I once got yelled at for "slacking" in WoW when I was completely new to DPS in instances - apparently, all the other guys have those talent trees and skill sequences hardwired into their genes.
Or, you know, we go out and research.
If you were max level, people expect you to have at least had a cursory glance or asked around as to what the best spec/rotations are. This is especially true when your group has evidently been to this instance a few times before and is interested in completing it as fast as possible for badges/drops/gold/whatever rather than being held back by a deadweight member.
Elitist? A bit.
However this is how it is. If you don't want to be told you're deadweight, you should probably be running with friends rather than PuGs.
Although they might ***** about you behind your back ololololololol.
I'm pretty mellow when it comes to dungeon runs, in my opinion so long as we're not perpetually wiping on stuff I keep my trap shut and roll with whatever comes my way. I have my limits though and if I find myself on what should have been a max 30min dungeon run turning into 90min heads will start to roll and I will start telling you how to get your shit in gear. I give everyone the benefit of the doubt because lets face it, 5 mans at this stage of an expansion are "lol badges ftw" runs so we may not be playing to the best of our ability cause frankly playing at "meh" level does just fine.
There are 3 distinct times I remember getting bitched at for odd reasons while playing WoW. The first was back in BC when I'd hopped on board a pug Kara run. Bear in mind I played an enhancement shaman at the time(for those who don't know that's a melee spec on a hybrid class), we're working our way to maiden when I hear "Hey, *name* start healing or you're going to get booted from the raid." I had to take a moment or two for that to sink in."I'm....not healing spec'd?" I replied. "Wtf do you mean you're not healing spec'd? You're playing a shaman aren't you? Shamans heal not dps, so start healing or you're being booted!" Yeah, I didn't stick around very long after that...well, I did wait till the d-bag pulled maiden thinking I was going to heal him (funny how a hearth cast looks just like a healing cast for shaman eh?). There was much flaming of my name by this guy in trade chat...ah how sweet it was to watch his stupid be torn down by the hungry masses.
This next one is from my early days with the game back in vanilla. I had rolled a mage and just gotten a cloak from wailing caverns that is indeed a melee cloak. What can I say; I was rather ignorant back then. Some lvl 45 hunter thought he was being "helpful" by calling me a dumbass for wearing it. Naturally this didn't go over so well with my "douche O' meter" and I told him to piss off and mind his damn business. I was then treated to a very long lecture about how new players like me were ruining WoW. (amazing how that crap's been going on since vanilla eh?) I would have /ignored him...but I didn't know about the feature at the time.
The final tale comes from a low level player who, after deciding somewhere along the way as a lvl 70 it was my duty to run his stupid ass through dungeons on command, proceeded to piss and moan about it for hours on end in trade chat. After convincing him to discuss it with me in /tells I offered some advice for leveling his character, one being to just avoid dungeons as he leveled and save himself the headache. Well he must have been channeling Kanye West that day because after that all communications afterwords were in caps. So I /ignored him and proceeded then to hop from character to character and torment him till he cried uncle, surprisingly that only took 4 character hops.(not a very mature way to deal with it I know, but this fucker deserved it)
The moral of these stories? I'm not someone you ever want to piss of for trivial reasons, because I will end you.
End, as in no body for the cops to find, no evidence to be collected, you will have no past or future, you as you exist in that moment will simply come to...an End...
