Ok, I'm sorry, but how could anyone say that Dragon Age influenced anything? It's not the fact that the game bored the hell out of me, but it hasn't even been out for a year yet. If it did influence something, they probably haven't had time to get it out yet...

This has got to go to Zelda and Dragon Quest. Zelda, along with Dragon Quest were the first of their kind and together have pushed forward a lot of the most well known features of modern RPGs today.

I honestly have to say NWN.

I spent easy an hour just on my character.
It was just immersive, enjoyable, fast paced ((without being to fast paced so you dont have to spend every waking second micro-ing.))

When i think RPG, i instantly think NWN and NWN2.

Baldur's Gate in the west, Final Fantasy in the east. Of the two, Baldur's Gate is far superior by miles. Character customisation, fascinating characters, myriad plot threads, a branching dialogue system.. Awesome stuff.

The Legend of Dragoon,THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Or,rather,it has the POTENTIAL to impact the RPG genre in a big way. A tacticaly sized inventory of 32 items, leaked experience,additions...
If more people paid attention to the game,it'd have had an INFINITELY more powerful impact than any other game.

I'd probably say Morrowind. Or the entire Elderscrolls series actually, they had the large environments, complete freedom and so many options to make the freedom worth while.

Sure Final Fantasy is a good RPG but... Elderscrolls has taken RPG to a more literal level, you actually play the role of a detailed character that you have created and venture out into a seemingly living world.

Final Fantasy is just... grind.

Final Fantasy - By Far - No other game has introduced so many other elements which are now been ripped off, or used in other series.

Without a doubt
Thats my voting reason, I honestly couldn't say the other choices did this better, and if that's not influence what is :)?

Out of these choices?

I must say I don't really know Dragonquest.
Zelda is, in my definition, not really an RPG.
Oblivion and Dragon Age are simply too new: they are influenced, they don't influence.
Neverwinter Nights... not really. It didn't have anything I'd see as new or revolutionary.

Final Fantasy, then. Both the entire series and most of them on their own. They did change things, even if I dislike both the combat system and the linear storytelling.

But reallly, as has been said, that list misses a lot of games.

I've never played FF, (properly, anyway), so I can't really have any opinion on it (I know this is a poll on influence, but when you haven't played much of a game, there's no point in voting for it).

I'd like to say KotOR,; It brought BioWare and good story-telling to masses, along with Bastila Shan.

Gotta catch somma 'dat ass.

But, it was more influenced by former titles, so I'm just gonna go with Baldur's Gate.

Truly, a classic.

Baldur's Gate series?.....
my thoughts exactly....

glad to see some thought going into the options.

Oblivion was influenced by RPG's, I'm sure it will influence other RPG's in time, but come on, thats the relative new comer. Dragon age is even newer.

As much as I love it, what on earth is Dragon Age doing in there? Have there been any big RPGs since for it to influence? Plus, it was always described as the spiritual successor to the Baldur's Gate series, which are sadly lacking.

Zelda man...

While FF is almost as old as Zelda, the name itself is so iconic, and Link has become one of the most famous video game characters in existence. Final Fantasy didn't get a character like that until 7.

I don't think Zelda really counts... That seemed more Adventure platformer to me than RPG.

Where the hell are Wizardry, Fallout, Morrowind/Daggerfall, original King's Bounty, Baldur's Gate or even Knights Of The Old Republic?

Oblivion is a successor to Morrowind with nothing particularly new except for visuals, so how can we talk about Oblivion influence here?

How the hell could have Dragon Age influenced something, when it was released less than a year ago? And even with that in mind, DA is a classic RPG to a bone.

Final Fantasy is an RPG series?! Is this planet somehow different from the Earth?

Oh, and Zelda really isn't an RPG - where's role playing in it? It's an action-adventure in modern terms, and it's clearly influenced the whole genre, only it wasn't an RPG.

Much as I love Dragon Age, I don't think it belongs on this list. You can't really talk about a game that came out in 2009 having a massive influence on the RPG genre as a whole. Besides, Dragon Age is a deliberate homage and spiritual successor to older RPGs like Baldur's Gate, taking cues from there and presenting the story and gameplay in a fresh way. It's far too soon to tell if DA is going to have an influence on anything, and it also depends on what direction the series goes in DA2.
