I didn't even think Russia had emos in the country. Well, that is a shocker.
Good thing they are trying to ban it. Another step forwards to a world without whiny pansies.
It's a good attempt, but futile, they will still be sulking in the corners and dark alleyways.. But hey, Russia's pulled off some crazy things before.

Emo's suck and I hope they enforce this law with a flamethrower so the Emo's get the painful death the pretend to want so badly.

They should ban emo culture in those kinda countries, this is not to offend but, Russia is a very depressing country already, they don't need the added pressure to put a gun between their teeth

You know, it took a few centuries and a couple of bloody regime changes, but Russia FINALLY has it's priorities right.

Bravo, Comrades. Bravo.

Three reasons why banning emo in Russia is a terrible idea:

1. You're giving them attention. Always a mistake, especially where emos are concerned. Emos thrive on attention and feeling persecuted, it validates their emo feelings. Emo was slowly dying of it's own accord anyway (gradually subsuming into the "scene" look and also the new electro culture) until the UK and Russia (not to mention Mexico) pulled these little stunts. Now Emo is back and bigger than ever, and will probably never completely die. The old adage "if you hate something, ignore it and it will go away eventually" applies here.

2. Anyone who hates emo needs to be mindful of what emo replaced - nu-metal. The commercial rise of emo can be directly correlated to the commercial failure of nu-metal. Before we had kids in black clothes with silly fringes and sleeve tattoos paid for on dad's credit card, we had ugly guys with messy dreadlocks pretending to be gangsta rappers over the worst, most un-funky funk/metal hybrids imaginable. Nu-metal is the sound of teenagers trying to be something that they're not - bad-ass rappers. Emo is, conversely, the sound of teenagers being exactly what they are - whiny, annoying, mollycoddled and depressed. So even though it's irritating, at least emo is HONEST, something nu-metal never was. I know at the end of the day, as much as I hate My Chemical Romance, I'd rather listen to that than Limp Bizkit.

3. This is RUSSIA we're talking about folks. I mean, come on. If you had to live in that country you'd probably be pretty emo about it too.

I think we all know who the real victims are, angry, smoking, goths.

And yes, banning emo culture will only increase their numbers in just about every way possible, but atleast Russia has the "fellas" to be bold enough to stand up to a bunch of depressed, self-(pain-)inflicting teens.

An excuse to use this quote:

BlindTom said:
Emo is what you do when you're ashamed of how easy your life is. You invent problems that sparkle poignantly in the rain that falls upon your spoilt middle class soul.
I'm pretty sure BlindTom said that though I may be wrong, need confirmation.

Anyway this is a great idea.

Please. Someone who is truly depressed or suicidal doesn't make a habit of telling and/or showing people the way the stereotypical emo kid does. People who have real problems don't usually make them known.

Emo kids just give the people who do have cutting/suicide problems, or suffer from depression, wear black, have piercings, are antisocial, have real problems, etc, look bad.
Personally, what a person likes as far as the occult and mythology, shouldn't classified them as emo or goth either.

Emo kids just want to be seen as extreme, making those that actually have extreme problems be shunned by 'normal' people who could help them or simply go unnoticed until it's too late.

Being a true 'emo' isn't a fad, it's a lifestyle that a person lives with, usually beyond their control. The kids who glorify the 'emo' culture have no idea what it's actually about and rarely have any real problems in/with their life or a natural mentality for the lifestyle.
It's the same thing as to what makes a person truly 'punk' or not. Most people aren't what they claim to be with that lifestyle either.

Banning clothes is silly, banning ridiculous fringes however is a godsend.

Can't they just ban My Chemical Romance on the grounds that they're shit rather than them encouraging suicide?

Can't we just continue to shout in their faces "Cheer the fuck up!"?

This is a good thing but I can't help but think indy culture is much more annoying. Seriously who else has this? You're walking down a street, you see someone in tight jeans with long blond hair walking away from you, they turn around, it's a man. I can't shake the sick feeling I get for days.

'Emo' is a subculture of 'Scene'.'

Good job though, Russia. As of late I really dislike Emos.

Screw that I expected some emo jokes in here.

I know it is wrong, and I know I should be against banning something for those ridiculous reasons, but common its emo. They have swarmed Seattle.

I don't even know what the fuck an emo is anymore seeing how people use it so often to mean attention-whoring teenager and you can't really "ban" those. To "ban" emo means banning music, clothing articles, piercings, and whatnots.

And that's just stupid.
