In my opinion, there is little to no reason to get a One over a PS4 unless you're a HARDCORE MS fan. The PS4 will probably have better games, and it's more powerful, while being cheaper. The One will also flop in the UK, at least at launch, because of the high price tag and the sponsorship with the NFL (I don't think too many people in the UK give a toss about American football). What do you think?

Weeeell, and bear in mind I'm speaking as someone who is getting their paws on a PS4 and am therefore speaking as Devil's Advocate, I suspect that Microsoft is doing the same thing that EA did with Dead Space 3; in other words, they're trying to broaden the net, and make their product more appealing to more people, rather than focusing on 'just' catering to gamers. The thing is, of course, this might fail horribly since the casual market is still likely to look at the One as 'just' a game console, no matter how eager Microsoft has been to insist on its flexibility and multimedia muscle. Even if it DOES succeed and people buy the console for TV, Skype, Football, it won't help the game Publishers, cause it's unlikely that sort of audience will buy anything but Just Dance 2014. =P We could be looking at the next Wii when it comes to drawing in a casual gaming market.

If you were a gamer, I suppose it might appeal if you didn't have a smartphone, or a tablet, or a SmartTV, or a computer, because some of the features might actually be ones you don't already have. The fact that I have three of the four on that list has pretty much removed any interest in getting the One as anything but an Exclusives platform in a couple of years.

That being said, yes, the One is still getting wrecked in Amazon U.K.'s preorders. xP

Both consoles are looking to be crappy.

The only reason I could fathom to get a PS3 was for the free online and handful of exclusives that appealed to me. They've removed the free online portion with PS4.

I'm going to stick with PC gaming. More expesnive upfront, but when you account the 400+ dollars you'll pay just to play your games online for consoles, PCs are far more valuable, and can in some instances be cheaper to upgrade.

Lots of good exclusives, good experiences with the 360, TV functionality and Kinect are the key reasons I am getting an Xbox One before a PS4.

Also I am more comfortable with Xbox controllers and I get to keep my gamer score, but those aren't really what I would call deciding factors so much as additional benefits.

And as icing on the cake I think more of the "hardcore" elitist crowd won't get an Xbox on principle so I won't have to deal with them until I pick up my PS4.

Killer Instinct?

but then I think of everything all the reasons not to and I sigh as a tear trickles down my cheek when I then know I will never be able to play that game...

I've actually never even had a PS3 or 360, but I am planning on getting a PS4.

When I first watched E3, and they started revealing all that stuff about the Xbox One (Always online DRM, no used games and etc), I decided, right then and there, that I wasn't going to get it. Why? Because I have a heavily limited, sub-par access to internet. I believe that M$ has changed their stance on the always-online DRM recently, however, but that's not going to win my trust back.

Still though, I prefer a PC to any console, but that's just me. Controllers feel icky and uncomfortable in my hands.

I think they're both going to be quite crap honestly, but if I get an Xbox One (still undecided), it'll likely be for the exclusives and the fact that I generally trust Microsoft more than Sony, aside from the fact that Microsoft tries to protect it's users from outside threats and try and usually succeed to keep it's servers up at all times.

Probably the biggest reason for my distrust of Sony is that innovation to them is a cruel and foreign concept, just increasing the PS3's capabilities, adding some Xbox 360 features and a completely useless share button is NOT innovative. Another thing is Sony's marketing strategy:

"Hey, at least we're not Microsoft!"

Seriously even if Microsoft has done bad things, at least they aren't the smug arrogant people at Sony. And before anyone says that Microsoft would do the same thing if the tables were turned, sure, maybe they would but they have enough material now ("Hey Sony, heard you're bringing in Party Chat, just lettin' you know that we've had that for EIGHT YEARS") to poke fun at Sony.

I'm not sure. But then again if you asked me a month ago I was planning on buying it. Not for any logical reasons it seemed. I was fooling myself into believing that the DRM and the always on Kinect didn't matter and telling myself that I didn't need used games as college debt and my stack of used games stare at me from the corner. So now its the PS4 for me, even though the steam sale and a renewed interest in computing has me reconsidering that now too. Christ I'm such a flip-flopping nancy.

The exclusives, that's pretty much the sole motivation for anyone to buy an XBone. Considering games account for roughly 80-90% of a consoles final appeal, the exclusives may be enough for some people.

The reason to get an XBO is the exclusive titles if you can't live wihtout them. Also, if you're really pro-kinect games, this should be a better setup.

Make no mistake, the system will be fun, the games will be great. That's not going to change. It's just that the ps4 is better in so many ways (including games in my opinion). So a better question about be reasons to get an XBO over a ps4.

Just because you don't like Halo or Gears of War or the other MS titles doesn't mean other gamers don't love them. I'm personally a little bored of them. Currently, I am only sad that I'll miss Quantum Break if it's as good as it appears to be. To be honest, the ps4 only has about 4 or 5 that I'm excited about. But that's more than 1. Even Killzone looks good this time around.

Beyond that, nothing else the XBO has does it for me. But I can't dismiss how other's tastes may vary.

I've seen this sentiment a few places now, and I really don't get it. Stronger hardware has been the primary benefit of pretty much every new console in the history of the industry. What exactly are you expecting from these machines?

Probably the biggest reason for my distrust of Sony is that innovation to them is a cruel and foreign concept, just increasing the PS3's capabilities, adding some Xbox 360 features and a completely useless share button is NOT innovative.
But that's what 99% of new consoles are, and Microsoft has been no different. Their only innovations for Xbone were a bunch of restrictive licensing models designed to reduce consumer choice and put more money in the pockets of their publishing partners. Unless you want to count the television features, which are simply window dressing laid over existing cable television features.

Another thing is Sony's marketing strategy:

"Hey, at least we're not Microsoft!"

Seriously even if Microsoft has done bad things, at least they aren't the smug arrogant people at Sony.
This sounds like when people got mad at Al Gore for rolling his eyes at George W. Bush during their debates. Never mind the fact that GWB was being a complete idiot. If someone or some company does incredibly stupid shit, their competitors should absolutely capitalize on it. Deriding their opportunism as "arrogant" seems strangely defensive of Microsoft - at a time when they least deserve anyone's loyalty.

And before anyone says that Microsoft would do the same thing if the tables were turned, sure, maybe they would but they have enough material now ("Hey Sony, heard you're bringing in Party Chat, just lettin' you know that we've had that for EIGHT YEARS") to poke fun at Sony.
If MS thought they could return the favor, they absolutely would do so. And if the complaints were valid, I'd entertain them, too.

OP: the only good reason I can think to buy an Xbone is exclusives. If you absolutely must have one of their exclusives, and you can't wait 6-12 months for it to land on PC or PS4 (a large chunk of them will go this route), I guess you have no choice but to buy one. I'll never take that plunge because there are more than enough games to play everywhere else and I can't support Microsoft's ideology towards consumers and indie devs.

Don't count out the Xbox One yet, it isn't dead and buried yet and well there is always america who seems to be more xbox loving. Even though yeah it seems like this time Microsoft screwed the pooch. Still after their 180 their pre-orders have risen again so. I don't count them out!

But personally, right now? The PS4 draws me more, in part because yes I am european. Guess what all that television stuff is worthless to me. The services that the USA gets on the Xbox One do NOTHING in europe. And yeah as european we have things called coffee tables that doesn't really works with the Kinect!

I want to game, it is that simple, games! I will make my choice what to buy based upon the games I want to play.

I haven't pre-ordered any of these. Hell I even keep open the option of the WiiU!

Well I'm interested in some of the exclusives. Dead Rising 3, Sunset Overdrive, D4, Quantum Break, and since I don't PC game, Titanfall and Project Spark too.

I'm also interested in the PS4 exclusives as well, so I'll be getting that as well!

Who would've thought, eh? Games are the reasons people buy consoles!?

Well Sunset OverDrive looks interesting (Wasn't Insomniac owned by Sony though? What happened?)
Dead Rising 1 and 2 were great, so while what they showed at E3 might not look that interesting, I still would like to think it will be good.
I'm going to wait and see with both consoles this generation. I'll probably give it a year, or wait till the first price drop.

The only real reason I can see is that you'd like to own a few of those exclusives that frankly don't look very good. I mean, Dead Rising is the only one that remotely interests me, and it looks like they took out everything that made Dead Rising one and dose great, so, what's the point?

Halo is still the same two weapon alien pew pew shooter it's always been and always will be. I enjoy the games but hardly see them as worth the hassle of owning such a shitty console, especially since they Call of Dutyfied Halo 4. I guess if you're really willing to get it for all the stupid multimedia stuff that comes with it, oh boy, Skype calls! Too bad everything else I own can do that!

I don't give one shit about football, and people in the UK aren't even going to get that stuff, so that point is rendered moot.

I guess if you want a more expensive, weaker, and more offensive piece of hardware?

So, if you hate yourself and the industry I guess.
