know I'd make a lousy god. Something important would get left out, and as soon as I noticed it I'd be totally embarrassed, but by then the damage would be done. We'd be humming along, as I saw it, and meanwhile down below the "contented" villagers would be thinking, "What kind of douchebag god forgets to invent sex?"

Definitely not. I'd create loads of weird scenarios just to see what happens.

I would be a good god I think though I may be overly harsh. Follow my rules and you will prosper. Piss me off and get owned!

I think I'd be "good and kind," but I would still make a horrible God. I just don't have the managerial skills for the job.

Ahahaha... MWAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA
OT:... maybe? Oh wait, NOPE. I'd probably be pretty cruel. Infinite existence is a monotony broken by human torture, unfortunately.

Yeah, but I'd probably do a few evil things just to fuck around.

To regain favor, every time I do fuck around I'll give my subjects(or whatever the correct term is) something great in return.

I'd probably be like how many people see the Christian God: Never around. People would say, "God, please offer us your guidance!" and I'd go, "Shut up! I'm playing video games."

I am currently writing a book, it is a fantasy book in which gods play a integral role. I have created some fictional gods, most of which are scheming, backstabbing, deceiving and exploiting. The reason for this is basically that these individuals are free of all social, religious and other restrictions. So i thought to myself, would i be a "good" god? definitely not. It would probably start small, killing evil people etc. But sooner or later i would be seduced and corrupted by that power. Naturally this was a question i had to ask you escapists. However, please remember that this is a fictional book, and i have no intention of hurting any religious sensibilities.

It somehow got in the "gaming discussion" forum...
Define 'good' first. What does it mean to be a 'good' god? To be at every whim of your believers? To shower them in gold, food and happiness? Or does it mean to be a fair god that punishes the wicked and doesn't bother the faithful? Furthermore, what's good for one can be bad for other, so is it just the perception of your followers that describes your 'goodness' or is there some moral law above you as a god that decides about it?
Try to explore the topic from that angle, would make much more interesting topic in a fictional book rather than the black and white scheme that's boring and predictable.

EDIT: If you haven't already, i recommend Neil Gaiman's "American Gods" as a food for thought about creating divine entity in fiction.

I'd be a pretty amazing god. There'd be evidence of me, so people'd have no problem being devoted. I'd answer prayers, encouraging people to pray to me, which would give me all the power I needed to ensure that anybody that harmed others decided, of their own free will, not to. I'm god, after all. I operate without the constraints of logic. I'd elevate humanity to the point where it could choose what to do with its own existence, and give them the choices. Retain their mortality, live a natural life, and die? Your call. Fly off and explore the cosmos? Your call. Just want to talk for a bit? Fine by me. Just watching the sheer range of choice, unconstrained by material concerns or the evil of others, would be fascinating.
