"We don't go to Ravenholm" and also, the first time I played Bioshock... just about everything in rapture scared the hell out of me. For some reason Portal really got to me too, I think it was the "rat-mans" nest, and the whole feeling of wrongness... *shivers*

Some bits of Bioshock, like when I discovered that the plaster models bleed when you hit them.

Also, occasional moments in L4D, but that was mostly when the NPCs worked out how to exit a room just as I entered it.

Okay, I know it may sound weird to some people but Silent Hill 4 when your in the First Person Perspective. It get's even creepier the farther you get into the game because weird stuff keeps happening in the apartment.

Also when you look in the peephole every so often in your door and see the bloody hand prints growing -shivers-

Oh and the ghosts in Silent Hll 4. The way they move freaks me out, like being dragged in the air.

I'm very bad at scary moments in games. Don't cope very well with them at all.
That being said i just recently ventured into Rapture and playing Bioshock.
Stumbled upon a shotgun out in the open and when i grabbed it, the lights just shut off....had to pause the game for a second then
Yes, I also had that. Although the shotgun being in a circle of light was kinda ringing alarm bells.

I think the scariest part of bioshock was when you crawled into the freezer to obtain a certain tonic, which, when picked up, made mist crawl across the room.
Turn around to face a Splicer wearing an apron with blood and a wrench right in your face.

That really got me.

This one section in Metal Gear Solid 1, when Otacon screams at you through the through the Codec when he realizes something when you're in the elevator.

He comes right up to the screen thing and looks heaps demonic or something i dunno, but it always scared me haha.

This. I had no idea what I was walking in to. The lights only made it worse...
Holy shit, agreed. That level sounds hilarious on paper- "Hey, lets throw all the tragedy into this place we can- Orphanage! Insane Asylum! now lets burn it down!", but it's actually the most terrifying level ever.

For me it was Silent hill Shattered memories:

I was playing the game for my GF and her sister because they are both big fans of Silent Hill but could never play because they don't have any of those electrical pulses in their brains that help use fingers to push buttons... Or something...

It was in the beginning of the game.. I got passed all the cutscenes, too the awkward lil quiz and all that jazz...

Considering there's usually never anything scary in the beginning of games, I was having fun with this.. I was spamming the A button that caused your character to call out for his daughter for that segment, just to annoy the ladies :p, then everytime I opened up a door, I would do so in a slow fashion, peek in and do a lil shriek and close the door...

My Gf said.. "It's all fun and games till something ends up peeking at you from the other side of the door.." We all had a laugh at the thought... Goofing around, checking stuff out, and exploring... We finally make it to the first nightmare segment...

To make a long story short, as I began running through the buildings... I was about to push my way through a door, and just so happened one of those creatures poked it's head out and grabbed me..

It scared the shit out of me so bad I screamed like a lil girl LOL.

That's what I get for messing around! xD

The first time a headcrab jumps you in an air vent in Half-Life 1.
And EVERY.
SINGLE.
BLASTED.
TIME.
AFTER.
THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also fast zombies in HL2, and that bit in Ep2 where you have to crawl thru a hole, and you can hear the poison zombie breathing. I waited at that hole for like ten minutes before going in.

And the bits in the resident evil games where people speak are pretty atrociously scary too.

the first F.E.A.R. game, also any AVP game when you're a marine and it's dark and your fucking motion sensor goes off (so all the time). although that's more tense then outright scary?
Im with clutch-Monkey on this one, i couldn't go down a ladder after Alma popped up that 1 time without my sphincter clenching involuntary. And playing as a marine in AVP freaked me out too. But as an Alien i loved hunting marines.
The Ending of FEAR 2 was pretty scary as well. Well maybe more disgusting then scary, Alma grew up to be a freaky *****.
Yet i dind't find Bioshock that scary at all, sure there are some of those shock moments when a splicer jumps you, but thats about it.

FEAR 2 had it's moments but seemed a lot more contrived? idk. but yeah had some jumpy moments in bioshock but suspense and atmosphere, FEAR and AVP for sure :D

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. yeah the whole game. Something about the atmosphere of it was quite spooky to me.

Bioshock before Hephastus. Then you get used to everything they throw at you.

Major creepiness comes from the hospital and Fort Frolic.

Seriously... whoever created Steinaman.... They would do well if they made a scary movie.

The parts of Indigo Prophecy (Fahrenheit) when you play as Carla and you have to help her overcome her claustrophobia and fear of the dark.

Its especially frightening in that insane asylum when its completely pitch black and the psychos are wandering around you.

Ok not the most scared I've been of a game but the first time i remember being startled was playing It came from the desert, a game retelling of the classic horror movie THEM!! One minute your playing happily, the next there's a really loud noise and a giant ant head right in your face!!

Yeah, they are creepy at first, then they're fun!
OT: I guess some stuff from Bioshock as well, such as the fellow in the freezer room in Fort Frolic. (Sorry, forgot his name.)
Ice man cometh
The Iceman Cometh, Sander baby, the Iceman fucking Cometh!

OT: I found the room in the Welcome to Rapture level of Bioshock 1 scary, at the moment when Atlas tells you about the 1-2 Punch.
