Oh, you guys may laugh now, but if this thread were titled "Former Firefly Actor to play Light in 2011 Death Note Film" or "Robot Chicken Guest Star To Play Light in 2011 Death Note Film", you guys would be all over it. Seriously, check out Efron's IMDB [http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1374980/]. Maybe we should him a chance...

I haven't heard of the anime but the movie is going to be terrible, just look at dragonball evolution. Actually on second thought don't, spare your self.

Because this is who you think of when you think of Light. And Christopher Walken is so L.
If it stars Christopher Walken I wouldn't care if Light was played by one of the Jonas Brothers

Well, I am sick of the Americanisation of literally every good japanese franchise, simply for the sake of not confusing westerners.
Leaving that aside...Hey! this means my 10 year old cousins will want to see it. I hope the company isn't banking on that, I would really like Death Note to be at least MA rated; I doubt it would be very serious otherwise.

I could see him doing it, sort of but i don't think he will be as dark i guess is a good word for light in his Kira stage.

If Zac Efron can improve his acting a FRONKING lot by 2011, I support this. I mean, if he could actually pull off the role, it would be cool. Also, Rupert Grint should be L and Johnny Depp sholud be Ryuk.

Perhaps his acting could improve by then, but I highly doubt it. He'll always be the douchey teen idol to me.

Though I'm glad to see someone other than myself thinking Rupert Grint would be good as L, but what the fuck are you talking about Johnny Depp as Ryuk?

Remember Edward Scissorhands? If they change up the costume a little, maybe remove the scissor hands, whammo! You've got Ryuk! It could also be Tim Burton. If Tim Burton could act. I don't know.

Also, this is 2011! That's two years! Acting can improve within the span of two years.

Also, in 17 Again, he wasn't terrible. There was room for improvement, but it wasn't that bad. I can see him pulling off Light. If he practices at least 72 hours a week.

Zac Efron is actually a decent actor. Don't put the man down just because he got his start in High School Musical.
He actually was in other movies before he did High School Musical. (I think, as I don't remember the name or the year the movie came out) But he was excelent in the movie.

EDIT: Just out of curisosity, where does this hate for Zac come from? The guy is a good actor. Just because he was the star in a disney movie(s) which, by the way, he was also good in. It's a shame when people lable you for one thing...

Or maybe it was the other movie where he became a teenager again. I didn't see that one, so maybe that's where all the hate comes from.

EDIT 2: It was 17 again. How did such a simple title escape me...anyway, Of all the Disney actors(well...male ones anyway) he is one of the better ones.

I didn't see 17 Again,
Do it! Its actually pretty good,

OT: No, simply because most anime fans hate him. You shouldn't kill off your main fanbase.

I...guess I see what you mean about Johnny Depp, but Ryuk is like 6'6. You know how tall Johnny Depp is?

5'8. I toward over him when I saw him at a red carpet premier. (I'm 6'1)

He's a short fucker. Plus, he doesn't have the voice to do it. It's gotta be someone with a voice like the guy in the anime.

Also, is this scheduled to start filming in 2011 or be released in 2011? Because if its planned on being released in 2011, then he's only got 1 year to bring his acting skills up to snuff.
