Looks kinda like the Halo version of the Death Star, lol =P But that would/could be kinda cool though.. Also, by marathon do you mean the Bungie series, Marathon? Because that would be a cool little tribute.
Anyways, for it to tie into the existing Halo Universe at all, it would HAVE to do with the Forerunners in some way, as well as introducing an entirely new enemy to face. Sure, there may be a few renegade covenant groups remaining, but the covenant as a whole is effectively a non-threat by this point. So we shall see! I really, really, really want to like the new trilogy, but there's a part of me that's deathly afraid it's just a cash-in. i REALLY hope it's good.
