well, I would discuss it with my partner before hand, making sure what she wants, as I would not force some one into something like that.

However, if it was just down to me, I'd have it aborted.

Having to live an entire life within the mental capacity of a 1 year old is not a life. It sounds more like a living death, regardless if you can realize it or not. Conclusion: abortion.

raise it, it doesnt matter if its mental disabled, its still your child and you have a responsibility to raise it, anyone using the excuse that it would have a miserable life is an idiot and doesnt know a thing about mental disability

No it isn't and no it doesn't.

It's pretty cut and dry. Abort it. I would not marry a woman stupid enough to think that keeping it would be okay. No, it's not okay. It' not fair to you, your spouse, or your other, normal children. Its not fair to tax payers who you will apply to get money from. I'ts keeping teh child alive because of guilt, how is that fair? How can we debate that a 2 week old fetus has the right to live a life perpetually stunted in its development? That's more unfair than killing it. What if something happened to you and your spouse? You're screwing over whoever has to care for it then.

While I don't have a problem with abortions in the first trimester, I tell myself I'd never have one myself. I should live with the consequences.

In this case though, I would say abortion. I'm not stable enough, financially or emotionally, to care for it myself and I couldn't put such a burden on someone else.

Good question, really makes you think.

If they're forever stuck as an infant mentally, there's not much point in them existing. They won't have a happy, fulfilling life, and they become a burden on the state and the family.

I'm not going to answer this question because I'm not there, though I will comment one of the reasons I never had kids is because I figured I'd be a horrible father. However, your idea of placing the child for adoption is pretty much no-sale.

If the girlfriend or wife agrees, I'd have that baby aborted without a second thought.

I'd kill myself before I would raise (or pay child support for) a retard with the permanent mindset of a toddler.
Wait, then what would you do if your girlfriend didn't agree?
The second sentence in my quote answers your question. With the way the US government hunts those who are stigmatized with child support down, suicide is basically the only way to truly escape it.

are we still talking about a child here? cos they way your saying it makes it sound like a dog or a peice of furniture, this is a human being, do-you-understand? i think you dont understand how valuable life really is. So what your saying is that the child would prefer to be dead than alive with a mental disability? is this child now suddenly a second class citizen now that it has a disability, you cant kill a child because of what your or its life might be like, too many people here think of themselves more than the actual child involved

Abort without a doubt.

Retarded people hardly every amount to anything but a drain on time, emotion and the economy. It's better to abort.

Abortion, I want to play catch with my son one day, I want to see him grow from a baby into a full grown adult, not stay as an infant

I guess in a case like this I would abort it. If it's like "Oops, 9 Months into pregnancy!" I would have to take it and raise him/her.

But, at its mental capacity, is it even a human being? What makes us human is our intelligence, while the kid will never possess any, to the point where it is nearly a vegetable. I know the same could be said of infants, but they will change and grow up, whereas your kid would do nothing but grow older. So, what is the point of letting it live when it will do nothing but cause suffering?

It's 2 weeks into the pregnancy. It would be perfectly happy to stay in the womb just as it is. With a few tweeks, we can make it start developing into another animal at this point. At this point, there's no reason to worry about its wants.

The reason people live are to develop and eventually reproduce. A mentally handicapped child of this degree would never be able to reproduce so it has no reason to live.
