Haha, so you think the Iraq war is protecting your liberty?
I didn't say that, but to say that War is a pointless endeavor is insane in itself. (At this point who knows what the Iraq war has changed. Maybe it prevented some evil that could have been done in the future, but was prevented. In the short run, probably it changed nothing. In the long run...who knows. It might have saved us all.)

World War II for example. We Americans did not start it, but we sure as hell finished it. In fact, we came in late in the war BECAUSE we didn't want to get involved, but soon our freedom...or boys were attacked in Pearl Harbor. WE were attacked and so we defended. We defended our freedom then. Our founding fathers ALSO defended our freedom back then.

We took down Saddam Hussein...a mean tyrant who killed his own people...but I guess that means nothing to you. I supposed you think Hitler was a good guy too.

If no-one fought, then Hitler wouldn't be a threat because he wouldn't have invaded or caused the death of anyone.
I said "no-one fights" I didn't say "no conflict." Hitler took over several countries without even firing a shot....does that sound like fighting? See, if you give up so easily, then you don't fight and someone will take over you because you are so willing. If you detest in anyway whether through words or action then you are "fighting back."

Everyone your saying, while having shades of truth does not contradict my point, despite the strawmans efforts. While it is true humanity often has to fight for freedom; that doesent mean these people should get a Nobel piece prize.
I see so everything is true, but then again everything is false. I am going to keep this simple.

See I want you to take a look at a comic book hero...now a true hero would not raise his fist or provide any conflict in essence to being completely good. You see Superman punch somebody every now and then. You see Batman throw baterangs at criminals....why? To stop bad people.

Bad people do NOT care about your words or your contracts. They do what they want, when they want no matter what you think. They have no care for your ideas or emotions. If you provide them no resistance, then they assume that they can do what they want and even possibly kill others for their own personal pleasure. That is not a fight my friend. I do not know why people cannot understand this idea. Pure evil cannot be reasoned with. You can try, but you will fail miserably.

If I came to your house right now and said "Hey I am taking your stuff and money" what would you do? Are you just going to sit there and say "That's fine, I don't believe in conflict anyway so yeah just take all my stuff." Yeah I doubt you would do that.

Just because someone chooses not to fight, DOESN'T mean they deserve the Nobel Peace Prize either. Some are even just stupid for not doing anything at all and because of that has caused many innocent people to lose their lives.

Heroes are ones who fight to save and those are the people who deserve the Peace Prize.

Put forward your candidate please. (I don't think Obama should have it but I imagine the board knows better than me)
My candidate? Hmmm...I say...you know what, I would have to say Micheal Jackson. His music brought a lot of people together and he has inspired so many others to do the same.

See, to me, the peace prize is given to people who do something that inspires the world to do the same. I know what you are going to say so stop right there. No Bush does not deserve the prize either. I just said that if you are going to give our Prizes so willingly then why not give it to people who have actually done something instead of just spouting fake promises.

I don't know who truly deserves the prize, but then again I DO know those who don't.

I am done here. I am tired and I am going to bed. So goodnight everyone.

"Do not go gentle into that goodnight."

These days, any Nobel prize is a joke unless its in a science or mathematical category.
Off topic, but there is no Nobel Prize in mathematics. Closest thing is the Fields Medal.

I kinda get the feeling he got this award because it draws attention to the Nobel Prize winners as a whole. They have kinda lost their prestige lately and this should get people talking about the again, if only for a little while.

Then again, he's making positive noises and if his talks and proposals go through then he would thoroughly deserve his prestigious award.

I agree. While I don't personally like his music, many do. Sheesh, almost anyone would be a better candidate than Obama. They gave it to him for what he is TRYING to achieve. Where I come from, that's an honorary mention, not the damn blue ribbon!

Its just one massive PR job to try and save face when he can save the country from descending into chaos. Honestly, no president could ever affect the country, let alone Obama. Presidents don't have power, they're in office to draw attention away from it. He's got a good pr department though...
No, it's a genuine thing.

Obama has done a lot. His speech in Cairo encouraging understanding between cultures. His call for the disarming of nuclear weapons globally. It's not a matter of "Let's make him look good" because that's not the task of the Nobel committee. They're there to acknowledge concerted efforts.

Thats a good question, but I think your answer is not as good. Not for your choice, but because only the living can receve a Nobel Prize. A shame, not a bad choice after all.

Mugabe was also in the front-running to get this prize, so that says it all really.
Bollocks, frankly.

It is policy of the Nobel Prize Committee to not release the names of contenders for a Nobel Prize. Furthermore, the Nobel Prize Committee does not accept external nominations from anyone, so when you see someone called "Nobel Prize nominated", you know that they are bullshitting.

* * *

It's nice to see the US right wingers blowing a huge gasket over this as usual. It's a sad and embarrassing display of partisan bile and vitriol.

It goes to a president they don't like, and it's the usual smears, rage and vindictiveness that characterises US politics. Let's face it, if it had gone to a neutral American, those same people would all be sitting here saying how it reflects on how great the USA is.

Most people stopped giving a shit about it about a decade ago. I mean seriously, Al Gore won a Nobel prize. Yeah...
Yeah, because Al Gore has never tried to accomplish anything, spread misinformation without statistics, has never held a seat in the White House, and has encouraged destroying the environment while burning away all resources. What a horrible guy.

The only peaceful thing he's been doing is cleaning up other people's messes for them and giving every other country he visits the thumbs-up to democracy.

Honestly, give it to someone who deserves it.

Offically he gets it for his work on disarmament. I think that's premature since he is yet to do much on it. He has taken the right steps (better relations with Russia, disarmament talks with NK and Iran) but results are yet to be seen. Why he gets a prize for it is a slight mystery to me.

He's been leading the fight against nuclear weapons and considering this involves getting rid of his own countries armaments, the largest stockpile in the world, this is a pretty big step for world peace.
I'm sorry but I just had to point this out. Actually, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council's 2009 estimate, Russia has almost twice as many active missiles as the united states.

Well, he is a visible figure and is doing alright, but nobel peace prize? Okay, he ordered to pull out of Iraq.
When compared to last year's winner, Martti Ahtisaari, who has negotiated about 20 wars to an end and set up more treaties than anyone, even a couple of countries to independance, Obama isn't that "pro-peace". He did promise to get more troops to Afganistan.

I know ill sound like racist dick but it honestly looks like he got it for 2 reasons:
- He said nukes are bad.
- He's a black USA president...

I'm sorry but not being much into American political situation I cant really find any other reason.
