I'd like to think that I would. But I have never actually been in such a situation, so I don't know.

Only if it's a hot girl who will be grateful and have sex with me in return for saving her.

Well only if it's actually possible to save the person's life without giving up my own life. In this case of a burning car of course I would, I doubt the car is actually going to explode. But for a drowning victim or someone caught in a rapid stream of water, I cannot swim, so yeah sucks to be that one.

btw
the ones who say they would risk thier lifes to help people
are exactly that ones who (in reality) stand in a crowd around an uncouncious person and would not even give basic life support because they they are not yet finished with starring

and when the ambulance arives they all start to give the medics their "very" helpfull advices in how to treat the patient

i worked as a paramedic for a year and i know people just act like that
With all due respect, you don't know me. (or any of the other people that have said that they would, for that matter) So I would appreciate it if you didn't tell me what I would or wouldn't do in a given situation.

No, i'd be the one pointing and shouting "Look at that! something should be done about that!"

Strangely enough, it's my mind that tells me to run away, and my instincts that are telling me to go help. Not the other way around. I think t all depends on how I see it. Whenever those kind of things happen, I do small calculations in my head thinking if I have enough time to get help, or if I have time to help at all.

What ever gave you that idea?

OT: I think instant reaction would be to help the person. I don't even think in that situation I could think of myself, I'd just do it.
sometimes cars start to burn after an accident and they are able to burn really really heavy but in reality they just dont explode as you might have seen on TV
that is just not true

I would say yes in that scenario. I would feel very guilty if they died because no one reacted soon enough.
"If the opportunity presents itself to help another; take it. Always assume that nobody else will, because that is, in fact, very likely to be the case."

I'd do it unless I KNEW that the car would explode before I was able to do anything. And as that is impossible to be sure of, I would of course chance it. Cars don't exactly explode fast, anyway, so it's very likely that there would be enough time to get the driver the hell out of there.

Hmmm, interesting. I know jackshit about cars as you may have guessed, plus I've never seen one on fire so yeah.

Hmm, probably not but then again who really knows. Also I wonder if a stranger would save me if I were in that situation.

if i were the only one or one of few, yes.

depends on the amount of risk. 'there's a tiny chance you'll die' and 'you'll survive if you're extremely lucky' are both risking your life. I would try to save him in this scenario. If Both of us would probably die, I don't think I would. If I could save him while sacrificing myself...
I don't know... probably too chickenshit for it, but that's something only experiences can really prove.

Ah, a classic example of the old bystander effect. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bystander_effect] My personal motto is "Always try to help if possible, even if there are others present." You can't just stand around in a crowd and expect someone else to do it. Because everyone else in that crowd will likely also be waiting for someone else to act. But if one person decides just to take the inititave and go and help, it may spur others into action.
