I really hope Rush isn't that stupid and is just playing a character or something.

Nobody... NOBODY should ever be that hopelessly stupid.

I have to ask, are we sure his audience is the one that agrees with him? I subscribe to the theory his bread and butter are liberals that listen to his show just to rage against it.

Cause think about it, if people listened to who they agree with politcally then why hasn't there been a successful Liberal talk radio program? Cause people are more attracted to negativity.

I'm sure this was just a calculated plot by Rush to get his name back in the media. He's a brilliant self-promoter and bullshit artist.
I think there's certainly a proportion of his audience who fits your theory, but I think there's a larger proportion who are true believers. I don't have hard data to back that up, but anecdotally I've seen enough folks who feel "Rush is right" to stick with my earlier point.

As far as a successful Liberal radio program, how about NPR? Not the same format, but certainly a good place for more progressive news and opinion, no?
correct me if I'm wrong but isn't NPR publicly funded?

Did anyone actually click through to the transcript on his website? And, y'know, actually read what Rush said in context? He wasn't positing the idea that the character of Bane was created as a representative of Romney. He was commenting on a prior discussion elsewhere that people may associate the character Bane with Romney, and whether or not this was intentional:

"And there's now a discussion out there as to whether or not this is purposeful and whether or not it will influence voters.... There are some people who think it'll work. Others think you're really underestimating the American people to think that will work."

I suppose it's a lot more fun to just fly off the handle and believe any stupid thing we hear about people we don't like. Same can be said for Limbaugh fanatics as for his haters.

Partially yes, but the largest proportion of their funding comes from individuals. [http://www.npr.org/about/aboutnpr/publicradiofinances.html]

Come on guys, Rush may be a lot of things, but he's not an idiot. He's a hate-monger and he knows exactly what he's doing.

Okay, seriously? The character of Bane was already named that! *SIGH* There are not enough face palms in the world for this...

Wow, that guy sucks at conspiracy theories. Why not just say they chose Bane as the villain to hurt Romney? That would still be pretty stupid but at least it´s not outright impossible. Why would he claim they named him when that´s disproven by typing "Bane" into google?

This is the dumbest thing I've heard this year hands down. Bane has been a batman villain for probably a decade.

This sounds like something Stephen Colbert would have said. Although it dose help me understand the people who don't realize Stephen Colbert is a satire.
"Anderson Cooper gay? Come on, if that man is gay, then I'm secretly a liberal." -- Stephen Colbert

See? There's no way Cooper is gay, because that would mean...oh.

More seriously though, it would be a degree less stupid to say that the Obama administration is capitalizing on the Batman film as a time to discuss Bain. I personally believe this to be slightly true, but it's not like the comparison doesn't slightly fit.

This is simply ridiculous, had he even bothered to look into anything about this? Bane has been around since the 1990's. Their is no excuse for this level of ignorance when making official statements such as these. Republicans, in the future, please bother to Google your ridiculous claims before you say them out loud...

It's not an unreasonable bit of gibberish to come out with when you remember that most of Rush's listeners don't have a broad pop cultural awareness and are likely to take him at his word. That, and "Rush Limbaugh" is now associated with "Dark Knight Rises" on google searches because of people talking about this, and that just might get him a few more listeners- even "ironic" ones.

It's like letting that BNP guy go on Question Time- he was hated by the audience and destroyed by the other panelists, but if one person out of every ten thousand watching the show actually listens to him, then it's still a win for the bad guys.

The best way to defeat him is to stop running articles about his drivel and just ignore him.

-Nick

EDIT: yes, I'm aware of the irony of mentioning both the name of the chap and the name of the film in my post. It's something to think about for next time.

suggesting it might be intentional when the movie was no doubt written way before romney was even in the primaries is insane in and of itself. There is no chance in hell it was intentional, and it's purposely misleading to suggest otherwise.

As stupid as what Rush said sounds, I actually heard somebody draw a comparison between the two a few days ago...and now it just seems ironic instead of stupid.

This just in, Rush Limbaugh lives on attention and mentioning his name makes him stronger. Quick, everyone forget about old whats-his-name and maybe he'll go away!
