I'm sorry, you must be confused. We had an election in 2008 and installed a new President in 2009.tipp6353 said:u mean fucking up our country even more and putting the U.S in even more debt
Yeah I agree with you, except I think they should get out Afghanistan too, after they've stabilized the place. Nobel prizes are important things, so i'm not sure if he's deserved it either.McClaud said:About 70% of the Yanks are waiting for the troops to come home or go to Afghanistan, where we should have been in the first place. So you Europeans aren't alone in that endeavor.TacticalAssassin1 said:Well I'm just waiting for all those yanks to GTFO of Iraq...
The hardest part for Obama to remove troops from Iraq is that the entrenched Republicans then go on a retarded honking spree that drowns out addressing more important things in Congress.
On the same note, the morons who keep saying that we or Obama's PR people are responsible for Obama's Nobel Peace Prize should probably look at who actually awards these things. It's a Norwegian panel that includes a few European representatives. Obama even said he's kinda confused as to why they awarded it to him.
I also don't think he deserves it yet either, but I'm sorta loving it that it's pissing off the Republicans and the right in this country. It proves that it doesn't take much reversal of the wrongheaded direction the previous administration had for diplomacy to make someone seem more impressive than they really are.
Because I don't think that shooting up Iraq is the best way to go about entertaining the troops, that's why. Ok, my serious answer is that they don't need to be there and all the Iraqis don't want them there so they should just go home and eat some apple pie or something.JimmerDunda said:Why should you give a shit?TacticalAssassin1 said:Well I'm just waiting for all those yanks to GTFO of Iraq...
Yeah, it has something to do with nuclear weapons removal (that's the gist of the information I've gathered). I can't disagree if it has to do with getting rid of those things.Superbeast said:Maybe for getting an agreement to cut the number of nuclear weapons?
In terms of global peace that's quite a big one, especially since G.W.Bush's pushing for the "missile defence system" in Poland was escalating Russia to begin practising nuclear launches...
If it's not for that then I dunno why he's been given it, but then I haven't really been up-to-date with what he's been doing lately (firstly I'm in Britain and secondly at uni with no TV so haven't been watching the nightly BBC news).
Seriously??? You're comparing Obama to Mother Teresa? That made me smile. That's hilarious. I'll spell out the differences and what makes Obama LESS deserving of it than Mother Teresa.Danny Ocean said:Mother Teresa- She opened a few convents (Which she then, admirably, worked in.) and spread the idea of, "Hey, let's try being nice for a change.". Obama's spreading the same idea, and more to the same tune, what makes him less deserving?

Honestly, no president could ever affect the country, let alone Obama. Presidents don't have power, they're in office to draw attention away from it. He's got a good pr department though...
Yea he won for Enviromentalism, for bringing notice to Global Warming....um they have been talking abotu it for decades now so fail.deadman91 said:Haven't they already had the prizes this year? Didn't Al Gore win?
There's something screwy here going on here...
Its been less than a year. He clearly isnt the best in ages or we wouldnt be in a recession. I dont like Obama much, but honestly not many people were happy he won. He honestly didnt deserve it. He has ideas and has a good heart, but he hasnt proven it yet.Altorin said:Honestly, I have no idea.. seems like a great guy.. probably the best president in ages... but.. that's a thinker.ZeeClone said:Direct Link [http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8298580.stm]
US President Barack Obama has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize, selected from a field of 205 nominees.
Now, forgive my ignorance and I'm hoping not to get flamed for this. But what for?
I don't know nearly enough of his political or diplomatic history to comment and I know they don't give out Nobel Prizes for collecting enough cereal box tops.
no that was Gorbachev (spelt wrong i think). and he did get ithumpingmonkey said:What happened to Ronald Reagans peace prize? He did end communism.
His cabinet has even less power than he does. They're just advisors. So what was your point again?Zeeky_Santos said:Conspiracy theorist much?grimsprice said:Presidents don't have power,
Think about it, the president may not have all the decision making power, his cabinet has to agree with him. But who gets to pick the Cabinet? The president, thats who.
