From a technical point of view ps3 is better, but XBL is more active; though it apparently has more people screaming into headsets.IMHO ps3 has the better exclusives (uncharted, god of war, ratchet and clank, hd remakes etc), the only 360 exclusives i ever hear about are gears of war and halo.

360 has more people using hacks in online games like cod, but that's likely to happen with a more active community. 360s also have a higher failure rate than ps3's.I recommend you look at the exclusives and both consoles and decide from there. Multi-platform games have very little difference between them and run better on the system they were developed for before port. These are usually developed for 360 first though.

Other than exclusives i recommend you get the console that most of your friends have as online play is always more fun with friends.

Good day to you all. I have been saving money for a time and now i would like to use it on a new console, (i only have a Wii) but i don't really know what console i should buy. PS3 has good hardware, (that's what my buddies told me) but i really, REALLY like the Halo Series.(not that i think that you are stupid, but here's a link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo_(series) link end) and i also know that most of the games are released for PS3 AND 360, (and soon, ((probably)) for Wii U, too) like Crysis 2, but is there a diffrence? I know that the PS network is free, and that XBLA costs, but is XBLA safer? PLEASE, share your thoughts and personal experience!
.

Well xbox is yet to be hacked XD
But yer if you enjoy halo then you will love xbox to death.
also kinect is a worthwhile experience.

PS3 is better if you looking for a media center but im not keen on their first party titles at all. for me most their exclusives are like Michael Bay films (lots of explosions)
Whereas Xboxs are slow thoughtful and artistic? Most games these days are like michael bay films, because michael bay films sell
I never claimed they were? its just xbox games tend to have something called gameplay which tends to take the back seat in games like uncharted kill zone and resistance.

Paying for Xbox live. Why pay for internet you already pay for? I wouldn't buy an Xbox 360. I would get a PS3 even with the PSN thing. Thats over I doubt they will make that mistake twice.

I only have a PC.

If you like the Halo series that much, then your question should be answered. Plus, with more Halo goodness coming, and Reach still being fun to play, you will be quite happy with a 360. Also, if you like Halo, then you HAVE to check out the Gears of War series. It is quite frakking awesome, if I may say so! Allow me to add two other suggestions... if you DO get a 360, be sure to purchase Alan Wake when you have a chance. Its a phenomenal game that flew under the radar for alot of people, and it shouldnt be missed. Second, get the newest 360, the slim. Its very quiet, has built in wireless, and has a 250G hard drive. Its also Kinect ready, should you choose to pick that up as well.

Why pay for World of Warcraft? Why pay for EverQuest? Why pay for Star Wars Galaxies? Etc. etc. You are paying for a very good service. So, you are saying you wouldnt buy a 360. Why, because you have to pay $60 a YEAR for the gold online service? Thats your only reason? This argument is really getting old.

What if you hate those types of game already? Suddenly, your argument starts falling apart.
Also, How is it a very good service?
I don't pay for steam and it is better than Xbox Live.

speaking objectively, I can say that the ps3's hardware is superior.
speaking subjectively, the exclusives are better, I think, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, God of War to name a few. The software is nicer, cleaner and easier, and the network is free and doesn't require you to buy a wireless adaptor to connect to wireless. the overall look the machine is sleeker, and less garish, it's also more ergonomic. IMO if you want a cleaner experience and are willing to forgive Sony for the PSN outage, go for the ps3.
The wireless is built in on the new 360 slim. I also fail to understand the part about the sleeker, less garish, and more ergonomic comment when compared to the 360 slim. Also, please define "cleaner" experience. How are my 360 experiences any less clean than your ps3 experiences? Even after losing the exclusives we had such as Mass Effect (the PS3 still doesnt get the same experience with it, because they cant get the first one), the Halo series and the Gears of War series are HUGE titles. COD fans get their map packs first on the 360. Also, Alan Wake is an exclusive I would recommend to anyone with a 360 as a must have.

Well mass effect 2 is ported over to the ps3 and that was my reason for buying a 360 so yeah, get a ps3 unless halo is your favourite game ever

Its a dead horse that continues to get walloped upon. If you dont want to pay, get a silver account. Granted, it pales compared to the gold, but XBL gold service is still the top online service between the two consoles. I have friends that have both, and still say its better. Yes, you do have to pay for it, but are you really going to haggle over $60 a year? If you do, how the heck do you afford to buy games anyway? I'm not saying PSN is a bad service, or anything like that... its just not as good as XBL.

My favourite game is an Xbox exclusive (Deadly premonition) but I own a PS3. I love the exclusives for it and the type of exclusives available on the PS3 are more to my liking when compared to the Xbox exclusives. I would suggest that you do what a lot of people have been recommending which is to compare the exclusives of each console and see which ones appeal to you more. It would also help to see what type of consoles your friends have which means that you can all play online together.

I'm also nuts for achievements! 360 has got most of those, right? but one question about that: what do you get for the points? example:
Acheivement unlocked
Penta Kill!
25 P.
what does the P stand for? what does it do?
ps3 also has achivements in the form of trophys

The difference between the 2 is negligible, and asking a question such as this is pointless at best and flamebait at worst
Someones talking sense seriously just get the one you think you will enjoy most but I wouldnt enter youre card details on either due to it being damn near impossible to cancel youre subscription on 360 until the card expires and of course hacks on PS3. Still youre choice.

The exclusives can be deceptive - you can't compare Halo to Killzone for instance, because only an idiot would say that Killzone is better than Halo.
So, what you're saying is that only an idiot would have a different opinion than you?

OT: Controllers aren't something you really should look at, because neither consoles have BAD controllers. Actually, they're both quite good, and the downsides to those controllers are things you will get over.

The only deciding factor that there should be when it comes to deciding between two very similar consoles - as many others in this thread say - are the exclusives. Now, from my perspective it looks as though that nowadays Sony is releasing FAR more exclusives than Microsoft (Infamous 2, Heavy Rain, God of War 3, Uncharted 3 came from the last two years alone, and those are only the off-the-top-of-my-head big name titles). But the other side of this is, back when Sony was attempting to sell their beast of a console, the Xbox was taking all competition and had a slew of great exclusives (Saints Row, Crackdown - And while Burnout Revenge wasn't exclusive on the Xbox360, it was the only next-gen version of that game released). So when you factor that in, the two consoles have around the same number of exclusives. The difference is, the PS3 exclusives are more modern, while several Xbox exclusives can be bought for the price of one PS3 exclusive.

Sorry to go a bit off topic, but how is Deadly Premonition? I have rented it from Gamefly, but I havent had a chance to try it out yet.

Back to the main topic, I agree. You should compare exclusives and see which you like better. Again, seeing your mention of Halo being a favorite, and with Halo Anniversary coming Nov. 15th, and a new Halo trilogy starting next year, you will be more than content with your Halo fix. :)

PS3 for me. I have had both in the past, and the PS3's exclusives are far better in my opinion, much less in the way of generic shooters and more originality.
