If it was down $20 at some point, it isn't anymore. It's back up to $60 (CAD; $40 USD). The official strategy guide is $20 though...

You heard me right, Portal 2, a game that's been out for 11 days, is already on sale for $20 off (all platforms) at Gamestop.

Source here [http://www.gamestop.com/browse?nav=16k-portal+2].

Now...I don't know how to feel about this. On the one hand, I think Portal 2 was worth every penny of the $45 I spent on it (pre-order discount), but I'm FURIOUS that I am indirectly being, for lack of a better word, punished for buying the game on Day 1. I'm perfectly okay with sales like this a couple months down the line, but $20 off when not even two weeks have passed? Sorry Valve (or Gamestop, whoever authorized it), but that's a bit of a dick move.

On the bright side, those of you who haven't picked this brilliant game up...you have no excuse anymore.
A: this is gamestops doing

B: really? 5$ difference? and your that mad?

C: I bought mine on steam, so it was even cheaper than that. lol
It's a $20 difference, not a $5 difference. I'm just frustrated about the situation.
Nope, still 5$, 45$-5 is 40, which is the current price they are selling it for, I don't know how you could mix up 20$ with 5$ but ok

Actually, my price point for games that have only recommendations and no demo is $20. So I'm gonna keep waiting.
Play Portal 2. If you liked portal 1, You'll LOVE portal 2.
And it's cheap now, and no Valve game has ever sucked balls. At worst, you'll find it mediocre, but tolerable for 20$.
What? I despised Left 4 Dead, and found its sequel only marginally better.

On consoles, the game is $60. On PC, the game is $50.
Now on sale, the game is $40 on console and $30 on PC.

That's where I got the $20 from.

Honestly, no matter how good portal 2 is, I feel that 60$ was still to high for a game with essentially only 1 game mode.

Think about it, you only have 1 game mode that you can play inpdentdtly, it's not a sandbox or free roam which allows you to play as you please.

The only multiplzayer requires you to know to somone else, you can't just join a game.

One of the reasons why halo, call of duty, etc, and sandbox games are popular is because the extend the play time, in games with single player and multiplayer, the replay value it high, and with sandboxes you can just mess around.

Games that only have a linear mode have much less content, even if that content is amazing, it's still only 5 hours of pure awesome instead of hundreds of hours of great.

That said, I still have yet to pick up Portal 2, so....

No, you're missing my point, the point was YOU didn't pay 60$ for the game.

The guy paid $45, now the game is selling for $30, that is still a $15 difference than what the guy paid for, not the $5 difference you claim. So how is he missing the point a $15-20 difference is still a chunk of money.

You'd have to pay me $40 to set foot in a Gamestop, and the $40 I paid for the steam version (I split the two pack with a friend) is reasonable.

So I'm not worked up about this.

Does GameStop ship internationally? And if they do,what is the shipping price for Europe?
I would be really cautious with buying Portal 2 from the states, it has insanely bad region locking. I bought a copy in Europe and when I came home to the states for Easter Break, I entered my code, tried to install, whoops you can only play this game in the region you bought it in.
I've been fighting valve damn near 2 weeks to get this fixed and I've pretty much gotten no where
1) Because their response time is usually 2 days and
2)(From my experience) don't even read your complaint, they just copy and paste from their FAQ.

And if you get a copy form a different region and get stuck in my situation good luck ever getting a playable portal 2 copy on your account. I've been asking them for days to remove my region locked copy from my account, my question/complaint submitted to them says "I have a region locked copy of Portal 2 on my account, please remove it so I can buy a copy in which the region my gaming computer is in"
Response: You must buy a copy of Portal 2 in your current region.
Me: Yes I know that, but I can't buy a copy of the game when the region locked one is still on my account.
Response: You must buy a copy of Portal 2 in your current region.

I've seriously had it up to hear with the absolutely terrible support system they have.
/rant end.

Just and FYI.

I called my local Gamestop, and they did say that Portal 2 is on sale this weekend only for $30. The sale ends at closing time tomorrow, and it's not for digital download. Methinks I might have to take advantage of this opportunity.

It's only a two day sale, not a permanent price reduction. I have no problems with this whatsoever.

Portal 2 isn't worth 40$ or even 25$. It's worth 5 or 8$ because thats how much it costs to rent it. Rent it when a friend is over, beat it in 8 hours over the course of 5 days (singleplayer and co-op combined) and return it. Great game, 0 replay value, 5 bucks.

Good thing I got it pirated and didn't pay a dime ^o^
Uh may I ask why? I mean I can kinda understand some games but Portal 2?

Pirating a game when people clearly put their heart and sole into is about the worst thing you can do. Its downright insulting to the developer even if your poor a game like Portal 2 is not worthy of piracy under any circumstances. Now go make a steam account and buy Portal 2 like you should have done in the first place.

People have been blaming the outcry over the DLC as leading to a "metabombing" of Portal 2's ratings. As I've said before, I think the game was simply not being that well received by users to begin with, and people were just latching onto the people screaming about the DLC (and argueing about DLC is what all the dicussions about the subject have generally come down to when I've been involved).

We'll see what happens, but I'm not going to be shocked if the game is down to $20 or less by this time next year.
Last I looked, Portal 2's user Metacritic score is 8.3 on the PC version. Those idiotic zero-bombings didn't have much effect.

Gamestop is shooting themselves in the foot here. Lowering the price that drastically that soon after release may SEEM like a smooth move, but what of the people who preordered from them? They'll be less likely to do so next time, expecting the company to pull a similar move down the line on the next highly-anticipated game.

And retailers LOVE preorders.

Mmh, why did you despise it? I couldn't find a flaw in the gameplay, nor in the characters. Ofc, the story is not really good, because there really is not much of a story but the background is getting better and better. I thought it was/is a fine Zombiegame, with an high focus on sticking togheter.

Really, if you have any amount of patience whatsoever, you'll always wait for a massive STEAM sale that is usually centered around a holiday (July 4th is coming soon, guess what that means!)
