im terrible with scary games and it often ends in me throwing the pad to my freind and walking out of the room shouting fuck that. But i agree with condemned the end had me shouting and screaming more than brad from 4pp and that man will scream at anything.

A sidednote im also very much scared by fallout 3 as all the ghouls on my game seem to have supreme sneaking powers and only screech when their a few inches away prompting me to spin around and get a faceful of zombie, not matter how many times it happens those sneaky bastards always scare me.

Thief: Deadly Shadows had a surprisingly scary level, it was amazing.

Most scary games just startle the crap outta me.

Sillent Hill 3. Yep, it was scarier than 2. Yep, it was the scariest videogame experience ever for me. Silent Hill 2 and 4 were very scary aswell. Aside from that, I've never found any other film or game scary. I'm hard to scare. *flex*

Alien vs Predator for the Atari Jaguar.

The atmosphere alone would send a chill down your spine, it's not exactly the game you want to play by yourself, at midnight and when you're about 6 years old.

That game has scarred me for life.

Oh yeah, Condemned was quite scary. The second game was bullocks, the only scary part in the whole game was the silent mannequins that follow you when you aren't looking. The bear was pretty scary, but in a different way.

i bought bioshock under the pretence that it would scare the hell out of me but the only place that really really creeped my out was when you pick up the shotgun i think and then you just get raped from everywhere. so im gonna go with F.E.A.R. it got to the point that i couldn't play that on my own and i had to have music playing over the game so i couldn't hear alma being all creepy...
i was disapointed that Project Origin wasn't as scary as the first F.E.A.R. though... maybe thats just me being older and more hardened though :p

Oh wait, RE4 scared the crap out of me. I'd watch it and feel fine, maybe jump a little, but when I play I completely freak out.
The only thing scary in that game was the Regenerators.
Totally agree, it would be like when you walk into a dark crowded area and here it coming but don't see it until the last few seconds before it grabs you

I don't play many horror games, but the first game that really scared me was Paper Mario.
I only wish I was kidding.

Fatal Frame 2, Silent Hill 2 and System Shock 2 are mild compared to Penumbra.

Penumbra made me believe I wasn't playing a game at one stage.
I would love to see valve take penumbra and polish it into a mind-blowing experience.

The scariest game I've played is Swedish game called "Myulk". It was released in 1997 and if I played it for the first time today I probably won't find it scary. Though, I played it the first time when I was 4 years old and back then I thought it was scary as hell. 12 years later I still find it scary as hell.

Half-Life 1 gives me chills too. I HATE Xen!

I know I'm going to get laughed at for this but I'd have to say Left 4 Dead.

Playing it at night, alone, in a darkened room was bad enough, but then a loud screetch outside made me leave my chair (and my skin) behind go to bed.

It was the first time I'd actually been scared shitless by any game, I'v played the likes of F.E.A.R and Dead Space and I can honestly say that they didn't scare me at all. But the suspense that was built up in Left 4 Dead following all 3 of my team mates being killed was enough to make me vow to only play the game during the day.
The first time I played L4D, the atmosphere was awesome. The final climax event made my heart race...too bad it all loses it's luster later. :(
It's got a very clever way of building suspense where absolutely nothing happens for a very long time, then you get round a corner and there are a million infected there and you immediately get puked on by a boomer. It really makes you jump. But I don't get people who just find 'Splatter horror' scary, even though I'm not squeamish in the least, I still can't bring myself to be scared by large amounts of gore. That's basically all Dead Space did.

I have to be honest and say that Grabbed by the Ghoulies made me jump a few times with random things popping out of kitchen or laundry appliances just when you think you're done with a room.

That game was a hell of a lot of fun. Wish they'd make a sequel.
