Ignore the people who say Clannad and K-On. SO BORING AND GENERIC!

If you want harmless anime to show to your mum, try I"s Pure, Eiken, or Seikon no Qwaser.

show her a slice of life anime like Azumanga Daioh also what,s Wagnaria I,m at school right now and I,m afraid it,s something NSFW.
also Ghost in the Shell although that,s some what deeper and sometimes feature fanservice (artistic nudity)

PS
Gundam 0080 if she likes sci-fi it has a strong anti war message.

It's slice-of-life comedy about working in a restaurant. I haven't seen it, but I suspect it's the kind of show with fairly regular fanservice, which is probably what his mom saw. Not hentai or anything like that though.

Edit: BTW, Anime News Network has an encyclopedia of anime that you can search in the future if you're worried about seeing something you regret.

Dance in the Vampire Bund, it has a bit of slow start but very well rounded with lots of violence, romace, and comedy.
also Demon King Daimao was awsome, it was really short tho (12 episodes) and has some some big athiest undertones and are pretty suprising from an anime but does nt take anything away from its silly ness
Yeah good plan. "Look no tentacle rape! Just a guy fucking a little girl!"

How about Baccano! and Durarara!!?

And although I've not seen it yet (hoping to soon), Gungrave is supposed to be pretty good.

They all involve gangs/mafia, interesting characters, action and good stories. No tentacle rape!

There is Elfen Lied too, but even though there's no tentacle rape, there is a lot of nudity and violence.

It's sad that no one mentioned the boxing anime Hajime no Ippo...
I hear it's great, but I'm skeptical about sports anime as a rule. How is it in terms of appeal to an audience who isn't into boxing or sports in general?

Wait...
Is Wagnaria!! another name for Working!!?
Because I'm trying to watch Working!! right now, and I'm really not expecting any tentacles to feature.

Well, in any case.
Anime you can show your mom:
Grave of the fireflies (Made my mom cry)
5 centimeters per second
Howl's moving castle
Princess Mononoke
Death note
Angel beats
Steins;gate
Now and then, here and there
Usagi drop
Nichijou (although she won't understand shit)
Azumanga daioh
Serial experiments Lain
Mawaru penguindrum
Clannad (not necessarily that good for showing your mom, but watch it. Seriously. Fuck all that other shit, watch Clannad. Ignore what that Nihilism guy says, I''s pure is shit. I couldn't even finish watching it. And this is coming from the person who managed to finish Kodomo no Jikan.)

This seen rather vague since there are plenty of animes that got nothing to do with tentacle rape or do you mean fan services?
I pretty much agree what everyone above me had suggested.

Could always try One Piece, 0 deaths, little blood, easy to follow, easy going comedy, no sex, no relationships (of a physical nature) in the main characters.

EDIT: Ok Zero deaths within the main story, but the flashbacks contain at least one person dieing.

As someone with a father sort of like this, (though he at least never chewed me out for it, but made an effort to watch with me if I had something I really wanted to show him) the ones I remember him actually sort of liking were Cowboy Bebop and Tokyo Godfathers. Millennium Actress is quite lovely, but some might find it a bit confusing to follow. Summer Wars was great fun too, with a nice family oriented kind of story and fun adventure.

Getting more into the realm of a bit more violent, Jin-Roh is a bit bloody, but is drawn really realistically and doesn't have the standard anime fanservicy pandering (if I recall right), so that could be a good one. I adore Monster as well; great suspense thriller to me, but it's also a 74 episode commitment.

That's what I got off the top of my head.

Who told you that? The creator is on record saying that it's a nonsense word he used as the title of the series because it "sounded American." Although Furi Kuri is an accurate transliteration of how someone from Japan would pronounce it; this is because there is no distinction between L and R in the Japanese language; both letters represent a sound that's somewhere between an L and a D, or like a rolled Spanish R that stops after the first flip of the tongue.
Interesting, been a while since I watched FLCL and did my post-watch wiki so I don't remember where I heard that.

My Neighbour Totoro!
or
Spirited Away.
or
Just about any Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki movie ever made. Parents love them, and they're generally a great way to get into Anime.

It's like most of you are just throwing out your favorite anime that lacks tentacle rape, without regard to the fact that he said it's for his mom.

Probably best to go with a movie. I'd say Spirited Away or Howl's Moving Castle. If for some reason your set on showing her a series rather then a movie, I'd go with Kino's Journey or Mushi-shi. Maybe Baccano! if your mom enjoys Gangster movies and doesn't mind fantasy/sci-fi too much.
