Well they already have 1 with various other races and the sea/fresh water thing could be dealt with by using different apparatus for the creatures.
It being a playable race was the key thing, and I doubt they'll ever spontaneously "promote" one of the minor races considering how they fit into the grander framework of the game. And c'mon, tell me a deep sea themed player race wouldn't be fun. Take a look at a picture of *any* bio-luminescent fish and imagine how cool it would look anthropomorphized.
Well while they have no plans as of yet you never know what they'll bring out with expansions and especially with races like the Tengu which have a fair bit of lore behind them.

What you've said makes me curious: can you think of any game that has playable bird-people? I can't. (Not counting turians.) I'm genuinely asking.

I've seen plenty of enemy bird-people races, but I've also seen plenty of enemy merfolk (as well as some playable merfolk in Perfect World).

I really like the idea of playable bird people, where the males are more colorful than the females. It's an interesting kind of sexual dimorphism that people don't usually use in games, and ArenaNet has already shown that they enjoy playing around with sexual dimorphism. Plus, the tengu just look awesome in GW2. I wouldn't mind playing one.
To the first: no, I'm drawing a blank. I'm not thinking too hard on the topic, but no, I can't name one.

To the second: fair point. But considering merfolk are anthropomorphized... well anything aquatic really, there's alot of room for variation.

And to the third: I'll concede the point that the idea of peacock-men sounds pretty fun. In a campy, silly sorta way. (And yes, I know there are alot of birds with ostentatious looking males and drab looking females, but that's the most iconic one.)
How about some less ostentatious male birds, such as finches, sparrows, turkeys, ducks, hawks, falcons, titmice, boobies, and cardinals.

Nobody wants to see that many Howard the/Scrooge Mc/Daffy Duck references is one place.

I think it's inevitable that Cantha and Elona are released, likely as much the same way as GW1, if for no other reason than fans would throw a hissy fit if those continents were ignored for long.

Other playable races are probably going to be released with all it's emphasis on style rather than stats content... maybe they will be purchasable rather than as part of an expansion pack (or whatever massive update they release if they're not doing paid expansion packs,) I would personally hate that but it sure would be profitable.

They have set the mechanics up so as to ensure ease of added class content without imbalancing the game. Each weapon has all of it's skills preset without any customisation, and considering they did a bloody good job keeping a fairly well balanced game in GW1 in lieu of having hundreds and hundreds of interchangeable skills for each class, it's not entirely unforeseeable that they would add new classes or new weapons to the game.

I'm not exactly well informed about this so I am wondering how long the dragons are going to be a part of the game; will they be killed off before expansion packs, or at least before Cantha and Elona are released, or will they be kept as big bads for as long as possible throughout the games life?

He has an opinion different from me he MUST be trolling.

I mean seriously? People have opinions that attack your all precious GW2. Get over it.
I think that homosexuals are the spawn of the devil, that they should all die a slow painful death and that when they do they shall burn in hell forever, but because that is my opinion*, however ill informed it might be, anyone who opposes it strongly has no right to say so. They should just get over it.

You ARE trolling; you stated an opinion which is fair enough, but when people attempted to dissuade your argument you continuously repeated your opinion without much discussion, that is inflammatory action. You are trolling.

*it's not

Also on the subject of "GW2 is just GW1 with races", lol I see right through your sad attempt at trolling and I won't bite, sorry. Anyone who knows a thing about both games knows that's not true, so all you've really done is further solidify how ridiculous your opinion truly is.
Unfortunately, you did bite. Hook, line, and sinker.

When will people learn that ignoring a troll takes no effort and is always more satisfying...

Jesus christ, I have an opinion, it doesn't make me a troll.
Grow up!

At any rate yes I worded it wrong, let me rephrase.
If it does well commercially, why should I give a fuck? Its still a step sideways.

I think people find it hard to take you seriously when what you're saying is provably wrong.

World
Guild Wars 1 - World is instanced
Guild Wars 2 - World is persistent

Quests
Guild Wars 1 - NPCs with ! above their heads, use of quest hubs
Guild Wars 2 - Dynamic events that just happen, no quest hubs

Story
Guild Wars 1 - Everyone played the same story
Guild Wars 2 - Everyone's story is different based on various choices you make throughout the game.

Just to name a few diffrences

^This^

Shall I reiterate the differences it's made? You say you played it 5 minutes at a convention. Others have played it a whole weekend at their leisure.

Except it isn't. Guild Wars isn't the next big thing, its another MMO with a few interesting hooks that will lose novelty very quickly and reach a niche audience.

Examples include...
Star Trek Online and its space combat/customization
City of Heroes/Champions online and its super hero thing
Dungeons and Dragons Online and its challenging stuff
The Old Republic and its story driven questing.
etc etc

Guild Wars carries a significant overhaul of the entire PvE, PvP, Questing, Loot, Exploration, and Player interaction in MMOs - the very pillars of what define the Genre, not some mere gimmicks.

God that gif is exactly what you're doing right now isn't it, fussing and having a tantrum because nobody agrees with your completely misinformed unfounded claims and your attempts to start a big flame war on a Guild Wars 2 thread, instead it's just you looking like a complete fool. I lol at every post you make because I can just see you digging yourself deeper :)

On Topic guys I would love to see Tengu as a playable race for a Canthan expansion, also for Elonian I would like to see Centaur but the only problem I have with that is wouldn't they be really awkward with underwater combat? I mean Horses aren't very strong swimmers are they? I've always wanted to see a centaur race in a RPG though.

I'm sorry, but no it doesn't.
PvE has like 2 tweaks which, while cool, aren't exactly huge.
PvP is still PvP, nothing new.
The new questing system, while cool, is still grinding.
Exploration is still exploration.
And social is still social.

Again, nice tweaks, nothing groundbreaking, thus a step sideways.

As I recall Anet specifically said one of the main reasons they WONT do centaur as a playable race is because swimming looks so stupid

Except

-There is no grind.

-Large scale 3 way PVP hasn't been done in a big MMO before, it's been tried in smaller MMOs, but not in a big one. Furthermore the rewards system that PVP holding give to the PVE players is also something that hasn't been tired in a large MMO before.

Not so much a "Step sideways" as "Funk Marching" - yeah, they move their feet sideways, but the direction it hauls itself in is forward.

No, I couldn't do that, I'd re break my knee.

No, I'm pissed because everyone in this thread seems to think that because my opinion is different I am either
A: A troll
B: Missing the glory that this game supposedly holds despite the fact that its still a damned step sideways.
C: Living in Arkham Asylum somewhere.

Hell, I did what a I normally do, post my opinion on a thread, leave. Everyone else freaked out, and before now I couldn't be bothered to give a fuck what fanboys thought of my opinion but my willpower gave in and I'm finally responding to these guys.

Yes, there is, making the grind a little bit different with that new questing system that adds up stuff or whatever is still grind, its just been made a tad bit less terrible. Like mixing vodka with anything.

Jesus your right 3 way PvP hasn't been done bef...

Oh umm...

Well I...

Nevermind then.
