For a while just to see what it's like.

Despite what idealistic "libertarians" think, men and women are different.
You probably meant 'liberals', BTW.
I don't really mean either one, hence the quotes. I'm talking about those people that think everyone is "equal" ...
Communists?
You know, the kind that thinks everyone should be treated exactly the same way. Maybe we should ask children to work too heh.

There are many kind of discrimination,

Hostile discrimination : "We don't serve black people here."

Benevolent discrimination : You are moving office, you don't ask the old guy with a known history of problems with his back to help move any of the heavy stuff.

Misguided benevolent discrimination : "quotas" in education and job placement

The problem isn't discrimination, in fact it's necessary for a civil and caring society, but what form the discrimination takes.

Yes, I'm generalising a bit. But various subgroups of women do share common "attributes", which are not possessed by men, so some generalisation - while inaccurate - is still "useful" for discussion purposes.

Just thought it would be interesting to know what it would be like to be a "typical" woman. What emotions would I feel in reaction to various things? What "motives" would I feel?
Libertanians are those guys who are the advocates of the small government.
The thing is, even if you changed sex, all you'd get is knowledge of how it would affect you personally. Do you really understand the motives of all the other men? Is your identity mainly formed by your sex?

You could get some knowledge of how your hormonal activity for example affects you (and even that's not the same for everyone. For example the mental effects of periods change from woman to woman), but that would ignore the cultural aspects, for example.

EDIT: Also, not everyone is 'equal', obviously, and if you look at women and men as big groups (as opposed to on individual level), you could certainly spot some trends there. Especially if we look into societies where men and women are treated very differently, as the cultural environment would have an effect. (For example, in a society where women are denied education, women would as a result be dummer and less informed. Not because of any biological thing, but because they never had the same treatment men did)
But even if men and women really were different, it wouldn't mean they shouldn't be considered equal.
Ya, I know, as I said, I wasn't using the right word. It's was just what came to mind.

Having a temporary chance to be in a woman's body is just to satisfy my curiosity. That all there is to it. LOL. While I know everyone is different, just like every cheeseburger you eat is slightly different, it doesn't mean I can't get a "typical experience" and see SOME things that SOME women might see and feel.

Men and women are different. When it come to the topic of equality, they should be treat as equals in areas in which they are equal, and otherwise not. I think this is a pretty simple and IMHO obviously correct course of action to take, I don't really understand what all the great debate on equality is about.

To digress a bit, when it comes to communication, which seem to be the big topic in gaming discussions these days, it's very difficult for them to be "one of the guys". IMHO it's part cultural, part biological. Men do not on an instinctive level react the same way to women as they do to other men - this propagates "upwards" into culture IMO.

I'd do it if I could change back again if I wanted... and only if it was a clean change, I wouldn't want to look like those half man half woman weirdos

Change to male and never look back. I'm... I guess I must be a very uncommonly uncomfortable female.
As in my being a woman actually has health ramifications personally. So I don't enjoy any of the benefits of being female because my confidence takes hits before I even leave the door. (Don't ask for details, but end of the discussion is I'm very unlikely to have healthy pregnancies, so I refrain from taking risks.)

I just feel I'd be socially and health-wise more comfortable as a male. Would I want to undergo a sex change in reality? Errrr... naw. Not likely. It's too messy a process on paper for my tastes and as uncomfortable as I am, I can live with it.
If I could magically bend reality as such that I was born male? Fuck yes.

If it's SOME thing, SOME women feel, how is it 'typical'?

People, men or women, are individuals. Wouldn't treating people as individuals be the best solution? For example, on average men are physically stronger than women. But, not all men are equally physically strong, and some women will be stronger than some men.
Now, if we look at a job, for example, that requires a lot of physical strength, we shouldn't go 'we need a man for this job', but rather 'we need a physically strong person for this job'.

Why should women be 'one of the guys'? That very choice of words suggests women can't be accepted as women, they need to be men.
How about we all just get along? I have male friends. We play video-games and talk about things. I know groups of people that consist of men and women and who hang out together.
People are cabable of acting like the members of the other sex are people too.

People might not react to both sexes the same way, but they will also instinctively react differently to physically bigger people, or people of different skin colour, or age.

That doesn't need to be a problem.

I don't know if I'd be happIER as a guy, but I'd still probably be happy. No makeup, hair straightening and periods would be nice, too. Also all the men in my family are really good looking (so are the women, but the women all inherit the same inner-tube stomach - seriously, every woman has the same body shape).

I don't think I'd ever change gender in real life, but if I could pop a potion or the like and be a guy for a while, I'd probably enjoy it. Also - girls are much nicer to look at naked than dudes, so that's a plus.

one day I'll be able to make the change provided the technology is there and society learns to be accepting.
Completely amateur-hour advice here, but I'd suggest waiting a bit. I'm sure the technology to do better surgeries of that sort will come in time, and get cheaper. Maybe in 2025 you'll be able to buy yourself a Megan Fox body, eh? Eh?

That'd be awesome.
Haha, I've actually thought about that before, along with the fact that society will inevitably become more LGBT friendly over time the way things are going. I'm not sure how long I want to wait though. :/

[small]On a side note, I don't think Megan Fox is really that attractive...[/small]

Eh, "more cushion for the pushing" might be more common than you may think :). Afterall, a layer of fat actually serves a purpose for procreation, just like many of the other physical attributes guys are attracted to.
I don't doubt plenty of guys are attracted to chubbier women. Regardless, this is not reflected in our media or culture of social norms.

Although i do have to ask a few questions:
1. Who comments about your lack of makeup in terms of sexes
Both. A bunch of female acquaintances, an ex boyfriend and a few male friends have told me I would look prettier with make up.
2. How often do women get physically abused for not wearing makeup? Sure i imagine guys without muscles dont get snide comments like a women being picked on for makeup would, but are more likely to get the @#$% beaten out of them for random reasons because they are easy marks.
Men are as likely to get targetted for a beating merely because they lack muscle as women are to get randomly raped merely for being women. Lack of muscle may make it difficult to defend yourself from arbitrary abuse, but it is absurd to suggest it is the reason for the abuse. They might get picked on for being socially awkward, nerdy, or because they have something worth stealing.

Comparing make-up to having muscle is fucking stupid anyway. Why are we comparing at all? I didn't fucking say women's gender roles in the western world are empirically worse. I just said that gender roles exist. Since I behave in what is largely considered by society as a masculine manner, I would prefer to be a man. If you were a man who had "feminine" traits, obviously being a man would seem shitty to you.
I wouldnt blame women for men without muscles being picked on, as I have mostly seen it coming from the MEN's direction. I would assume the opposite is also true.
What the fuck are you talking about. I never blamed men for anything. Both women and men play a role in perpetuating sexist gender roles. When the fuck did I say "Women are expected to wear make up AND IT'S MEN'S FAULT". I didn't. I said women are expected to wear make up, and I think that's shit.

Fuck my life.
I can agree with everything that you just said. Sorry if i came off as hostile.

On a personal note, I actually do not notice makeup a lot of the time. I can understand dolling yourself up for a first date or important event, but everyday? seems like a waste of time and it actually gets under my skin, ditto to high heels if they make you uncomfortable. Although if it makes the person happy, then more power to them.

Course i feel the same way about ties (I F#@$%@# hate ties).

Oh, she's attractive. She's just attractive in a really particular way. A sleazy, greasy, oily kind of way. She's trashy-hot.

OT: Why not. I'd like the opportunity to change back if things ain't working out though. Grass not always greener, and all that jazz.

If by magic for a limited time, yeah. Just to wear nice, varied clothing, jiggle my boobs and maybe do some other stuff. But sweet lordy the idea of birth and periods and other womanly stuff scares me, so I would definitely be out of there by that time ...

Yeah, fair enough. I'm kind of on the same boat as Moviebob in that she's more attractive than the average person, but for her to build a multi-million dollar career off of getting men to go see crappy movies because she's in them is just ridiculous. Especially when you look at the array of other Hollywood actresses.

Hell no, MAN all the way :D

I'm naturally an introvert and the social expectations of being a female (having to look nice, dress nice, make up, etc.), more hygiene care, and the shit they have to deal with some gaming/computer communities are some of the things that make me glad I'm male.

Of course, I've never been female so I don't know how good or bad it really is >.>

More ridiculous than people getting famous for being reality television sensations?

Poor Ms. Fox is a lesser evil at best.

Yeah. No offense to the opposite sex, buy I'm cool being a man.

Honestly, it wouldn't make a difference to me, really. I'd still be outgoing, have all the friends that I currently have, enjoy sports, love music, bask in the summer sun, loathe the winter cold, read and write fiction, and of course, play video games.

If it's a magic, change-at-will thing, hell yes I would. Not forever, but I would certainly like the ability to go female every now and then, at the very least just to get a better feel for how life is for women. I'd rather it be a power I control, though, not a one-time thing. That way if I was getting cold feet, I could switch back to male and then try female again when I feel ready.

Yeah, I think I'd jump at that chance to change.

Admittedly, largely for sexual reasons, but still.
If I were ever permanently changed by it, I don't think I would be that much of a different person. I don't consider my gender to be one of the main focal points of my personality, so I wouldn't really care all that much if it was a permanent change.

Although, as a woman, I think I would be a slut. Like, I would try to sleep with everyone I could. I'd try to do that now, but people seem to be more open to a woman with that type of personality than a man.

I'd love to spend a week as a woman. Would be fun as shit. As for a permanent thing? Nah, I like being a male in a hetero relationship.

Maybe for a few a weekend for perverted reasons. But there is no way that i would want to stay like that forever, first of all i couldn't do my job properly and it would be way too bothersome to do my hair and apply makeup every friggin morning, plus leg shaving and whatever else girls do. To put it simply i like being a lazy guy.
