TF2, in my opinion, a game without a main goal to kill everything is a good fps for me.

Resistance FoM. The single player was fun, challenging and I liked the story and setting. The multiplayer was also great.

Fallout 3.

Yeah, I know, it's supposed to be an "FPSRPG" or whatever, but it barely has any RPG elements.

It's the only FPS I can think of that doesn't suck, though.
Again, I was thinking about putting that up there...

But again, I realised that it wasn't a 'real' FPS, even less so than Left 4 Dead - if you want to see my reasoning, see my comments about that.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl 1.0004 with AMK Mod 1.41 + NLC + Soljanka Add-On

This beats everything, best gameplay, best atmosphere, best balancing, best "free roaming concept"(no real safe spots and EVERYTHING can happen randomly. Like when you have to take out a base, come to the rendevous point to meet up with your comrades and half of them has been slaughtered by a Bloodsucker, then replay the game, come to the same quest and see that they are all alive, to prove the randomness.)

For the single player Campaign, COD4 for the engaging story and great action. Bioshock for the sheer fun and atmosphere.
For multiplayer, Halo 3. It's the only reason I have a gold subscription to XBox Live.

I'd have to go with Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Those are my FPSes of choice.

I prefer Halo 3's campaign over CoD4's, but I prefer CoD4's multiplayer over Halo 3 'cos it's much more balanced. Although, to be fair, you can make some really fun multiplayer games using Forge and custom maps and what-have-you.

people still play Counter strike? holy shit. i used to play that game all the time on my PC. but now a days i just play single player matches on the original Xbox version. i had no idea that game was still popular. all of my friends and just about everyone i know gave up on counter strike along time ago now they just play COD4/5.

Other - I LOVE ArmA II. It is one of the most versatile, realistic, and immersive FPS games (well, it's more of a sim, but who's keeping track?) I have ever played. Despite some bugs, it has kept me interested since day 1 of its release.

I also really enjoy both S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games. I like to drag those games out and explore ever inch of the gameworld.

Team Fortress 2. It's balanced, replayable thanks to 9 varied classes, and endlessly fun.

Left 4 Dead, even though I don't own it myself. I just think it's great fun, has loads of replayability and seems to be a great game to play with/against friends.
It's one of the few games that I am envious of the 360 and PC crowds for having as exclusives...

Halo 3 - while it is undoubtedly worse than the first two, enough good carried over that it is still better than any current-gen' shovelware.

Other - Far Cry 2 (thought provoking 1 player experience) and Quake Live (quick thinking action fest).

Battlefield: Bad Company. Absolutely loved it. Funny, well done, and I loved the destruction and mayhem.
