After 40 mintues of explaining that the pteradactyl is not a real species... "Ok, yes we get it. Pteradactls aren't real but their was flying dinosaurs called pterasaurs."

I almost cried.

Some prep ***** in one of my classes asked "Is it racist if you don't like gay people?". To which a generic redneck replied "No its sexist." Also, the same prep girl once said "Did you know Obama is a muslim? Yeah, his middle name is Hussiegn (don't know how to spell it) that makes him a muslim." Freaking ignorant mother fuckers. I hate where I live.

Ordinarily I'd agree with you but when you're halfway through the movie and it's been shown several times that Clark Kent is Superman's alter ego it's inexcusable. Mind you, she was paying attention and even the "non-geeks" were stupefied.

i was thinking more of that girl earlier not knowing who the x men were. frankly if you don't know them and you see them in their identical uniforms then sports team is fairly believable as a guess.
Fair enough, I see where you're coming from. The sheer moment of hilarity was something beautiful though ;)

I apologise for going here, but I'm a WoW-nut so...

Went to a random heroic dungeon with 2 guildies, our tank was crap, great gear but couldn't survive and hold aggro, he leaves, the random mage in the group starts flaming our healer friend who hadn't done anything but spam-heal the tank, with no success. Another tank joins, worse gear than the first one, gets splattered all over the floor, at which point, the mage flames yet again, calling our healer friend a noob, and using the "my main is a [insert random class who the person he is trying to flame, is]. We all start flaming back, to which he responds "shut up, noobs" and leaves the group.

These kind of events make me lose faith in humanity. >_<
I'm building up a healer in WoW, and now have stopped using the Dungeon Finder entirely because of idiotic groups.
Example: In one section of Blackfathom Deeps (fairly easy to heal, I've cleared it no sweat with guildie alts helping me get healer xp), there is a room that has extremely dense enemy volumes (most of whom are high-damage warlocks with voidwalkers). There is also a boss in the center of said room. Our pug tank decided to round the corner running, pull every damn thing in the room, and promptly blame me for not saving him from the fifteen or so elites beating on his ass...not so much fun.
Oh, I feel for you. I oft experienced something similar in Warhammer Online.
My first alt was a Healer, and I was nearly put off from using it after one time...
We were in the first PvP area, and had got a nice group together. I was group leader, and we had just taken an objective, and was guarding it, waiting for it to get locked. Then, some Order players appear at the bottom of the hill we are on, trying to lure us away.
I promply write, in big CAPPED letters: DON'T CHASE...
...and one of our tanks was off, rushing towards the small mob of order players down there. It takes a few seconds for me to realize what the idiot just did, and we try to keep up with him and save him from certain doom. We didn't. He got there, all alone, and was promptly nuked by several Fire Wizards, while melees finished him off.

A few seconds later I get a private message: NICE HEALING IDIOT. And then he leaves the group.

The friends I was talking to on Skype had to endure about 10 moniutes of rage after that.

The pre-finals, so the year before the last year of high school. In history class in Belgium; the teacher was saying what we were going to cover in the last year of history and so the teacher said we would finish that year with WW2 and then the final year we would move on to the American civil rights movements, etc...
What I'm about to say may sound stupid but why do they teach things like the American civil rights movement in a history class in Belgium? To be honest here in America what we learn about other countries is extremely limited because let's face it most Americans seem to care only about the US and our history and couldn't care less about the rest of world.
While it's not a whole lot, in the Netherlands we do get taught a little bit about the American revolution and stuff. The rest of class focuses a bit more on European history as a whole instead of just Dutch history. I think classes in Belgium are similiar to this.

you're going to fit in well here. Welcome to the Escapist.

OT:

Anytime somebody posts this picture:

As a socialist, knowing that socialism is an ideal based in pure democracy, this makes me cringe. Sometimes, seeing somebody use it to represent the socialist ideology will make me feel legitimate feelings of depression for around an hour.
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST. IS THAT HITLER ON THE FAR RIGHT? I can understand confusing communism and socialism, since they're on the same side of the spectrum but HITLER IS ON THE FAR RIGHT, A FASCIST, ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE POLITICAL SPECTRUM. HE HATED SOCIALISTS.
/rage

Not to mention the two on the left and center were communists, not socialists.

I can sympathize with that depression, but since I'm not one to cut myself I'll cut the next person that posts it. and While we're on ideologies, "Communism is a dictatorial totalitarian regime where to government controls and applies the means of production." This wasn't said by a class mate, this was in my text book. Hell just take the above poster and replace socialism with communism. Oh and, "North Korea is an atheist country." I'm gonna stop now before my head explodes

This is why I love the Escapist. Nobody responded with ignorance telling me that I was wrong and that socialism is "eveelz". Multiple people sympathized.
Let's just say you were lucky - there was an ENTIRE thread practically about that image, and the number of people who SINCERELY thought that Hitler was a Socialist ('he called it the 'National Socialist Party'!') was mind-boggling.

I hate my class for their ignorance in physics. Also we too had this great conversation about the faked moon landing and all the conspiracy theories were there...
Not to mention the question I remember best: "If we could find water on the moon wouldn't it be full of... like... moon poison?"
As legit as this question may seem when meant as a chemical approach (she didn't mean it that way), what the hell is 'moon poison'?
JeanLuc761 said:
As a side note, and forgive me if this sounds sexist as that's not my intent, why are so many of the examples in this thread from girls? Have I missed something here?
Yeah... my class for example consists nearly only of girls (in most subjects we're only two boys) so the ratio is a bit on their side.

I chose to wear my Hammer and Sickle T shirt the other day. Some curious kid came up to me and said:

Tosser: 'What's that on your shirt?'
Me: 'It's the symbol of the Soviet Union'
Tosser: 'Oh, Is that, like, White Power or something?'
Me: *Sighs and walks off*
To be honest I would have done something similar if I'd seen someone wearing a communist t-shirt.

I feel for you. A few hours ago while running heroics via the Dungeon Finder, we found ourselves in Utgarde Keep with a Paladin tank outfitted with DPS gear. Not good. He rage-quit a few minutes later because the first two mobs he pulled decided they should kill our healer first. How a tank player could come that far and not be able to hold aggro efficiently is beyond me.

Friend, your universal translator has broken. I'm afraid you've been conversing entirely in nerd.

Seriously though: What?

Looting set to If you need it, you get it.
Dungeon Difficulty set to Hardest for 5 players
[DG] [Gulizakiya-Blackrock]: Goodbye, have a good day
Darty-Blackrock is now the group leader.
Gulizakiya leaves the party.
Mithun picks up cloth and relics.
[P] [Crustysocks-Blackrock]: this mage sucks.
[P] [Mithun-Nagrand]: haha
[DG] [Darty-Blackrock]: from an amazing rogue to this?
[P] [Crustysocks-Blackrock]: lol
[DG] [Darty-Blackrock]: i am dissapointed
[P] [Crustysocks-Blackrock]: tsk tsk tsk
[P] [Crustysocks-Blackrock]: lets find another damage dealer
[P] [Crustysocks-Blackrock]: kick mage in 13 min, timer runs out then
[P] [Mithun-Nagrand]: lol
A role check has been initiated. Your group will be queued when all members have selected a role.
Darty has chosen: Damage
Mithun has chosen: Tank, Damage
Crustysocks has chosen: Healer
[DG] [Darty-Blackrock]: naww hes cool
[P] [Abditus]: are you guys serious?
[DG] [Darty-Blackrock]: poor guy
[P] [Crustysocks-Blackrock]: lol
[P] [Mithun-Nagrand]: yeah give him a chance
[P] [Crustysocks-Blackrock]: oook
[P] [Mithun-Nagrand]: imagine if u just achieved level 80.
[DG] [Darty-Blackrock]: i did
[DG] [Darty-Blackrock]: yesterday
[P] [Abditus]: I would've thought the purpose of hard dungeons was to get your character good armor and weapons.
Abditus has chosen: Damage
You are now queued in the Dungeon Finder.
[P] [Mithun-Nagrand]: lol
Oolong joins the party.

At this stage I accidentally pull a really strong monster and a few normals monsters as well. No big deal.

[DG] [Darty-Blackrock]: or pull a hard group of monsters...
[P] [Abditus]: oops my bad
[P] [Abditus]: soz, not a good first impression aye

Never mind that then, we'll just move on.
Unfortunately, through the next few battles, it's apparent that something is wrong. I'm doing my usual job of using group attacks to take the really strong monsters down, but near the boss Krystallus something happens: during a fight, I get charged seemingly out of the blue by one of the monsters (probably a really hard one) and killed in one or two hits. No idea how that happened. I was just standing there mass attacking them like usual. Perhaps the person meant to keep their attention was not doing it like he should have.

[P] [Abditus]: umm
[P] [Abditus]: yeah
[P] [Crustysocks-Blackrock]: well... you got owned
[DG] [Darty-Blackrock]: you got killed in 2 hits...
[P] [Mithun-Nagrand]: sorry, my computer has high latency tonight.
[P] [Crustysocks-Blackrock]: lool

[Crustysocks-Blackrock] says: Recount - DamagePerSsecond for Overall Data
[Crustysocks-Blackrock] says: 1. Oolong 5547.1 (26.5%)
[Crustysocks-Blackrock] says: 2. Pocketknives 4860.8 (23.2%)
[Crustysocks-Blackrock] says: 3. Darty 3608.6 (17.2%)
[Crustysocks-Blackrock] says: 4. >Abditus<-Thaurissan 2697.7 (12.9%)
[Crustysocks-Blackrock] says: 5. Gulizakiya 2598 (12.4%)
[Crustysocks-Blackrock] says: 6. Mithun-Nagrand 1575.4 (7.5%)

I wait a moment to see if I'll be ressurected. No such luck. At this point, I release my spirit and run back to my body.
And why is he bothering with Recount on NORMAL MOBS?

[P] [Crustysocks-Blackrock]: 2000 dps with area of effect spells...nice
[P] [Abditus]: I shouldn't have to put up with this
You leave the group.

Key notes: they obviously had much better gear than I had, as I had only just hit 80 and my GearScore was only 2700 while theirs was in the 4-5k range. You do the math.
If this is what it's commonly like at level 80, then there's a very serious problem.

Maybe my translation is better? :D, It's basically a group of people with their internet-penis so far up their own ass, they could fit in with (insert worst enemy here)
Yep. Your translation definitely wins. :D

I'll explain as best I can.

I pulled ONE "hard" monster, which despite having a lot of health for its level is literally nothing for a group of three or four players to deal with. This monster also had a few weaker monsters with it. I could've taken those weaker monsters out all at once by myself, even with the gear I had on at the time. The reason I was 4th on the Recount list was that, because of the other players have far better gear than me, they were doing far more damage than I was and therefore killing the monsters quicker, too quickly for me to deal any substantial damage. You can't expect someone with a GearScore of 2700 to top a Recount list in a group of players who have 4-5k GearScore. That's like expecting your school's top athlete to outrun a seasoned Olympic track runner. It won't happen. Also, Recount is only meant to be used for fighting bosses, not trash monsters.

When a player reaches level 80 (max level), their GearScore is usually at around 2500. That's when they start going through dungeons at hard difficulty in order to get better items and gear so that they can be powerful enough to take on more difficult dungeons. However, extremely well-geared level 80 players often go back to these dungeons in order to collect Emblems (a type of in-game currency) by killing bosses. This makes it a lot more likely for new level 80 players to run into unintelligent, elitist jerks.

The upshot of all this is that this is the exact equivalent of a group of state champion swimmers entering a beginner's swimming class for kids and then taunting and bullying the actual beginner students, making things extremely difficult for them.

It was a couple of years ago in my AP US History Class and there was a group of kids who kept arguing the whole class about how Roosevelt let Pearl Harbor happen to fight Germany. And they kept saying that if it wasn't for the US then Hitler would rule the world. Their main argument for why the Soviet Union got to Berlin was that because the US was coming in from the west then Hitler had to move all his armies over to stop us. I basically told them to look at timeline and that by D-Day, the Soviet Union was already kicking ass towards Berlin

A girl in my wifes social class asked if the Pyramids were in Greece. That was a face palm for my wife who is a avid egyptologist-in-hobby.

For me it was in school we had to present what sport we had played or curently did. After explaining what i did in alpine ski racing and the really fun parts(going amazing speeds, great scenery, amazing friends and people) along with some video clips of a couple nasty wipeouts, the stoner, skater, snowboarder guy at the back of the class states snowboarding is better because you go faster, get more air, look less gay and get better wipeouts.

Ugh.

Although i did shut him up when i put on my skin suit and got 2 girls in my class to ask me out right then and there and got quite a few dates for the next few weeks.

Ahh, anti-religion nutjobs are so cute when they try to sound important :)
You might want to look up what monotheism is. I'm not anti-religious, I'm anti-stupidity. Monotheism breeds ignorance and stupidity like no other. Polytheism is far less deluded, as the majority of them utilise the gods as personifications of aspects of their lives (the earth, death, skies, wisdom etc.), while monotheistic groups see themselves as images/tools of their respective gods. The religion isn't flawed, the people who mindlessly abide by them for no good reason are.

Riven Armor said:
Given that the thread title, how do all monotheistic religions compel their followers to "feats of stupidity" and why is it that you specify monotheistic religions? Are their polytheistic companions immune to this flaw?
As I said above, monotheistic religions (main cases in point being Christianity and Islam, since Buddhism is actually a great religion) cause idiotic acts due to fear and blind faith. Sure, it's not the case in every person, but the very nature of monotheism drives an (easily manipulated) system that often causes grief and stupidity. An example of flawed religion ruining lives is Ireland - and that's the SAME religion, just a different denomination.

Polytheism isn't entirely immune, but they are far, far less frequent. As I said, polytheistic religions tend to have the gods as representations of things in life, rather than an omnipotent, unimaginable being that "made us in his image/as his tools".

A friend of friend was giving me a physics lecture on how glass is a really viscous liquid, I mentioned that I'd read about old church windows being thicker at the bottom than at the top because they have been slowly pouring for centuries, to which he replied:

'There can't be any windows that old, glass wasn't invented untill the 1890's, around the end of the Tudor period.'

I have to say, I've said a couple of stupid things myself. I thought that Shakespeare lived in the 1800's (when I was like 16) but when someone asked during which century he lived I think I said "the 18th century". now I know he lived in the 16th and 17th century. But I got pretty laughed at in that class. (in my defense,I can say that I come from sweden and here the 18th century IS the 1800's)
Another time someone asked a girl in my class what her IQ was and she said "umm... 2000" Yeah...
