Completing the objectives when aparently I wasn't supposed to. This is my third reason as to why I don't play online.
Which begs the question: Why the hell are these people playing an objective-based game mode if they want to play death-match?
Excactly. The ones that do no objectives but run around shooting people to up their frag count and boat about it. Those are the ones that seriously need to be punched in the face.
Reminds me of the time in WoW (around the time Burning Crusade came out, I can't remember if it was before or after the release date) we were in a Warsong Gulch match. Instead of capture the flag, two of our team were on one side of the map farming kills (or rather, trying), getting killed themselves then running to the same place and killing enemy players there again. They didn't help us win the match, so the 8 of us kept playing normally while those 2 kept messing around on the side of the map. Eventually, we ran into a bit of a difficult situation and the 2 idiots were like, "WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL US ABOUT WHAT THE ENEMY WAS DOING?!!!!!one".
Our response: "Because you didn't join the battleground chat channel."

Dumb. Pricks.

I played MW2 for about 3 weeks, and in that time I used commando, full sprint, and silent footsteps, and simply knifed the hell out of every enemy I could find. Needless to say, it was bitched about and I was called, to paraphrase, an untalented twat.

Ah, in WoW (I'm sorry, it was a long time ago!)
It was in Warsong Gulch, anyone know about the speed powerup that one person gets?
Well, Hunters have an Aspect of the Cheetah that lets them go a bit faster, so it's usually them, however, it was just me (A Death Knight) and a hunter with that aspect up. The gates went down, and I ran off to get it, the hunter was a bit slower and forgot to go straight away, so I managed to get the powerup, and spent the next 5 minutes being shouted out and swore at by this hunter.
The last insult was "I F!*@ed your mom last night!"
"My mum? Ah. Necrophilia."
10 seconds later *-Hunter- has left the game*

Sometimes mum jokes are funny.

When I used to play Counter-Strike a lot (hence my name) I was called everything from a prick to a total douche...one kid just went ballistic over his mic and just ran his mouth at 40 expletives a second or so. He had a funny sounding voice so I couldn't mute him, I was laughing way too hard.

The last time I played MW2. My team had a UAV up, and near me in a corner I saw an enemy just sitting there with my teammate. So, I did the logical thing and threw a knife into the back of his head. (yes, I could have used a gun, but thats not awesome.) Well apparently my teammate was having a nice little chit-chat with him, because I immediately got verbally assaulted and blocked into a tight corner. That is, until someone from the other team came and killed us both. I guess the other team didn't know we were talking.

Well then why was the enemy on the other team if they wanted to chat? Dumbasses!

Anyway, i made my deck to just bring out Dragon monsters a quick as possible, so on my 2nd turn, i was able to pull out 3 or 4 monsters over 2400 atk, and the kid ragequits and calls me a "Fucking cheater" and continued to curse me out.

Ah, i love rage quiters.

Talking with friends in a MW2 game lobby waiting for it to start is apparently one step too far. So seriously, we had just joined and one of our guys got in late so I said hi and immediately I hear "oh god shut the fuck up!".

I never get those comments because I'm always in a party chat. God I love the party chat.
God I can't wait until Sony gives the PS3 party chat.

OT: All my online play is done on the PS3 (Can't get my Xbox online and L4D2, the only PC game that I have at the moment that has online play, runs like shit on the PC I'm using right now so I often get kicked from every game I play), so those trash talkers will pull the trigger but there's no bullets to shoot. have all these bullets, but no gun to shoot them with.

Okay. So I haven't played XBL for a while so I decided to start playing again the other day and played MW2 not even the third match I played in I was yelled at. Not for being bad mind you. For ACTUALLY playing the game how your supposed to be by doing something some twelve year old kid decided to call HARD Scoping with my sniper. If you don't know what HARD Scoping is its when you zoom in and stay zoomed in. I didn't know that was against the law of the online gaming universe to use a weapon the way it was intended. LIKE SERIOUSLY the kid yelled at me called me a cheater and kept saying how much better at the game he was than me when every match I played against him he was always last on his team and I was near the top.

So here is the question I pose to you Escapist. What is the most outrageous thing you have ever been yelled at while playing a game online.
Oh thats because those kids think Sniping is suppose to be like this. They think its cool to quick scope.
A little off-topic but oh God, now I know what he meant.

Allow me to elaborate. When a friend of mine;s brother asked me what game I played a lot at the moment, I told him I played Team Fortress 2 and tended to use the sniper class. Then, clearly fresh from Modern Warfare, he asked me "Do you quickscope?". At the time, I was entirely baffled by what he meant since I hadn't actually played MW2; but now that I know, my desk now has a perfectly round dent in the shape of my head.

Even worse, while walking to school we heard some birds and, I shit you not, he asked me this "If you had an Intervention FMJ Stopping Power, would you quickscope those birds?". By that point, I at least had a vague idea of what he meant by quickscope and how it is impossible to do it in real life, so I had hold back a minor case of facepalm to be polite.

I once got yelled at for "slacking" in WoW when I was completely new to DPS in instances - apparently, all the other guys have those talent trees and skill sequences hardwired into their genes.
Or, you know, we go out and research.

If you were max level, people expect you to have at least had a cursory glance or asked around as to what the best spec/rotations are. This is especially true when your group has evidently been to this instance a few times before and is interested in completing it as fast as possible for badges/drops/gold/whatever rather than being held back by a deadweight member.

Elitist? A bit.

However this is how it is. If you don't want to be told you're deadweight, you should probably be running with friends rather than PuGs.

Although they might ***** about you behind your back ololololololol.
I'm pretty mellow when it comes to dungeon runs, in my opinion so long as we're not perpetually wiping on stuff I keep my trap shut and roll with whatever comes my way. I have my limits though and if I find myself on what should have been a max 30min dungeon run turning into 90min heads will start to roll and I will start telling you how to get your shit in gear. I give everyone the benefit of the doubt because lets face it, 5 mans at this stage of an expansion are "lol badges ftw" runs so we may not be playing to the best of our ability cause frankly playing at "meh" level does just fine.

There are 3 distinct times I remember getting bitched at for odd reasons while playing WoW. The first was back in BC when I'd hopped on board a pug Kara run. Bear in mind I played an enhancement shaman at the time(for those who don't know that's a melee spec on a hybrid class), we're working our way to maiden when I hear "Hey, *name* start healing or you're going to get booted from the raid." I had to take a moment or two for that to sink in."I'm....not healing spec'd?" I replied. "Wtf do you mean you're not healing spec'd? You're playing a shaman aren't you? Shamans heal not dps, so start healing or you're being booted!" Yeah, I didn't stick around very long after that...well, I did wait till the d-bag pulled maiden thinking I was going to heal him (funny how a hearth cast looks just like a healing cast for shaman eh?). There was much flaming of my name by this guy in trade chat...ah how sweet it was to watch his stupid be torn down by the hungry masses.

This next one is from my early days with the game back in vanilla. I had rolled a mage and just gotten a cloak from wailing caverns that is indeed a melee cloak. What can I say; I was rather ignorant back then. Some lvl 45 hunter thought he was being "helpful" by calling me a dumbass for wearing it. Naturally this didn't go over so well with my "douche O' meter" and I told him to piss off and mind his damn business. I was then treated to a very long lecture about how new players like me were ruining WoW. (amazing how that crap's been going on since vanilla eh?) I would have /ignored him...but I didn't know about the feature at the time.

The final tale comes from a low level player who, after deciding somewhere along the way as a lvl 70 it was my duty to run his stupid ass through dungeons on command, proceeded to piss and moan about it for hours on end in trade chat. After convincing him to discuss it with me in /tells I offered some advice for leveling his character, one being to just avoid dungeons as he leveled and save himself the headache. Well he must have been channeling Kanye West that day because after that all communications afterwords were in caps. So I /ignored him and proceeded then to hop from character to character and torment him till he cried uncle, surprisingly that only took 4 character hops.(not a very mature way to deal with it I know, but this fucker deserved it)

The moral of these stories? I'm not someone you ever want to piss of for trivial reasons, because I will end you. End, as in no body for the cops to find, no evidence to be collected, you will have no past or future, you as you exist in that moment will simply come to...an End...

That reminds me of the time I first quick scoped. I was an accident but it felt so awesome.

Too bad I could never do it again.

Oh **** those 'hard scope!' moaners, that fucking makes me laugh. Most people that play MW2 get really upset if you camp, hard scope, noob tube or generally play the game in a way that they don't like. Just tell them to shut up and mute em.
Next thing, they'll be calling you a 'n00b' for killing them at short range with a shotgun.

Riot shield + Scavenger + Throwing knives = Epic enemy team rage.
I quote.
"DUDE. WTF. WHY ARE YOU GLITCHING WITH THE RIOT SHIELD"
"Pardon?"
"YOU'RE USING THROWING KNIVES AND I CAN'T SHOOT YOUR FEET"
"That's unfortunate for you."
