Bioshock, the atmosphere was good, really good. The game play wasn't great though, and the great atmosphere can only be cool for so long before I would like to see a change of scenery.

Another totally over hyped game that was terrible is Rainbow Six Vegas 1. The most I honestly thought my ps3 was broken when I first put it in because the graphics were so terrible. (playing on HDTV with 1080p on)I completed the first mission and never played the game again.

Also why does Aeres/Aerith (whoever the hell she wants to be called) have two different names?

Modern Warfare 2 and the entire Halo series just seem like they don't deserve all the credit they get. They can be fun at times, but there is just so much more I'd rather play.

Halo
God of War
Jak and Daxter, meh lots of others I can't think of.
Most popular games are only popular because magazines say so anyway.

God of War series is actually very enjoyable. Jak and Daxter I had no expectations so I didn't really care that it really wasn't that good, and Halo just got f'ed up after the first. The story is so stupid. Blow up a death ring, blow another one up then 'finish the fight' and blow another thing up.

Fable series for me, as well as Dragon Age. I should add however that in the latter's case I do love the plot, but I found the combat incredibly terrible and since its, you know, a game, that's a serious problem for me. I mean, I did beat the game once, but I can't understand how so many people don't seem to nice the combat flaws.

I can appreciate why Halo and Gears of War, two games I don't play, are popular though. Only real gripe I have with the former is how clunky some cut-scenes feel, which tears me out of the plot so I don't tend to feel anything for the puppets when they die, but hey, at least the story was somewhat interesting. Gears of War, don't find the Locusts too special but again, the game is fun enough. Both games do have solid multiplayer too though I do subscribe to the "good multiplayer doesn't excuse bad single-player" school of thinking.

COD6. Its....just...so...GENERIC.
Yes it it, but it does it well. Thats the funny part, we who like cod 6 will never argue that it isn't generic, we just like to play it because it is a fairly decent modern fps, with a fun, if laggy, multiplayer.
Yes it is fun to spray bullets and blame bad scoring on lag and mw2 does do this well. but there are other games that do it better. and i fail to see why so many people called it the best game ever when it first came out.
They didnt call it the best game ever they just said it was the best selling game ever. Lag is only on the pc and one in every 100 games on consoles.
"Lag is only on the PC, dudewat

pokemon games, cod 6, L4D2
I don't understand why people buy more than one pokemon game.

Every single one of them start you off in a town, your mom says to visit the neighbours, you go and the wife of professor {insert name} says that he's in his lab. You go down (because the lab is always behind your house) and an assistant says that professor {insert name} likes to do field work. You then go out to the exit/entrance of the city and find him being chased by a wild pokemon which you slaughter. You are then told you are amazing and given a free pokemon which you then immediately have to use to battle the son/daughter/nephew that hates you/feels that it is absolutely necessary.

From there you go to every city and beat every gym leader then have to fight six of them in a row in the championship nonsense and you win the game. Oh yeah I forgot *spoiler alert*

Call Of Duty its singleplayer is WAY too short to be any fun all of the people who I told this say "you arent supposed to play it for the single player but the multiplayer" as Yahtzee said "a game shouldnt have excuses to be a good game"

Modern Warfare 1. COD4 has been praised by everyone I know, and I can't find myself liking it at all.

Not only that, but the whole "realistic shooter" genre hasn't wowed me yet.

I don't like realism in games. I want a game to be as unrealistic, insane, crazy, and off-the-wall as it can get. Show me how nuts you can be, developers! I can take it!!!
Modern warfare wasn't anywhere close to what used to be considered realistic shooters. They go by the name Tactical Shooters. And good tactical shooters are actually very realistic.

Sounds like you want some Saints Row 2 action. I love that game so much. though from that statement I'm curious as to whether you liked GTA IV or not.
So I guess some word choice change is needed... I'm not a fan of tactical shooters.

As for GTA4 and SR2, never played either, though I've heard good and bad things about both. I like the GTA series to a point, but it tends to get very repetitive after a while. (It is still fun to grab a car, grab a gun, and mow down everything while trying to avoid tanks. 6 stars!)

I guess I could say that I don't like the GTA series as much as everyone else, despite the fact that I do enjoy the games, but I've never actually beaten one. I get to a certain point and just get bored with it.

Gears of War multiplayer is terrible. I don't know about second one but I remember playing a match in wyhich a teammate of mine sniped every single rushing member of the other team and ended the round in about 25 seconds. I never played that game online again.
