Poll: Would you be a good god?

I'd throw my powers in a bin probably.

Being a god, depending on the definition, means you know everything, so you know full well what every one of your actions will accomplish, making it incredibly boring. Now if I were a comic book god, I'd probably still throw my powers away, being a god like those means you will constantly get into fights with super powered individuals, some of which can kill you, and I'm not putting up with that kind of bullshit anytime soon, certainly not willingly.

Though I'd certainly elevate people who I think deserve or need to be elevated beyond their current abilities. Mostly through improving their judgment.

EDIT: If you haven't already, i recommend Neil Gaiman's "American Gods" as a food for thought about creating divine entity in fiction.

As far as whether or not I'd be a good god it depends on how you want to use your theology. If you want me to be an almighty god in a theology where there are no other gods... I'd probably suck. I'm not exactly good with people and I tend to have a very short fuse with them. I'm also probably not into the idea of "creating," nor destroying. If I was that kind of god I'd probably just occasionally throw out some random creation into a world of total chaos with no balance.

But if you maybe assigned me into a theology where there are various gods that do various things, I might be a good god of death. Not an evil one. I wouldn't "murder" people, I am not a bad guy; but I have a respect for the dead and am deeply spiritual. I would act as an angel and make sure that the dead do not stray off their path and find themselves lost, I would take them to their rightful place in the underworld and give them guidance and advice in the afterlife. If anything was unsettling them, some unfinished business or a problem with their family in the real world; I would offer them closure or help act as a conduit so that their qualms can be put at rest and they can continue to rest. I would also watch over the world of the living to a degree and do what I can to protect the living if some evil being were to interfere and end a life early. I would make sure that those, both living and dead, do not get tampered with by the other realms or any evil corruptions.

I'd be the perfect god... meaning that I'd do nothing. Gods aren't supposed to interfere with the lives of mortals, and when they do it's too obvious. I'd just sit up in my god throne and play video games, or something like that. In all honesty, humans can do their own thing, I have Halo: Reach and Starcraft 2 (I do have Halo: Reach, but my computer sucks too hard to run Starcraft 2... sad face).

I think.. yes, but only on a long enough timeline. Same as what I'd do with superpowers if given the chance;

Unite the world in the face of a common enemy (moi) and be only as bastardly as necessary.

I'd just mess a load of things up, make the whole god thing user friendly for me, create loads of planets exactly the same and put them in different scenarios all with a pause button.
Probably make them more game like as well out of sheer boredom, go join random battles, make a planet turn into the fallout universe and wander around there for a while and all that other stuff.
I guess I'd be a mix of good and bad, like helping people out and then using a load of people to see if how high I could stack them on top of each other or relase a zombie plague and go join in to see what'd happen.

I think that overall I'd make a decent deity - but I would also get bored and start randomly turning people into giants to stir things up.

Edit: Also, I would make a boulder so large that even I could not lift it. AND THEN I'D LIFT IT.

I tried to play Black and White good then evil but i failed at trying to be evil. Though I can imagine an ennui passing over me being almost suicidally depressed from being able to have everything I want. Might change who I am so I but probably yes.

Heh true, in my case something between chaotic good and chaotic neutral, since even being mortal when I have a bad day or someone pisses me off, I can be an extreme bastard. In general I would try to gain dominance over one domain that would attract a lot of worshipers, if that is possible that is, then depending on the element be a fickle god who demands prayer so he doesn't turn his power against anyone not praying and on other days acts like zeus in most greek myths .
