So I was just watching Good Game (an Australian video game review show) and they reviewed Bayonetta.

During the review one of the reviewers said something along the lines of:

Every time you try to convince yourself that this is okay - just replace the image with a dude. I mean can you honestly say you'd feel the same way about a spread-eagle ballsack flying at you from all directions?
To which I thought, yes I would feel the same way...

Things like

Don't bother me any more than Bayonetta crotch shots.

Now obviously those are parodies, so not the same thing, and also being the exception rather than the rule means a true equivalence has yet to be reached to truly gauge ones reaction, however I still don't think it would phase me.

That being said I'm also an abhorrent freak of nature, so what I feel is often somewhat of an anomaly, as such I'm curious...

Are there really that many men out there that would find this type of stuff uncomfortable?

edit: Really escapist? what's up with the 10 character option limit? :( Ruined my joke.
There's a male version of Sarah Palin---I mean Bayonetta already. His name is Dante from Devil May Cry. Did people ever consider that there is a population of women that have no problem with Bayonetta? My wife finds her sexy, powerful, capable and confident. In her own words: "If Bayonetta were a woman, I'd hit that all day and I would ask her to teach me her ways of butt-whoop."

I go to mixed gender burlesque shows. It wouldn't bother me at all.

Would I find a man in drag uncomfortable? I mean, yeah. Doubt the majority of women would find him attractive either. Some people seem to have the wrong idea that the only way to sexualize men is to put them in the exact same clothing and poses you would a women when that really isn't the case. I mean seriously, are there any women that find stuff from the Hawkeye Initiative legitimately attractive?
In this situation, I don't really think it matters if it's something woman would actually find attractive. The poll is just about whether they'd feel uncomfortable if they saw a man treated in the same way as Bayonetta. Men are sexualized very differently than women, and generally in a less pandering way, so it's really hard to draw up an equivalence.

That being said, I'm pretty sure that it'd be considered more attractive than people would expect, sexualizing men in the same way you would a woman. A little while ago someone posted this video in a thread saying that it was hot, and several other girls I showed it to agreed. It's just a position that men rarely put themselves in, but you're seeing it more and more particularly in countries like South Korea.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't say I was too into that video. Not mortified by, just... meh. Maybe I'm not into dancing. Or maybe it's just modern dancing I'm not into? I saw a video of a male ballerina once and hot damn. Ballet is sexy.

Anyway, point I'm driving at - women, like men, have a generally broad range of people and things find "attractive." I've been chewed for subscribing to "backwards, anti-woman kinks" for this, but I generally find masculinity attractive. Not testosterone poisoning masculinity - not Kratos or Hulk Hogan or whatever - but deep-voiced, scruffy, lightly muscled dudes? Yeah, that's right up my alley. And I generally prefer modestly revealing clothing - an open-collar shirt, rolled-up sleeves. The draping tank tops and hot pants in that video weren't really doing it for me.

But, as you said, you've shown that video to plenty of girls who said they're into it. And they probably were, not much reason to lie about that. But you'll probably find plenty of girl who aren't, just like you probably don't have to look hard to find guys who aren't really into rail-thin big-breasted women above all else.

People are varied, and you can't really pin down a single "ideal man." (Or ideal woman, for that matter) So there's not much point in directing someone to something and going "This is what girls are into." Girls are into a lot of things, and we don't all agree on what those things are. It's just something to keep in mind.

Without thinking I voted "Yes but I said No because I want to stick to those pesky SJWs,? because it sounded funny, and because I had never played a Bayonetta game before. But, after reading the OP, I?m going to have to changed my vote to just a plain ?No.?

I?m sorry, but those pictures are absolutely hilarious, and if a male Bayonetta game would be similar to THOSE pictures then I?d probably go and buy a Bayonetta game for the first time. XD Oh man, that picture of Snake? Man, if Snake had an optional outfit like that I?d probably buy a Metal Gear Solid game for the first time also. XD

Oh, and let me clarify: I buy games on how much I feel they will entertain me, and having Solid Snake doing manly things while dressed like a woman is fucking hilarious and, in my opinion, totally worth my money.

I wasn't trying to say it was everyone, that's why I said that it'd be considered more attractive than you'd expect. I doubt it'd even be the majority, but it's something that I found surprisingly popular. You've mentioned this to me before though, and I definitely don't disagree, people have widely different tastes. I don't care for the vast majority of sexualized female characters for example.

That being said, even if it doesn't strike you particularly, there's signs for what they're trying to go for. Like you can tell when a character in a romance movie is being made to look desirable to women, even if he doesn't work for every character. The dangerous bad boy character who is secretly sweet and tender to the main female protagonist is obviously trying to appeal to the audience who likes that, just like when the camera hugs Miranda's but they're trying to highlight her sex appeal even if not every guy likes butts.

No.

I'd find it funny. I might even play it if it were as well made as Bayonetta is reported to be. I get to try that game for myself around Christmas time on my brother's WiiU.

Pretty sure Dante covers this. But honestly, it'd feel ridiculous because most men and women are attracted to different things. If a bloke did all the same actions bayonetta did, it'd feel out of place. Imagine if she started flexing her arms while winking at the camera, totally silly right?

This is why these comparisons don't work. There are inherit differences between the sexes. Imagine a handjob, feels ok right? Now imagine doing the same action on a woman. Its gone from something you enjoy to you needlessly pounding on a womans genitals, because the same action does not mean you get the same reaction if the subject you are looking at/performing it on is different.

No, why would I? It's simultaneously a power fantasy and a hyper-sexualised version of machismo. If anything, I'd find it hilarious. Platinum/Nintendo, get on this!

I find Bayonetta kinda creepy as is, so I seriously doubt swapping her gender would do anything to change that. That, and I've never found my reaction to gender swaps anything better than eye-rolling at best. My original ideas about a character clashes with their "new" variant and my brain shuts it down as an error of some sort. Probably why I find Batgirl annoying but find Oracle much more interesting, despite them being the same character.

Also, this.
To be honest I wish there were more male characters like the one's in JoJo's Bizare adventure. They're like Bayonetta. They're sexualized and they totally OWN IT! I fucking love it!

I think we might want to try and find out what the difference between a disempowering and an empowering sex fantasy is. Because JoJo's Bizare Adventure and Bayonetta are very much empowering sex fantasies and I don't see too many of them and I'd love to see more.

Voted yes, mostly because the lack of comfort I have about Bayonetta would be the same:

I have roommates and without context scenes in that game could make things awkward.

It makes no difference to me if Bayonetta is male or female. As a few people have pointed out, Raiden is already similar. I'm equally uncomfortable with both.

And the Metal Gear costume for whats-her-face (Quiet, I think that's the name) is dumb regardless of gender.

I'm a Jojo's Bizarre Adventure fan, and one whose enjoyed seeing Dante with his shirt off ever since He was the original Bayonetta.

So my answer is no. Just as long as you go over the top with it, cause then it's SO. MUCH. DAMN. FUN TO WATCH...

No, I wouldn't find it uncomfortable. I wouldn't buy it, because I don't play men if I can possibly avoid it. I just don't want to listen to them, don't want to see their stories, don't care how things pan out for them and most of all, I don't want to look at them.

These days I'm on the fence about Lords of the Fallen because there's no character customisation, no women.

So no, I wouldn't be discomfited by a male Bayonetta. I'd just be disinterested in the same way I'm disinterested by 99% of male characters.

Because honestly, I liked that guy and the implication that such a character would make me uncomfortable honestly confuses me.
