I rarely get comments like that, but there was this one time where this kid in Halo 3 told me that I was cheap for using the Rocket Launchers. I'm sorry that it's apparently my fault that the rocket launchers were right in front of me and I did what I could to win. There's a difference between being resourceful and being cheap, and I wasn't being cheap. If I was cheap, I would've glitched the game to have unlimited ammo. That's being cheap.

I got several death threats for using a tank back when they were in Hardcore mode.

here is an idea for free: YOU CAN BLOW UP THE FUCKING TANK, it isnt my fault they were too stupid to realize that the stick grenades kicked ass against them.
Hahahahaha!
I didn't get Death threats but, my Mother and my Religion were mentioned several times in between all the cussing.
The other team was just upset that despite the fact that my Tank was in the Red Zone i took out Two of their Tanks and proceeded to take out their Snipers as well for the rest of the match.
And even when they got a Grenade Launcher they missed me almost every time.

also, being called a sniper whore in Red Dead Redemption, since obviously in the wild west there was only revolvers.
[sarcasm]Oh yea, because the Wild West only had Revolvers, they didn't have weapons like Shotguns and Rifles.
and im sure that there were no people back then who could use a Rifle to pick off people from afar.[sarcasm]
:p
still satisfying killing a guys horse while he is out in the middle of nowhere.
That sounds like a lot of fun actually.

I was playing MW2 in 3rd person tdm and my teamates all used riot shields. They yelled at me for not using a riot shield. If you want to do that phalanx tatic go ahead but don't yell at me when I pretty much win the game.

Oh, here's one I just remembered. Not ridiculous gameplay mechanics-wise, but a ridiculous reason to get yelled at nevertheless.

Rock Band. I have a set group of friends, we play through World Tour, we usually play in the same roles.

For some reason, our singer considers any instance when one of us snickers or otherwise cracks up during a song as an insult to himself. It doesn't matter what you were laughing about (and in most cases, it's NOT about his singing), he will go on a rant about how you're absolutely shit at singing and he'd like seeing you sing this song. Every. Single. Time. It gets to the point where nobody even comments on his performance or the difficulty of the vocals track or anything, because that guy is so emotional about it.

Not to make it look like I hold a grudge against him (I really like him IRL), but this seems to be a similar mindset to microphone yellers.

Just... just ughhh...

I am SO happy i stopped playing MW2.
Who comes up with this crap. HARD scope? Anyone who says this needs a swift kick in the balls(if he has any).

OT: When i did play MW2, at least 4 people on the other team started yelling at me for modding my FAL, in which i actually didn't. Go figure. =/

There's something wrong with using the scope?
I'm baffled. Just write it off as those kids being pissed off that you killed them.

OT: I got yelled at during a halo 3 match for shooting a guy on a mongoose as he attempted to run me over. The conversation went like this:
Him: FUCK YOU
Me: what?
Him: YOU DONT SHOOT A FUCKING MONGOOSE
That last quote was so hilarious, I just had to screencap it:

I'm not up on my RTS jargon, cause I suck at human-vs-human RTS games... What's a 'cheese' strat?
An overly competitive strategy, that is usually a "one trick pony", which might very well secure the user his win, but will not make for a very fun game. For an example, in Starcraft, Protoss can use the Cannon rush, which, if countered, will leave the user in a very bad position. If it succeeds, however, there is next to nothing you can do, and the only thing to do is wait while the user bleeds you out slowly.

I am not that much of an RTS player, but in the tabletop game Warhammer, the term is used to describe army compositions that are horribly overpowered, due to not having been discovered during playtesting. When these armies are used, it requires you to specifically taylor your army to counter this cheese strategy, or you're screwed.

So yes, horribly overpowered strategy that ruins the fun.

This isn't online, and it's a bit dated, but I will share this anyhow.

I was playing the Heist multiplayer mode in Conker's Bad Fur Day with one of my friends, a friend of his, and his cousin.

Well, I had the money bag and was running to my vault when the friend of a friend started chasing me with the rocket launcher. After some skilled weaving and wobbling, I evaded every rocket and dropped the bag off. I then countered with the throwing knives and took him out.

He threw a fit saying that "It's not realistic for throwing knives to beat rocket launchers!" and accused me of cheating. Granted, throwing knives in that game were really awesome. They could kill in one hit with a headshot, but didn't have the targetting laser the sniper rifle had, didn't have the slow moving rockets, and didn't require you to be in melee like the chainsaw or katana.

I was playing SC2 (beta) last night. The match lasted about 20 minutes and towards the end we threw back their attack on our base with tons of stalkers and a bunch of thors with an army of broodlords and Colossus, then proceeded to counter attack. We then got bitched out by the other team for using a "cheese" strat...
Twenty minutes and they're bitching about you being able to push their attack back and then proceed to counterattack? How is this even remotely considered cheese? (As far as I'm aware, "cheese" usually refers to an unconventional tactic, something you wouldn't normally do.)
speaking of sup com, i got yelled at once when me and my buddies saw a guy on the other team who was obviously ridiculously good, we recognized him from some leaderboard or other, so they sent me because i wasn't very good to go suicide his commander with mine... that actually was kind of a cheese strategy so i won't yell at him for that

i get yelled at for killing people in halo 3 with an assault rifle all the time, especially if they were using a BR... sorry for killing you with the weapon i spawned with?

cheese: see 'bullshit', 'cheap' or 'unbalanced'

of course, saying something is 'cheesy' implies risk, really it's the opponents fault if you succeed with whatever your doing...but whatever

OT: uh, the last thing I did in an FPS was split screen halo (already, my friend was accusing me of screen peeking even though I used the goddamn radar, but whatever) he yelled at me for using dual maulers, so I switched to dual spikers, then dual SMGs... then I just ran around with the carbine and kept killing him.

he called me cheap for everything except for the AR kills I got before I got the weapons listed above, and what's funny is he used the exact same set-ups after I dropped them, his excuse? "you were using them before"

same with fighting games, whenever I beat him for one round he calls me a tier-whore (even though the character I play is only b tier, and was b- tier when I picked them up). So I'm forced to hold back because if I win, he'll start crying like a little *****.

He's a fine enough friend though, I guess he just doesn't like to admit that I'm a better gamer than him. That would explain why he's always asking me to play RTS games with him, the only genre I'm not spectacular at.

If I got killed by someone using a highly creative and unorthodox strategy then I would praise them for their cleverness. Some people just cant handle losing I guess.

On my ele shammy when i still played wow I got raged at for using my pve set in pvp eventhough I could reliably 2-shot people with lava burst and a lightning bolt. My old guild leader used to rage when I would beat his pally in duels; he was convinced that tremor totem was op.

Wow that's extreme garbage. My friend is obsessed with MW2 and keeps going on about how tactical it is, yet you have morons jumping around with sniper rifles and instantly aiming precisely and killing with one shot. Or other morons jumping around with shotguns.

This is stuff you see in Serious Sam or Red Faction 2, it's retarded.

Everyone whines about EVERYWAY to play in that game. I got yelled at for using a shield, so I changed classes after 2 rounds of pissing the guy off, then he whined that I use the spaz shotgun. It's a joke, it's just plain stupid.

You know what game it takes skill to snipe in? Bad Company 2 because the bullets have travel time and gravity, it's not point and fucking click with quick scoping.

Man that video really made me annoyed.

I've located your problem. In the probably 300+ hours I've spent playing Team Fortress 2 on PC I could truly count the number of assholes with a mic on one hand.

I wish I could say the same. 12 hours and about as many assholes. Guy yelled at me for staying back to defend the second point out of 2, where I killed 4 or so people who would have won the game if I wasn't picking them off because they stand still in the very center of the control point. I don't care how little people we have on each team, if there's a good defense point for a sniper, I'll damn well take it.
Odd, the TF2 community is probably one of the best I have ever encountered.

I once got yelled at for "slacking" in WoW when I was completely new to DPS in instances - apparently, all the other guys have those talent trees and skill sequences hardwired into their genes.
Or, you know, we go out and research.

If you were max level, people expect you to have at least had a cursory glance or asked around as to what the best spec/rotations are. This is especially true when your group has evidently been to this instance a few times before and is interested in completing it as fast as possible for badges/drops/gold/whatever rather than being held back by a deadweight member.

Elitist? A bit.

However this is how it is. If you don't want to be told you're deadweight, you should probably be running with friends rather than PuGs.

Although they might ***** about you behind your back ololololololol.
actually, no. you should not have to study up on specs/rotation on a game
if you're a fresh lvl 80, then you will probably run a few normal lvl 80 instances first. this will not only improve your gear, but also improve your skills (the rotation you speak of).
you don't have to read up on how other people tell you to play the game. if people want a character that does exactly the same every instance "because it's the fastest", they should multibox.
Sorry, no. The second you step into an instance you're with 4+ other guys who're all relying on you to do your job as much as you're relying on them to do their job. I don't care if you feel it's "cruel" or "elitist" or whatever, by not doing literally ten minutes of research you are hamstringing and wasting the time of 4 other guys/gals.

Sounds pretty selfish to me.

Every time I got called a hacker in Counter Strike for killing someone

...ahh good stuff

Oh yah, and no scoping people with the sniper in TF2. Some people hate that for some reason
