According to an article I recently found off of <url=http://www.cracked.com/article_18532_5-terrifying-ways-your-own-gadgets-can-be-used-to-spy-you_p1.html>something on Cracked, many ISPs, particularly in the United States, are spying the shit out of you and keep data connected to your IP address for a period upwards of half a year. If your ISP doesn't make it obvious, there is no way to tell whether or not you're being watched. ISPs will often give your information to the government and to the RIAA (who will then sue the living shit out of you for downloading two songs several years ago). ISPs may also sell your information to advertising companies. I could be being watched as I type this, and you as you read this.

Oh, and <url=http://www.wired.com/politics/onlinerights/news/2007/05/isp_privacy>here's the article on ISPs.

What are your thoughts, fellow Escapists?

THE GOVERNMENT IS WATCHING YOU.

OT: Honestly? I wouldn't care. And I really, really doubt anyone would be watching my family. Why would they even need to? They're wasting their time if they are. =P

(Weird i voted that i don't care yet it says i voted yes)

I don't give a damn because i generally don't use my real name on sites unless I'm buying something from a website.

Doesn't matter whether or not you use your real name, they can find out who you are via your IP address.

My thoughts are you shouldn't take what an internet comedy site says to heart. While some of it may be true, and its also the reason why I don't pour my life into the internet, unlike what most people seem to do.

Alright, from now on we speak in code. To say "Hello, how are you?", we use "The president dies tonight", "Fine, thanks" is now "Our man is disabling the security systems as we speak".

1. Start using code.
2. Start stopwatch.
3. Time how long it takes to be Party V&.
4. ????
5. Profit!

There's pretty much of this going on here in Germany too. It would feel much more comfortable without it, but I don't care too much to be honest.

Isn't it brilliant, that while people are being murdered and raped in the street, resources are being ploughed into surveillance of innocents? Hmm...
Security is a fun game to play, isn't it?

It's less about what Cracked said and more about what the second article I posted said.

Well, I believe that the capability exists to watch me. However, for one I just don't care and two, well if you ever watch Penn and Teller's Bulltshit series I think they make a good case. Their argument is that there simply aren't enough resources to spy on everyone. It's just not possible.

The funny thing is, even if that were 100% true, I'd probably still pirate download super legal things.
Because there are always newer and more evasive ways to pirate download super legal things.

And like I said. Its why I don't put up personal information onto the internet.
Its also why I don't download or do anything illegal online.

This is why I connect through an encrypted connection to a proxy server, not fool-proof, but better than being watched.
