I like guitars, drums, and singing that isn't simply talking along to a synthesizer. I'm sure there's good rap out there, but I haven't found it, and I'm not interested enough to search for it. It just seems to me to be rather lazy, and the high profile rappers don't help the image. I'll stick with Tom Waits, NOMEANSNO, Neutral Milk Hotel, Leningrad, and The Dead Kennedys. You know, bands with a modicum of talent that don't need autotune, use real instruments, and don't feel like talking about screwing bitches, partying with the homies, busting peoples asses with their gats, drinking courvoisier, killing cops, being badasses, etc.
You, Sir, deserve a cookie.

Not many people can mention Tom Waits, NoMeansNo, and DK in the same sentence, and MEAN IT.

Back on-topic, I've gone and watched the 'Rap Parodies' "I'm on a boat", and "I'm da Boss". It's depressingly similar to the rest of the currently mainstream hip-hop flotsam, except with slightly fewer actual bitches. Except possibly the yo-yo's singing/rapping/whatever-they-call-those-noises. And it's ALMOST less appealing than REAL RAP/Hip-Hop.

Almost.

The vast majority of rap barely qualifies as music. A typical rap song has a repetitive one-measure drum beat, some brief rhythmic electronic noises, and a vocalist, but no singing - only talking.

Personally i dislike all rap music and detest the vast majority of it.

For the rap music i merely dislike, such as the 'old-school' raps, i simply do not enjoy the music style, it seems to be birthed in some ways by those who seem to aloof to sing and/or simply do not have the talent. However in some cases I grant that both of those statements are incorrect, I simply dislike the sounds.

The rap 'music' which Ii fundamentally detest is unfortunately that which is increasingly prevalent in modern society. Personally I blame hip-hop/rap for much of the decline in western youth culture, which is also increasingly becoming popular with older listeners also. (be aware that i am now referencing the newer rap)

A great deal of modern rap promotes crime, violence, misogyny, bigotry, racism, gangs, jealousy, arrogance, vindictiveness, genocide, homophobia and general anti-intellectualism. The fact that this malevolent propaganda is directly marketed to young children and teenagers makes the matter far more serious.

Not only does the music itself promote such negative values, the individual rappers are often just as bad if not worse. Often they are of African-American heritage and many seem intent on the prorogation of segregation. With rap lyrics that seem to be in favour of racial intolerance and the expectations of outright bigotry, this simply leads to those expectations becoming reality.

In fact, many liquor companies and those with similar interests are now sponsoring and promoting up-coming rappers. With such evident support it seems obvious that these companies believe that rap music is facilitates those who are likely to succumb to liquor advertisements.

Do you agree?

Can anyone give me some reasons for the rap hate?
I find it devoid of any emotion (apart from, sometimes, hate). When you say words too quickly, there isn't enough time to emphasis its meaning or any feeling.

Yes, there's also the fact that the stereotype is it's all about gansters, etc, which I know is not strictly true, but it's often about something negative (then again, what music is positive these days, certainly not rock).

I'm a big Jedi Mink Tricks fan, but there are a lot of painfully bad artists out there

'Baby by me' - 50 Cent...Its enough to make you hate the genre as a whole.
Horrible, horrible point.

One really bad song does not represent a genre. If you think that.. Well..

I like rap. yes, there is some real crap that is inexplicably popular e.g. Soulja Boy, but isn't that true of every genre?

It's just not my kind of music. I'm more of an Instrumental guy.

I'll take Trans-Siberian Orchestra over 50 cent ANY day.

To each there own, I suppose...

Because rap isn't actual music anymore, it's just one guy rapping with a bad "phat bass" rhythm playing in the background. Of course vocals are an important part of music but if you deliberately neglect instruments, melody and any form of experimenting with actual SOUND, just for the sake of emphasizing your lyrics then you're not a rapper, but a preacher.

Exceptions have been known to exist, but the last wild sighting of these was in 2001. All specimens since have been bred in captivity.

Pretty much the only rap artist that i like is Eminem, he's got a good amount of good songs and recently Till I Colaplse as hooked my like heroine, im always listeing to it.

But the whole other area of the genra i seem to dislike, the songs that are all about rape and drugs and shit just get really annoying.

And BTW, you don't need to swear to make a point.
I don't Understand this at all. I hear a lot of people say that they hate rap because its mysoginistic and about violence and drugs and then they turn around and say that they like Eminem, an artist who has some of the most mysoginistic and violent songs that include drug references.

I mean I personally love Eminem but I just can't understand that mindset

Me and my ex band mates live together in a house, we run our humble studio there.

Now I like rap, we all do. Not our main genre by any means, but some of it is honestly great. With that said, we LOOOVE recording rap, because it's so much simpler to do than record music with instruments.

It's like shooting fish in a barrel. The one problem is that it's literally 50/50 as to if the rap musicians are actually going to show up. I'm not sure why!
