No. Its distasteful. The only reason for putting a nazi in the leading role would be to somehow portray him as not so bad. If you want to portray him as bad, or if you want to satirize the regime, the player should kick his ass, i cant see it (satirizing) happening if the player is the nazi.
Although, there is Battlefield Heroes, where one side is inspired by the nazi Germany, and the other by Britain and USA, somehow that turns out just fine because its a multiplayer game.

I wouldn't mind playing as the nazis, as long as it's strictly on the battlefield and not like concentration camp logistic sim or missions where I'm supposed to massacre Polish civilians.

Yeah good point on the title, I was confused, like, thought it meant "Would you get paid as a Nazi?" or "Would you pay for things if you were a Nazi?". The second makes a little sense I s'pose... not much though.
being german, with jewish ancestors, i can say that the black-and-white depiction of "your average german nazi" is just a few REALLY bad people who drag down the rest with them. Of course, it wouldn't have come that far if more people had woken up, but still, i find the idea of playing a nazi interesting, if made with very cautiously, cause there's just a fine line to walk on, and we all know how the media can make the biggest controversy out of the smallest mistakes.
So, playing a nazi character is difficult because of so many ethical pitfalls, but if you mean "german soldier in WW2" then i guess that could be developed into a nice story... god knows how many diaries of fallen german soldiers are around.

I always seem to end up playing the Nazis when my friends and I play splitscreen, so that wouldn't bother me.
That and the Wehrmahcht was not the Nazi party. From what I understand the SS and Wehrmacht didn't get along too well.

Like to point this out: question is NOT whether you would play as a German soldier, but whether would you play as a Nazi. We know they're not the same everybody. Thanks for the update.
The question is whether you would play as a badge wearing, Third-Reich supporting racist fuck who completely agrees with the ideals of the party and supports the Fuhrer. I said yes, without the killing Jews (any game featuring the holocaust would undeniably devolve into a renouncement of war and genocide, and I would be interested in playing a game featuring a Nazi not to 'explore the character's mind' or some shit, but to simply see battles from a new perspective- that is, a literal new perspective. Like attacking Leningrad instead of defending it)

To elaborate upon some previous answers: the Heer (the land forces of Wehrmacht) was the least "nazified" part of the German war machine. Also, a lot of German footsoldiers, while commonly belonging to NSDAP and having been subjected to Nazi propaganda, weren't that keen on murder. Waffen-SS, on the other hand...
Now I'm not here to defend the Nazis - half my family was murdered by them, for all that's holy - but equating every single German footsoldier with a grotesque Jew-hating baby-eater we know from popculture is one of those things that are certainly not working against bringing back those few decades of worldwide genocide that communists and nazis brought us together.

OT: probably not, but that's just because I'm so tired of WW2 games that I will likely never buy one again. If it was something really REALLY fun and original then yes, but the idea of any WWII FPS just sounds extremely bland and generic to me.
