Even if I wanted one, I don't think it would be a good idea for me. Tattoos are generally placed in a location on your body that doesn't have any hair. For me that would be... my forehead, my hands and my feet. Those are all very bad places to get tattoos.

In have the basic concept for my first tattoo already down on paper. I need to do a little more research about the tattoo itself, and fine layer it. But otherwise I'm completely ready to get a tattoo.

So long as it's tasteful, meaningful and something I won't regret then I'll get a tattoo. Just need to think of something tasteful, meaningful and something I won't ever regret...

Nah. I think they can look pretty cool, but I have a feeling I would regret whatever I got in a few months. I'd want to change it. Tastes are constantly changing. Just in terms of musical taste, 5 years ago, I listened to gangster rap. 4 years ago, Pink Floyd and Rage Against the Machine. 3 years ago, modern rock. 2 years ago, Viking Metal. Now? Absolutely everything. Imagine if I'd got a tattoo one of those years based on musical preference. That would suck now.

And then watch Notch destroy the game somehow and make everyone hate it...

I already have one, but it's future-proofed. It's an empty square measuring one centimetre to a side, drawn in black ink on the side of my elbow. I often forget it's even there, so I don't see myself getting tired of it any time soon.

Also, it's just a square. Doesn't represent anything to me, and it never will.

I've come close twice, I have a fund set aside to afford a very nice sleeve. It's custom drawn and holds markers for everything that defined me for my first 10 years in America.
However each time I consider going I think, even though I've had about the same personality and outlooks since then, I could change at any time, especially with the end of college approaching.
So nope. Not now, maybe someday!

Plus as far as I'm concerned, it's a contract. get a tattoo, work out to keep it looking proper. Care for it properly. Just... taking a responsibility not to look like a worn out blotch.

Firstly, this topic has been done to death.
Secondly, yes but it would have to have a meaning. I pity anyone who gets a tattoo just because it looks cool.
Why so? Your view on things and priorities in life might change and then that meaning will become less worth. An aesthetically pleasing tatoo is more lasting imo.

OT: Yes, i'm currently planning on getting one. As soon as i'm finished with my idea and have enough money i'm gonna do it.
But your tastes will also change. If you had a tribal tattoo or a skull tattoo, it may look cool when you get it but you might hate it when you grow older. At least one with a meaning will tell you about what you used to be like.
That said though, not all tattoos need to have meanings. Some tattoos without meanings can still have a meaning to you. I mean the ones that you saw on the wall of the tattoo parlour and thought that looked badass, but actually looks stupid when you are no longer obsessed with death metal and don't think Papa Roach is a good band.

I have several. The most important being one I have in memory of my brother who passed away. Me and my 4 surviving brothers got similar tattoos for him.

I'll agree to all of the above.

But hey! It's a question that gets done to death in real life, why not the forum?

If I were to get tattoos they would have to have a deep meaning behind it. Let's face it tattoos need to look cool but they're also going to be with you for a long time! Better it be something you can bare with pride and not something you have to be embarrased over cause the 'tribal patterns' out of fashion or something.

Perhaps, but it would have to be a design that really mattered to me. That said I would never have any words inked into my skin, since I would probably end up in a typography rage after to long, even if they were in a different alphabet on the the grounds that I would be way too suspicious of whether it meant what I thought it meant.

Most definitely. Not now though, I don't know what I want.

If I had to get a tattoo today (or the world would end, I dunno) it would be the AssCreed triangle thing. that looks pretty awesome. Plus it kinda looks like an A, and my name begins with an A, so that's, y'know... A'.

In a perfect world, I'd have both sleeves done and maybe some sort of chest piece. Tattoos are awesome.

I'd never get a band tattoo, or a really obvious shout out tattoo (I remember a picture of some guy who got a cake and companion cube on each of his calves. I face palmed), the Assassins Creed one doesn't scream game nerd, which is why I like it.

As a side note, on my leg, I have 3 small freckles that kinda look like a triforce. It makes me feel cool

I've got 3 and plan to have many many more. I love tattoos, they help make me who I am. I've got a half sleeve which I'll eventually extend to a 3/4 sleeve and then do the same on the other arm. I truly love tattoos and prefer women who have them to women who don't

Incidentally, me and my tattoos:

Soooo... yeah

No way, I personally think they are pointless and kind of silly. And just like with plastic surgery it might look nice now but when your skin starts sagging you're gonna look ridiculous.

I really like this comment, partially because I got mine for almost the same reason. After all the comments I've read I would say that, in my opinion, a tattoo should mean something special.
I got a tattoo on my forearm of my mothers name and date of birth. This I got because I never got to know my mother before she died 3 days after my birth. I got mine as a permanent memory in my mothers honor, which is quite important to me.
So, yeah, get a tattoo that means something very important to you and not based on whatever other people would think.
And I can't stress enough that this is entirely my personal opinion. Peoples reasons for getting "inked" vary from individual to individual and should be their own choice based on their own merits and wishes.

As long as you do your research, and don't follow a stupid trend, like getting stars or tribal tattoos. Hate to say it, but if you have one of the following, you're kinda silly

YES YES VERY YES!!!

I will get my name in Japanese done. IT IS the actual phonetic translation and not done with a website or some sketchy guy saying what it is.
it may make me look like a douche but I like how it looks.
and also a triforce behind my right ear, and a maple leaf with the leaf's colours as the flag of the United Kingdom.
and a couple others buuuut I will not be getting those for a while
at least until I move out of my parent's house.
because both of my parents are anti tattoo and anti piercing (anything more than your lobes)

Yeah I've always wanted to get one I just don't have the money or the balls to do it right now.

I haven't really had anything happen in my life yet that would make a meaningful tattoo, but I'm a complete nerd so I have several thoughts about nerd tattoos.

Some ideas I have are: the Triforce tattooed on the back of my right hand, the Decepticon's symbol somewhere, a 1up shroom, a kefka laughing sprite, and maybe the master sword somewhere.

EDIT: Also the Horde symbol since I play WoW, but since that won't be around forever I'm not sure I'd want that.

Oh yeah, you mean generic tatoos made on a whim with little thought behind them? Yeah i agree with you on that. Those are just stupid.
