When I first saw it I was extremely happy.
Then I scrolled down and saw the warnings and now know that this will not end well at all.

Dunno why but I'm completely overlooking the fact that this is as dangerous as a 3 year old with a katana at hand who just finished watching the whole star wars saga and is feeling a little "slashy" just because it's THE COOLEST THING EVER MADE BY MANKIND. But unfortunatelly, it's also pricey.

Not to be a party pooper, but seriously: This laser is WEAK! You can't permanently blind someone from a block away with this shit. And you also cannot melt the face off of someone, maybe give a 1 square centimetre burn on their face, but not damage them in that way.

If it's so bad, take a very long sleeved leather jacket and strap MIRRORS to it, your legs and make a face mask out of mirrors and you're safe for the next 20 years of street warfare!

These lasers have been around for several years, and no one has started mugging people with them.

"It will blind permanently and instantly and set fire quickly to skin and other body parts."

He's right. High powered lasers have been around for a LONG long time now, the most trouble they've caused is screwing up pilot's vision, which admittedly is deadly as hell but at least randoms aren't going around shooting cancer at people.

That being said, they could become a pretty handy deterrent if used properly.

I can forsee this being banned in the near future, especially in the UK. In fact, I am wondering why they haven't just banned it now actually. It's just an accident waiting to happen.

Also, may cause cancer, may I predict 2 pages in tomorrow's Daily Mail? They normally don't wait for any kind of evidence to prove something causes or prevents it, so this is basically free copy. Add that to the idea that 'youths' will start mugging people with these overpowered torches, and it's half a paper filled with no effort :)

If you think me unfair, check this site, which logs every article they print about cancer, and the site is becoming a threat to wikipedia in size :)

http://kill-or-cure.heroku.com/

What's most amusing is the sheer number of things the paper has reported both causes and prevents cancer at once, including alcohol, aspirin, babies, and bread.

Wow.....
This is so horribly wrong that it's scary.
People could do some realy stupid and terrible things with this.
I love the tech....but I don't trust humanity with it.
Specially not the general public.

This is the stupidest idea I've ever heard.

Forget all the pointless rhetoric comparing it to other weapons. You can't run out into the street and shoot somebody in a crowd, or use a sidewalk for a road without expecting repercussions.

But a laser capable of bodily harm? Like those tossers at a movie that shine a pointer on the screen, only now they can sit on a park bench and burn/blind random people, and it's untraceable.

I don't get it...it's perfectly fine that they've been selling 1W lasers for years, but someone puts one in a lightsabre and everyone panics?

I hate you and everything you stand for.

joking aside i dont think this should be available to the public. Giving your average idiot an item with the description "blinds instantly" is not a recipe for success.
