My older brother and I like to have a laugh at the blacks and natives.
But we are terrible people so it's all good.

Well considering I live in Texas I'd say about 3/4ths of my family are racist and about half my friends. Not the extreme oh all black people need to be killed racist but still racist nonetheless. I've learned to just deal with it but it's still hard being in a conversation with a chick and your wingman makes a racist comment and totally kills the mood or being out with your family somewhere and they say something racist and you just gotta grin and bear it.
The "considering I live in Texas" part is rather unnecessary, as none of my family or friends here are racist.

I think there's a line to be drawn between 'racist' and 'being ignorant of how language has moved on'.

When your dad calls the chinese takeaway the 'chinkies', he's not showing hatred towards them or he'd not give them his money, he's just not got a clue that the word isn't really acceptable any more and probably won't change.

Almost any kind of asian restaurant or takeaway in the UK will end up being called 'the local chinese' by most people, just thru simplicity. I remember embarrassing myself a bit when I was younger, having bought an imported Streetfighter 2 cartridge for the SNES, with jap instructions. I took it into my local chinese, as I was regular and asked them to tell me what was written in one bit, only to be told they can't read it, lol...what a dummy.

However, I wasn't half as embarrassed as I would be if I did that nowadays.

It's strange tho, that some racist stereotypes seem to build themselves, for instance, almost ever independent cafe, Wimpy, or Starburger I've ever been in, is run by turkish or cypriot or greek people, men, there's rarely a woman to be seen. Wonder if that's true in other parts of the UK!

Almost nobody.

The only person in my family that makes comments like "THOSE DAMN (insert minority here) " without any sense of sarcasm or irony would be my great-grandmother, and even then she's too old to really notice race in the first place.

You forgot to mention extremist muslims want to kill all non-extremist muslims as well.

OT: No one I know of in my family is racist. Some of my idiot cousins like to make racist jokes and pretend to be because I guess they think it makes them cool and edgy. Even my grandmother who was raised during the times of racism being common and accepted isn't, though her mother certainly was.
Yes, when you look into the extremism, you have to wonder what they want, surely, if the only solution is the complete eradication of all those with less extreme views than yourself, surely... you're going to end up left with one extremely angry man, with a really BIG beard, left alone on the planet, having wiped out all others for not being as righteous as him?

Seems like the moment you take a step towards extremism you can't win, maybe someone should tell people.

My grandma doesn't like the Irish, while my mother's prejudiced against Asians of all sorts. We have racism of all shades in my family, pardon the pun.

My family is an well educated one, we often have deep discussions around the subject.

None of us are racist, but we are VERY hostile against immigration.
I understand that some need to come to our beautiful Norway, but many immigrants bring with them gang mentality, violence and drugs.

My dads point is a very sound one in my ears.
In the 80s Oslo only had alcoholics to worry about, now one can't walk along the streets without getting hostile looks from ethnic gangs.

Its not a hatred towards them as persons, just the horrible ethics, treatment of women and overuse of perfume.

Again, no racists - Just not very immigration friendly
But prime immigrants that BOTHER to learn our language are one of us!

My grandma (paternal side) is a bit racist, but she's also old fashioned something terrible.

"Look at the Mexicans..." that's a phrase I won't forget for a while...

We are all racist, some more so than others, but deep down we have some feelings about the different skin colors. Maybe not by hatred, but if you walked down a street and saw a few people of a different skin color with questionable appeal in a group, would you not avoid them out of worry of what they may be planning? For all you know they could be best friends messing around, but most people would still have an uneasy feeling inside them thinking of scenarios "Am I going to be jumped/attacked/insulted?" or such, and usually their race has a factor to it.

Just wanted to point that out there, and in my family, if you mean racist as in truly extreme-racist, then no. My family does have some sour feelings with Mexicans, but we still have Mexican friends and such, and talk to them all the time happily, it's just when a situation like that above arises for whatever race, my family might get a bit vocal with worry.

If you people don't like it, too bad. Simple. I am honest with it.
It's people like this that i hate. Completely misinformed, and completely lacking the mental faculties needed to filter out information that sounds like bullshit (UUH, 90000% OF MOROCCANS HAVE CRIMINAL RECORDS, DHUURRRRR) and/or understand that humans are individuals, and are, in fact, not connected to some massive racial hive mind that commands them to commit crimes.

If Moroccans are more likely to commit crimes, it's because of their environment, not their ''nature''. Saying that Moroccans are criminals by nature is like saying all Dutchmen are fucking idiots lacking basic intelligence because I've seen one guy who is like that, and heard about Dutchmen being idiots on the news. That isn't true, by the way, i know Dutchmen who are pretty good human beings.

well not TECHNICLY racism, as its not so much judged on their race, but on the statistic probability of someone of a said race, being a tottal ass-hat criminal XD
muslims, maroccans, etc. and this goes for pretymuch every simpleton in a radius of a few miles around me XD

but jeah, its just a bit.. too easy for them to be like that, i mean, its a bit weard if a certain population group is just 3, 4 times as much likely to commit a crime/violent crime then normal people, and a least a third has before they even become adult.. :/
You have no idea what you're talking about, I can't even begin to tell you what's wrong with your post, do you have any sources for your claims?
well, yes, realy XD lol.
the EU has a site that keeps track of a rediculous amounts of statistics, its on there, as well as on certain sites my own government keeps up.
also, it has been on the news ( multiple papers, all across the spectrum of newspapers) multiple times.
so sorry to say, yes, i have sources. and its not my claim, its a fact.
also, whats wrong with my post per-se? i was just stating that everyone round here was kinda racists-ish to Muslims and Moroccans and the like, the rest, is kinda just telling people about the statistics, although, indeed, i did forget to mention to say i was talking about the netherlands, its probably not as bad elsewhere.
good day to you sir, or if it may be madam.
You... Well, you at least have some kind of logical basis for your beliefs... But it's still wrong. Very, very wrong. Let me give you an example.

Mister dude (going to call him that because i can't remember his name) is an immigrant from eastern Europe. He's a Muslim, a criminal and a general moron. He likes violence, and is generally just an incredibly shitty human being.

Saeed is an immigrant who, at the age of 17, was pretty much one of the best mathematicians (of his age) in this municipality, if not region. He won a whole bunch of competitions and so on. At the age of 30 something, he became a head doctor (or whatever it's called), something most people don't get to even start dreaming about at his age. He's a Muslim, but in moderation, and mostly follows the commands that are considered generally good, you know, the ones that promote peaceful solutions to conflicts and so on. (keep in mind that i actually know these people, though i really only went to school with the first dude for like a year)

People like saeed might not be the majority here (again, the enviroment they grow up in makes a pretty big difference, people who are stuffed into the less desirable areas along with a shitload of other immigrants tend to fail to integrate into the society and generally don't have particularly bright futures ahead of them), but he, and other people like him (who make up a good part of the immigrant population) don't deserve to be treated like that moron. But since people seem to assume that because you have something in common with someone else, you have that other person's traits, he probably ran into some undeserved roadblocks when he was younger.

And yes, this post probably didn't make sense, it was late when i made it. Might come around and edit it later.

Also, yes, I'm an immigrant, came here from Egypt, but since my family had money, i didn't end up in some shitty slum like a lot of the new immigrants who don't have much if any money. I've managed to integrate quite well, and I'm studying computers/programming. And did i mention that Saeed grew up in a good area, not completely filled to the brim with poor immigrants who were dumped there because the government couldn't be bothered to put them somewhere where they have a good chance of integrating? Yeah, i think there's a pretty clear connection.

OP: My family back in Egypt is a teeny tiny bit xenophobic. And sexist. And homophobic. Last two might not be a teeny tiny bit... More like, a kiloshitload.

And I and my grandparents are white.
I strongly dislike white guys. I wouldn't say I'm racist but no racist would. I too am white though. I think it could just be that I dislike other males in my age group...I dunno >.> Anyway I get along way better with ladies so guys can suck it. (note: I have no beef with guys on The Escapist. Gamers and geeks are fine with me. Hell, I'd take the antics of a lovable forum troll to those of the drunken jock or, stoned hipster)

Anyway as for actual-factual racism. My grandma is but then, she's in her 70's and I'm pretty sure all white people over a certain age are bigots (their ability to bake cookies saves them from damnation). My Dad is also a shameless racist though he wouldn't admit it. I'll put it to you like this: My dad once scolded me for saying God-Damn and yet in the same weekend dropped the N-bomb in a fit of road rage. Granted I was like, 13 when I said God-Damn (this was about 9 years ago) but still. He still drops N-bombs all the time. One of the many reasons I'm glad I don't see him too often.

Not really, I was raised in a fairly open household and to only dislike people because of their personalities. The only reasonable excuse to ever do so in my personal opinion.

As for my family?...Well, I don't really have any contact with 3/4 of them.
