I can see Zac Efron as light.

But, i hope Disney is not making this, because it's going to be bad, like the first live action.

Also, I do believe that Zac can be Light, is the fact that Dinsey is not plastering his face everywhere like the Jonas Brothers, Mylie Cyrus and other Disney bands.

Haha! now all Deathnote fans will have to go to the movie and sit next to a bunch of giggling pre-teen "twilight" girls. This makes me smile.

For some reason, the first person I thought of when I was thinking who would be good as L was Rupert Grint from the Harry Potter series. I don't know why, but he's got the same bags under his eyes and he's English (isn't L supposed to be English?)
Nearly all the actors in the whole Harry Potter series are English/British/Irish, it was part of the film deal that Warner bros had to film in England and use strcitly British or European actors. There's barely any Americans in it, in fact I can't think of any.

I think Rowling deserves a medal for that, plus she only sold the film rights to WB for the existing books. Unlike so many who sell their entire soul, it means they won't be able to shill more movies and/or books when they're done.

I thought about Grint, but he can't do scary stares properly.
I'm not asking if the Harry Potter cast is British, I'm asking if L is supposed to be English.

this film is unnecessary. Once again Hollywood has decided to copy an already existing Japanese movie and remake it. I mean, wtf? There's already another live-action Death Note movie that has only been out for a few years...subtitles ftw!

Like a few people have said, he's a pretty decent actor, and he's probably just trying to move into different roles. Johnny Depp started out the same way as a 'Teen Heart-throb', then he did Edward Scissorhands. You know the rest.

It's a gamble, but he just may be able to pull it off. Apparantly he's a manga fan, and Death Note is one of his favourites. Take that as you will.

I've never watched a movie with Zac Effron. The only thing I can see from his résumé is musical films.

I wonder what people will think of him when he isn't associated with Disney anymore.

I'm surprised so many people have just heard of it. Ive known it for the past year...

Give him a chance I say, being typecast is not fun and a serious role may do him well.

... Well, he isn't my first choice. But who knows? He could wow us with an unexpectedly brilliant performance.

Sure, why not? It's not that hard to be Light. Just some intense melodrama, look like a smug bastard, write overly enthusiastically, and throw in some good old latin chanting. Boom, you got Light.

Hey, Hollywood, it's Hazy here.

"Now, I'm just a humble ol' farmer, barely even know ya. And, well, I reckon it sure would be swell if you guys would reconsider this movie, or at the very least, reconsider casting Zac Efron. I think I speak for all of us fans of the series if you wouldn't tarnish the name? Please?"

If the humble farmer role won't win 'em over, nothing will.

Don't forget excessive potato chip consumption and disregard for expensive televisions.

And being crazy. That too.

Thank you good sir for reminding me. But at least that film wasn't hyped up like DB or Avatar TLAB.

That pretty much sums up my thoughts when I saw the thread title.
