Final Fantasy is definitely on the list, there are far better JRPGs out there.

I think most of the people enjoy the Final Fantasy games for the story rather than gameplay.
I'm probably wrong about the majority, but that's what I've noticed.
But here's the thing, Final Fantasy always has a badly written story with ludicrous characters, ridiculous plot twists, stupid plot, etc. .. I've yet to encounter a good story in a FF game, and I'm talking about 7+ because I haven't bothered with the first 6 since I didn't play them when they were launched and now they aren't worth it. Most ff games have stories with a lot of potential and then they just fuck it up along the way, 8 being a perfect example of that, and don't even get me started on the so called "masterpiece" that is supposed to be FF7.

Bioshock, it was greeted as the holy grail of the FPS genre but all it was is a watered down system shock clone, not a bad game.. but nothing special, it had some good atmosphere and nice graphics but the story was weak and the gameplay wasn't great either.

Any Pokemon game, I actually tried most of them just because I heard good things about them, and they were all BAD.

Mario, people are way to in love with the franchise, it is nothing special, it is good but it's too much of a "god" to gamers, nintendo fanboys are like the inquisition if you say something bad about it you're a heretic and should burn in the eternal fires of hell, it is also probably the most milked franchise in existence and yet no one complains about it, meanwhile people are complaining about most other games having 2 or 3 sequels saying that the producers are milking the franchise.

PORTAL. FOR THE LOVE OF ZEUS: PORTAL.

I've bought, played, beat, experienced and replayed the game. I could not care less for that damn companion cube. I didn't laugh once, and barely smiled at the who "there will be cake" thing. I don't hate the game...I just don't see why people adore it.

I find the Legend of Zelda series, IN GENERAL, not to be that great. I mean, they're cute, but why the hell do they have sucha huge fanbase?

I'll prolly be attacked for this, but also Bioshock and Shadow of the Collusus. Shadow of the Collosus was just flat out dull. Nothin' goin' there for me. Bioshock's gameplay was just to sheeyit for me to enojoy the alright story.

Why do people keep making this fucking thread?

Hating popular games doesn't make you look cool. It makes you look like you have an opinion. Not only that, but because of the poor wording of the OP's title, it makes you look a little foolish.

Really? "You can't understand how its so popular?" If the title were "popular games you don't like" I'd be singing a different tune, but that is just very poor phrasing on the OP's part.

OT: None. I can understand why EVERY game has it's fans. Obviously they find something fun about playing it.

Why does everyone say Halo? No one likes it on the internet.
I do :)

But it certainly isn't the BEST game out there. I enjoyed the story (I mean the WHOLE story, not just what you get in the games.) and it was an excellent commentary on what humanity will do to ensure its survival. (Seriously, it was messed up kidnapping, militarizing, and then mutating-- and some times horribly disfiguring and killing-- those children.)

I don't understand the FF games, or Dead Rising. FF reminded me of Pokemon without the captures, and Dead Rising was fun for about half an hour. Then I had to fight the Latino guy. God how I hate the Latino guy.

I don't like realism in games. I want a game to be as unrealistic, insane, crazy, and off-the-wall as it can get. Show me how nuts you can be, developers! I can take it!!!
That's exactly why I love Saints Row 2 so much.
It's ridiculous and silly, but set enough in reality for the immersion to really kick in, though that doesn't stop Volition from sticking as much silliness as they can in.

Also, repeat thread is repeated far too much.

OT: I'd have to admit I fall in with the Halo/CoD disliking people, but I'd also go with Mass Effect: It was just so phenomenally boring for the half hour I played it that I couldn't go on.

Oh yeah, i'm gonna have to add ffx to that list. That game was a horrible emo romance. Sure, the story telling was great, but the grind was pure stupidity, and there are a lot more lovable characters (that don't have big boobs or other sexpot traits)than yuna. In fact, yuna reminds me of chun-li. From her SF movie, not the game. If you saw it,(my condolences btw)you know what i'm talking about. OT: ff13 wasn't half bad, as I thought it would be all girly like ten was. The blue haired dude almost killed the game for me in the begining, but after sticking with it, and only having to deal with little miss sunshine and captain /wrist, it was kinda great.

For me its Half-Life 2.

I played enjoyed the game but I never understand why people praise the game so damn much.

It was great but not 'the best ever'.
took too long to do anything
how can there be an immersive story when only one thing gets done a GAME?
you spend HL 2 escaping a city then going back, episode 1 escaping again, and episode 2 going back... AGAIN!
the only amazing part i found was that the girl wears appropriate clothing

Half life 2 and episodes were fun for me, but nothing to write home about
I've only played Halo 2/3 a few times at friends houses but from what i've seen its pretty boring
Played guitar hero/rock band and it just seems pointless to me, might as well play a real instrument(games are for things you can't do, even if there are realistic flight sims you cant just jump in a aeroplane whenever you want)

Fable is a series that is meant for people who missed out on RPGs up until now. It's not very good but it does fill a hole where history where many lost out to the whole whimsical old RPGs.

Three worlds. Modern. Warfare. Two. Urrrrrgggggggg....... why? why? [HEADING=3]WHY?![/HEADING] [HEADING=1] KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!- i mean -WHYYYYY!!??!1!!ONE![/HEADING]

Every time i have talked to anyone over the past year about games it's modern warfare 2 talk. i have no words for the depth of loathing i have for the game.
i liked MW2, i thought it was still fairly in depth, and the versus was good, just spoiled by 12 year olds the world over
and the fact that at school, its guarenteed that if you walk through a corridor at lunch time, you will hear the word "streak" with "nuke" thrown in somewhere. i can see why that annoys you
the story wasnt as good as mw, but still beats most FPSs.
and it is NOT i repeat NOT bland
bland is like "compelling" is for gamestop reviews, so the user can feel smart
same with halo. why is it cool to hate halo? it is innovative, interesting and good to play. its just cool in the escapist to hate it. you know, this is the one thing that puts me off this place a bit. it is SOOOOOOOOOOO elitist. still, beats IGN.

can you specify the zelda games?
i mean, OoT and link to the past i found to be great, but the cartoony ones i found to be too patronising
"ooh youve found a bomb, now maybe you can blow open CRACKS IN THE WALL OH LOOK A CRACK IN THE WALL HOW INTERESTING"
i enjyed SotC when i could play it, but i could never find the enemies!

We're not elitist, we just like better games than you : ) (it's called irony)

In all seriousness if you play a LOT of FPS games (and a play a LOT of FPS games) Modern Warfare 2 seems very bland. Infact the word is derivative, both of it's predecessor and of games at large. It really does nothing unique or uniquly well to deserve my attention. A game like say "The Darkness" is pretty standard but it's few touches (Fucking deamon arms!) make it stand above many of it's peers.

Games like the original CoD4;MW do pulp run and gun warfare action extreamly well and boil it down into a fun and acessable package.

Mw2 takes a step back from Mw in nearly all aspects whilst having some major miss-steps like the fequent "Oh bullshit!" errors in the online like clipping and damage spounging whilst having pretty terrible wildly varying difficulty curve on singleplayer.

It's not just being "Oh la-de-dar i hate on a popular game are't i spiffing!" it's actually serious problems with the game that many people see and get VERY angry about becuase they just get glossed over in reveiws and publications whilst arguably better games get targeted for smaller flaws.
i suppose that all mw2 is, is the base gameplay elements of a fps, which it does extremely well, but adds nothing to the genre as a whole
i went through this phase before i ran out of money, of playing "interesting" fps's
bioshock, the darkness (turn off the lights and look in a mirror. freaky), stalker, and cryostasis (check it out if you have a decent pc, and yes, mentally comparing them to mw2 is like comparing a "the works" pizza with a plain mozzerella. maybe the plain is what you want, and its a very good pizza/game, but adding a spark, even if its just the gimmick (see:darkness, cryostasis) it adds depth
so i guess youre right. also about reviews, there was a thread on this a while back. mainstream games like GOW (god and gears) will NEVER be reviewed negetively, as they have already been reviewed by what the public wants to be told. but metro 2033 (bit light on the cheesy core pizza i mean gameplay, but added some nice pepperoni) got heavily bad/average reviews for enemy health and bullet strength
elitist basta

Thats funny, cause those are some of my favorite games. No disrespect though, i respect your opinion. I do hate modern warfare 2, that just ruined everything with that.
Well, I'm glad to find someone that doesn't call me an idiot for having an opinion.

OT: I forgot to mention Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid in my original post.
