The underground prison in Silent Hill 2 and the asylum in Indigo Prophecy, like many people said. Shudders.

Aliens Vs Predator 2. Every Campaign and especially this one bit near the end of the Predator's one.

You barely escape a bunch of Aliens in this underground series of Tunnels. You hop outside and hear a terriifying screech and a bunch of more Aliens pop up. It's not dead for you realize the same scream keeps popping up again and again.

Now as you're walking across this narrow platform thing, you hear it once more and you're greeted by a Predalen extremely close to you. It's a shame I wasted my Plasma Caster on it for I got facehugged. I just clicked fire as many times as possible damn it! Even worse is that it brought friends!

I know it's been said before, but the Ravenholm level in Half Life 2 was pretty freaky. Not the scariest one, but I have something to say about it. You see, I tend to play games with the sound off, typically because I don't want to disturb my family when playing them. I heard how scary that level was, and I was very disappointed when I played through it. However, I got a really nice pair of headphones and decided to play through it again. It was like I was playing a completely different game. The slow taps and running sounds throughout the level, the pieces of scripture that you can barely make out, the cries of the fast zombie, and the death gurgles of the zombies themselves all became horrifying.
The scariest part was listening to the headcrab zombies after they were set on fire, because their cries of death seemed so real. After a while, I realized that a fully conscious human was still in this monstrosity, and it was burning alive and feeling all of the pain. The fridge horror that I was causing somebody who was already in immense pain to slowly be burned alive totally threw me for a loop.
It seems to me that having proper sound effects can really make or break a scary or unnerving game sequence.

That being said, the scariest one that I can think of was dealing with the Regenerators in Resident Evil 4. God, that level took me ages to get through because I kept on having to pause the game just to regain control.

Let's pull out a fun little mind-fork called The White Chamber.

Indie game by a group who's gone their seperate ways by now called Studio Trophis. Starts out with you in a coffin, goes downhill from there.

I swear, that corridor still creeps me out. You'll know if you play (or have played) the game
Yes. Yes I do know.

BLARGH.

"I only wanted to help him..." MOST TERRIFYING LINE EVAR.

The intro to Bioshock, the scene with the Splicer killing that guy and the Tutorial part.

I played that when I was 12 or 13 and it scared the fuck out of me so badly I actually stopped playing until like a few years later.

In Condemned: Criminal Origins when you open that locker and find the "dead guy". Your partner tells you she needs a close-up of him. When you get really close his eyes open and he grabs you. I literally dropped the controller when that happened.

That Thief came on Five, I was truly not expecting it, and I absolutely shat myself!

I wasn't looking, waiting for dogs and my friend screamed (I was doing 2 player). I turned around and he was gone... Then I sat in a corner freaked out, he came round the corner. I turned to run but he got me and I shit bricks :p

Well the Manicans in the first Condemned game put the freak into me BUT i have to go all the way back to the first Silent Hill with Lisa's final scene it's not scary but those of you who have seen it and remember what i am talking about I'm sure you will agree with me it is quite unnerving especially if you are hitting that point at about midnight.

I've been playing Red Dead Redemption a lot lately, and some of the shit is just creepy. I gathered a bouquet of flowers for this kindly old man's wife. They had been married for 50 years, and he wanted to do something special for her. I gather the bouquet and give it to him. He asks me inside for some tea. When I get in there, his wife his a decaying corpse. No eyes in the eye sockets. And they guy kept treating her as if she was alive. Said she wanted to drive in an automobile. I actually felt pity for the old man, but was nonetheless disturbed.

The 'Come Fly With Me' mission in "Fallout: New Vegas". I know, most of it wasn't scary; but at one point I was running around the building hearing the ghouls roar and I had no idea where they were, quite scary. Boy, was I mashing on that V.A.T.S. button.

The only time a game ever had me scared was the first time I was playing Doom (twas a wee lad at the time though). The noises those monsters make scared me quite a bit at that age. Nowadays the noises make me excited since it means there is something to murder.

No recent games have really gotten under my skin. Jump out startles are NOT scary.

Well, besides going through Bloodsucker territory at night while playing STALKER, defiantly Sunset House from Fable 3. I literally did all of my businesses there and sworn to never go back.

Oh, and something most people probably missed in Half-Life 2: there is a creepy baby doll in an elevator at some point. I haven't played the game in a while, so I forget exactly where, but it is so fucking creepy. I hate dolls so goddamn much...

The second level of Vampire the Masquerade. Where you've got to go through that mansion. Holy fuckin shit. Here I was playing a nice fun vampire game and then you go and spoil it by making my bowels empty themselves all over the floor. On my second play through I had to turn the sound off and put my own music on.
This, Insomnia and, I know this is gonna sound wierd but, the opening sequence in Kingdom Hearts. Y'know where your walking on the stained glass floor. The music, the atmosphere, the isolation. Add a disconnected voice asking you a bunch of ,seemingly, strange and random questions...I was a little unhinged. I was walking into this expecting to see Squall and Mickey duking it out and I...got this. To be honest I found that bit where your on the island getting quizzed to be all the more creepy considering what happened before. Plus, your first fight with a Darkside Heartless is not something you forget.

Shame KH2 wasn't really able to do the same.

Oh, dear God, this. I'll never be able to forget the first underground section, where a Poltergeist sneaked up behind me and scared the living SHIT out of me.

I'm sure this must have come up here before, but most of the most unsettling sequences I've ever experienced in a game were actually in Heavy Rain. For all its shortcomings, the scene where I had to chop off my own finger had a viscerally unsettling, physically unsettling effect on me. I could hardly watch the screen, and *I* was the one controlling the action!

Also the time I lost the fight with the scary mad doctor dude and he started taking a drill to my...

*shudder*
