I just thought of all the main characters saying "Hey, Derpy, come over here" or "Oh, Derpy, only you" and the like. I think I couldn't take anything about the show seriously anymore if Derpy became another main character. Prefer that she's left in the backround, but that we get thrown a Derpy bone every now and then

Main character would be... odd... but I'd like to see a couple more lines here and there perhaps. Maybe a scene where she's important. That would rock.
Cartoons have never been good since Tom and Jerry was toned down. The only thing remotely watchable nowadays is the Penguins of Madagascar, reruns of Warner Bros stuff and maybe...na, thats it.
"Why is it so popular?": Different people will likely have different answers, but as far as I'm concerned it's simple: people like it because it's a good show. If you haven't watched it yourself, do so before you ask this question again.
Now, admittedly, I think it's more than a little over-rated. It's not great. But it is good, and it has an oddly addictive quality to it. The characters are likeable, the animation is well done, and it has some genuinely funny moments. It's just over-all entertaining. As for why it's most popular with males above the target audience's age, I couldn't tell you. Maybe, as Brainy Smurph theorized, it's because they just don't have enough girliness in their lives and MLP gives them the chance to watch something girly that doesn't suck. Honestly, it's unimportant. That's just how things turned out.
So, for those who do watch the show: Who is your favourite character (of the main six?)
First I'll answer the last question. I like Fluttershy the most but Rainbow Dash is pretty cool too (and a non-sexualized humanization in my avatar also awesome)
As for the rest I say well trolled sir, well trolled. All the bronies are complaining about the amount of "Why do people like this show threads" (myself included) and instead of reading through one, or doing a forum search, or going to the MLP escapist group to ask them directly, you instead post another thread with a thinly veiled disguise of a character poll.
I feel like an asshole for saying it, but shit is kinda how I feel atm.
but seriously? I've been out of the loop too long apparently. This is allllll over /co/ Is this show REALLY that good? I mean seriously. Do YOU yes YOU the reader of this post- not OP- really like MLP or do you just do it to cling onto the newest Supermeme of the internet? If it's the former, fine. We all have our hobbies and interests. If its the latter, really think about it. You're jumping onto a bandwagon for a show marketed and made for little girls (which I doubt you are)
Is it worth the lulz? Is it?

Whenever someone gets angry at ponies and pony-lovers, it makes me sad.
Because I just know they'd be less angry if they actually made an attempt to understand why we like it, rather than dismissing it as 'another meme' or an 'internet fad'. I can accept that it won't be a lot of people's cup of tea, and that's great, diversity's a wonderful thing, but such hatred for people who like something that you don't is not called for.
So I'm on this site and I notice it has a forum. I decide to see what people are talking about. Idle thoughts as I start; "These forums probably won't be pony-crazy like most of the other ones." The second avatar of the first page of the first (non-pony) thread. Then I get to the off-topic thread section: about four threads on the first thread page alone. I look around in a couple of them out of boredom, and then in this one, I find my own chart [http://cdn0.knowyourmeme.com/i/000/115/926/original/Memes2.png?1303367312] that I uploaded to Know Your Meme no more than four days ago, that looks like it had already passed through Blogger, at the minimum, before even ending up here.

I think you're being defensive -- you cannot honestly suggest that anyone sane truly hates you or anyone else for liking MLP. Referring to yourself as a "Pony lover" instead of saying "Hey, I like that show" is a bit gag-inducing, I admit, but you haven't done anything worth hating.
You're mistaking hatred directed at you for aggravation directed towards a fad that encroaches far beyond "slightly in your face", which it is. It is a fad, as many good things are, and it will eventually lose favor when the next new thing comes out.
Does that make the show bad? No. Does that make you bad for liking it? No. It clearly being a meme or fad should not affect you one bit. I certainly hope that you have enough of a backbone to handle it when people get annoyed by countless MLP threads popping up no matter where they go. Try seeing it from that standpoint.

So, what, 5 pony threads over the course of a week is really "in your face"? It's understandably annoying for a person who doesn't care for the show, but how many threads per day/week go up on the escapist? Hundreds? If you really didn't want to get involved, it helps not to go in a pony thread. Really does. Because I'd like you to show me a legitimate thread that got spammed endlessly by pony images. That doesn't happen, unless the thread itself pertains to MLP.

I also question the "meme" status the webs have given the show so far. I mean, most memes I've seen aren't actually... good. They're funny for about two seconds and then they're old. I am sometimes rather critical of memes (Still Alive SUCKS) but considering people actually seem to enjoy this show for reasons other than the lulz of it being popular points that it may not be a meme at all.

What point are you arguing? That pony threads are not in your face on the internet in general or that I shouldn't be in this thread? Neither is a valid argument against what I said, so I'm not sure how to respond.

Would you all please take this MLP junk and throw it into a fire. I am sick and tired of hearing of it. (So you went onto a MLP thread because you're sick and tired of it? Even in protest, this doesn't make sense)
Every time I have seen ponies come to a site, they take over. The next thing you'll know, we'll have multiple threads everyday....oh, wait, WE ALREADY HAVE THAT. (Same could be said about Anime Recommendation threads, and they are, but we still have them, and sort of stopped caring when one is posted) On /co/, the comics and cartoons division of 4chan (yes, THAT 4chan) (What's wrong with 4Chan? /b/ is a little messed up, but 4Chan is a pretty cool guy. eh posts funny things and doesn't afraid of anything), the mods actually put rules into place stating that there could only ever be one pony thread at any given time. (That was because there was about 50 of them at once, and that counts as extreme repeat threads. The situation here is not severe in the slightest) Rules! About how many threads you can have on the same show! ON 4CHAN! (Something tells me you've never been to 4Chan. They have rules on every board. They get broken frequently, but they are enforced thoroughly. I'm sure if 4Chan was up in the late 90s, they would have made a rule about Pokémon too)
Please, sterilize the infection now before it spreads. (Why are you now the Surgeon General? If it was an infection, people wouldn't be enjoying it)
From all the pictures I've seen, Derpy, though Rainbow Dash looks like an interesting person. Never watched an episode, but never let it be said that I am someone who will sit around with fingers in ears, pretending it doesn't exist. Considering the sheer amount of Pony pictures on Knowyourmeme, I can't help but check this things out, just as soon as I can.
Calumon: Yay! A show I can watch with Jack without Blindfolds or Earplugs! :3

That's a good point of view, and I must admit as a Pony-fan I do see it from that perspective every now and again (more recently yesterday on the boards to be honest). But then again, most of the commentary directed towards the show and it's fans is, well, less than rational. Or, more to the point, starts with 'Ponies are for little girls,' followed up with comments about the fanbase insinuating us being social pariahs, unintelligent, and every now and again there's a barb about sexual deviancy.
Hell, here's a quote from the last 'Why is MLP Popular?' thread:
MiracleOfSound said:
So I just watched an episode...
A land full of only females, cynically designed to look like various social subsets of teenage girls - permanently stuck on all fours.
Oh, that's not out of context in anyway just so you know. That was the first post made, followed up with the standard 'Watched 10 minutes and got hated it' variety. It's also not the worst one I've seen written on these boards.
Why am I bringing that up? Well, generally speaking that is, it does strike a nerve here and there. Someone asks why we like ponies when we're not little girls. We give proper answers including the quality of the writing, include examples of some of the humour and allegory that would fly well above the head of your average young girl, describe the show's lineage and the other works by Lauren Faust, only to inevitably see someone skip 2-3 pages of content and discussion and immediately post "Ponies are for girls, you guys are fucking sick."
At this point some of us stop, take a deep breath, and force ourselves to go through the entire motions of properly explaining what the deal is. Some of us shorten it down to posting a link on Youtube and say watch it for yourself to find out (actually effective). Or some of us just get tired of it and start posting cute pony pics & memes until they go away. Hell, I'm starting lose energy for making posts like this on the subject of Ponies myself if I'm perfectly honest, more so because I know most people aren't going to read this post (and the other rational posts like it), skip straight to the end and complain about the Bronies spamming the boards with their incessant pictures like the depraved man-children that they are.
*sigh*
Anyway, sorry to rag on like that, but I guess I just wanted you to see things from our side of the fence as well.

Pardon me for quoting your earlier post (there's an answer to your more recent one on the 'spam vis a vis content in threads' up in my ramblings I'm certain), but I did want to tag one thing you said earlier, which kind of the main nit-pick for a lot of us 'Spammers.' Show marketed for girls? Maybe. Made for? Well, to copy something posted by John Funk on our last 14 page extravaganza, here's Lauren Faust with the answer.
Okay, first line and third paragraph are out of context in this case, so do ignore. But she herself admits she made it for adults as well (The plot of one of the later eps consists of allegory for the American Frontier), but it's the part of trying (and failing, for the most part) to correct that misconception that leads to the pony spam. Or at least it does here, I don't touch /b/ under any circumstance, so I won't even try to explain what goes on there.
Now if you'll both excuse me, Superman's keeping my seat warm at the bar. In his immortal words, "Confound these Ponies, they drive me to drink."
