For some reason I can't sit well with the God of War games, I tried to like them but it just felt...soo...slow.

It's so bland and simple. It's like playing an outdated PC shooter like Serious Sam or Duke Nukem 3D but without the Humor, fun or originality.
They have a giant intergalactic conflict and they managed to make it bland and uninteresting. I think they deserve points for that.
The gameplay is bad, too. The guns feel like pea shooters and killing the covenant is as satisfying as watching paint dry.
Plus the guns' "pew pew pew" sound effects and bright colors make it look like some sort of childish fantasy that tries to be taken seriously.
I find the hatred towards Halo baffling, to be honest. I am certainly not a halo fanboy, but it is almost undoubtedly the most criticised game on the internets, for no discernible reason, perhaps bar MW2.

The graphics are good, it was an innovative game will innovative ideas. The plot was great in the first one, though they murderised it to oblivion in 2 and 3, as it simply was overly complex and redundant, and frankly...a bit boring. Halo:CE did have a fantastic story though, presented, and in extended universe form.
The multiplayer was fun, and got progressively better from CE to 3, with 3 being one of the most balanced multiplayer games around in my opinion, even if I don't play it. It's something MW2 and many FPS's can't claim, a good balance, where as Halo3 can. It's well designed, good interface, great soundtrack and sound effects, immersive, and it was the game that revolutionised multiplayer, in terms of a flawless matchmaking system.

Even if I am not the biggest fan of the Halo series, I can't deny the impact it had on the gaming world, and also how well made and presented the game is. Even if they forgot the "fun" factor in the single player and it all got a bit ridiculous, the series as a whole stands out as clearly a "good" series, surely under almost any criterion you can push upon it.

This is the first time I have ever defended the Halo franchise, so don't mistake me for a halo fanboy at all; I just have never seen a criticism of the game that justifies the utter bile, spite and hatred that I see everywhere towards it. I can only surmise it is a "fad" thing; Halo was popular at first, then people realised this and rebelled against it. Same system with MW, first was popular, then it went to far and made a sequel, and people hate it (though there are a lot of reasonable gripes with that game, so it's perhaps not a perfect analogy!)
You realise that this is a thread about peoples likes and dislikes, not what is good or bad. some one else not liking something does not indicate good or bad, merely that they don't like it.

Portal.

Just another physics tech demo with memes that are trying way too hard.
I wholeheartedly disagree with your statement.

The physics tech demo is pretty good with some clever, mind-bending puzzles and memorable situations. The memes came after the game when a wave of generic, neck-bearded geeks decided that "The cake is a lie" was the funniest thing since Monty Python and quoted it ad nauseum on everything and everywhere.

Maybe your dislike of Portal comes from your dislike of its fans. If I hadn't played the game before all of the memes came out I would have despised it too because I despise those fat, neck-bearded douchebags with raging passion.

It's average.
There have been a lot of games with a lot of ideas that haven't been copied as much as Halo's mechanics.
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter has good tactical gameplay and well paced missions but you don't see other shooters imitiating it. But every shooter must now have regenerating health or a space marine to function.
It gets really tiresome.

When i just had a ps3 my friends bragged about fable 1 and 2. I finally got a 360 and started playing popular xbox games and most met my expectations but then came fable. People talked about how immersive and large andfun this game was. This in my opinion is one of the worst RPGs ever designed. I loved lionhearts work in black and white but this game is pure trash. It holds no depth fighting is boring and my character has a quick ageing problem.

Thats the first fable however then on to fable 2 which i bought for $5 dolars. Allthough the story and general game is improved it is still bad. The games pretty easy it wasnt until halfway through the game that i died thats when i figured out that If you die there is no consquence other than a scar so why bother trying if youll always win.My character looks wierd for some reason no matter what clothes i give him he always looks wierd. Ai is broken One minute a girl loves me the next she is shooting me for robbing a house as part of a mission. Its just so easy to do anything except for money well until you reach the arena.

Point being is there a game you cant understand why is so popular?
(actualy play the game dont just hate)
Yeah. here some:
The GEARS OF WAR series.

The HALO series.

Final fantasy 7. It's good... but not that good.

I played the game at launch and finished it before most people even started latching onto the memes.

Even ignoring that, the game's still just a cute tech demo.

Halo and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
Halo is just kinda boring and repetitive, and it's not very fun in general. Even the multiplayer isn't very fun. I like sci fi games, but I don't think Halo deserves the worship it recieves.
The first Modern Warfare was fine, it wasn't amazing, but it could be fun at times. However, everyone says the multiplayer is the best part, but I don't enjoy the multiplayer much. Modern Warfare 2, as I've heard, has a pretty boring single player and amazing multiplayer. However, I hear the multiplayer is EXTREMELY unbalanced. I don't really enjoy it myself.

Bioshock, call of duty: modern warfare (mw2 is worse, but more hated so I'll abstain from hating it like no doubt most other people have) and especially left 4 dead (and by extension it's sequel).

As has been said, Bioshock had a good atmosphere and pretty graphics, but the guns were bland and largely pointless. The gameplay was, at absolute best mediocre, steampunk has to be good to work for me, so it's one of those games I found wasn't worth the effort.

Call of duty modern warfare felt like a slap in the face after the awesome that was CoD2. Ridiculously unbalanced perks, out of game levelling and relatively crap maps made this game stand out poor for me. I know I said I'd abstain from spouting hate at MW2, but my reasons for hating aren't limited to it being the PC game designed to set up subscription based FPSs, I also genuinely dislike the game mechanics as it's more of the same.

Left 4 dead was boring as hell, 4 player half life with more zombies and less combine...yawn. The gunplay was atrocious, especially given how good every other FPS game released in the past few years have been[footnote]other than bioshock, of course.[/footnote]. I'd much sooner play Killing floor or TF2 than left 4 dead.
I have played half-life and L4D HUNDREDS of times (literally) and I can't see the similarities. Obvious troll is obvious. BUt for me, I can't stand Modern Warfare 2, it's shaite. I don't see why there's so much hate on Halo though, I mean yeah, it's overrated. But people in this thread still haven't proved a good reason to not like the original trilogy.

Of course I do, I was simply trying to figure out where the hatred for Halo stems from; as several people in this thread have either said Halo sucks etc. or replied with "Halo doesn't work, because no one on the internet likes it anyway".

I have no problem with people not "getting" Halo, or whatever, I am infact, relating it to the thread, a person who doesn't "get" the hate for Halo, which is almost more popular than the game itself. I don't understand how the hate is so popular.

So you are saying Halo is a bad game, because it is copied in other games? That seems an unfair criticism. If, say, a film universally regarded as good, like Shawshank Redemption for instance, was copied to one degree or another in other films, you wouldn't blame Shawshank Redemption for it; more the mimic.
This just goes to prove my point, you know? The only criticisms of it, don't really make any sense.

Halo 3. I haven't played it online so perhaps I'm missing something from the playing experience.

I say this because I had played numerous FPS's on the PC. I can understand that Halo was/is revolutionary for consoles, but from my perspective I found it pretty boring (unless in co-op) and generic.

I'm not trolling, I'm just stating my opinion :)

I would probably have a much favourable viewpoint if I wasn't such an avid FPS player on the PC before playing.

Another game would be ME2. I like it, but I just can't stand playing it for too long. I could play the original for hours on end.

RDR, were is the fun (sing it like the black eyed peas, "were is the love")? It's a terrible and tedious game, I wanted to trade it back in after 3 hours.

Bioshock, yes the atmosphere was nice, but the gameplay was shit. Since when does atmosphere excuse horrible gameplay?
Silent Hill 2.
Moving on, definitely Portal on PS3. Probably the glitchiest game in the whole PS3 library; my friends did nothing but sing its' praise. It wasn't at all like the one I played at my best friends house; the one on the computer with steam. I am glad though that Gabe has decided to redeem himself, for handing that beautiful game to a bunch of half-assed porters. Portal 2 looks great though!

Ha, that's funny. ME2 is the only game I have full achievements on, I loved the first one, but the second was balls out awesome, and I could easily sit down and finish it again.

That's not such a bad idea, actually...

I'm not saying they're bad, but I don't understand why everybody loves the Valve Shooter, or most other first-person Shooter series for that matter. Sure, they're well designed, but they all run on the same tech and involve the same type of gameplay. If Team Fortress was one type of game, Left 4 Dead another, and Half-Life 2 was also unique, then I'd understand it, but as it stands, all these games involve doing basically the same thing.

People say you shouldn't shell-out cash for an updated sports game, and then go out and buy three first-person Shooters.

The whole call of duty series (except the first + UO). I just don't find them fun. Also I can't play WoW. I've leveled one or two lvl 70 characters in the past because it felt so nostalgic me being a big warcraft fan but the end gaming is just so boring. And it's grindy.
