I'll be honest and say that I'm glad.

The movie seemed like a company trying to get a bit of the action that Kick-Ass did...
I haven't read Scott Pilgram, and I don't want to...

I'm hardly surprised. The entire set-up of Scott Pilgrim never grabbed me as particularly public-friendly, let alone any good. Not many people actually want to see a film with a nerdy main protagonist, particularly one which is fighting for a fantasy girlfriend, whereas there's still a lot of nostalgia for the action stars of The Expendables.

Hell, I wasn't even around for the hey-day of the characters in the latter, yet I'd still be a lot more interested in it. It strikes me as a lot more fun than the offensively unrealistic portrayal of a loser getting the girl in the end.
Can I just say I'm sick of seeing really hopeless, obnoxious nerds ending up with unrealistically Hollywood fake implant "gorgeous" girls?

I think it was most painful in Transformers, when the nerd was the most obnoxious and the girl the most fake, but it's such a grating Hollywood movie trope. I watched the Watchmen today (who watches the Watchmen? I do) and even though I don't like who they cast as Silk Spectre, I much preferred the developing romance in that movie. Sure, Dan is kind of nerdy, but the difference is he's just a guy, not an obnoxious stereotype us gamers have to keep seeing reinforced.

Seems that way to me, too, except it doesn't look nearly as good. I haven't seen Scott, I think I'll just read the comics.

I love the Comics and i cannot wait to see the movie, but there is nothing really for me at stake here.
Totally agree with anything said, even the stuff I have not quoted.

But are you aware my fellow German friend that our country won't see this movie before January?
I am really infuriated that we are the last place on this god forsaken earth to get a release of this film.
Probably it will be an indie/arthouse thing and you have to look all over the place to find cinemas showing the movie.

And I've been to London a week ago (should have waited a little longer). Probably I will see the film in France. Maybe I find a cinema that shows Scott Pilgrim with the original audio.

The actor who plays Scott Pilgrim is just awful and is the reason the film isn't doing well.
Successful troll is successful. I think this guy deserves a medal since his post was so original.

Many people must have thought it was a stupid, childish, concept. That's exactly what I thought when I saw the trailers.
That's also what I thought when I saw the trailer.

OT: I won't go see it in the cinemas, but I will probably end up watching The Expendable in the cinemas eventually.

Yes i am, so very, VERY much aware that the movie is delayed till next year.

I had hoped i would win an invite for an exclusive Screening at the Gamescom Cologne this Friday, but it doesn't look like that.

I'll probably will drive to Venlo (Netherlands, almost directly at the border) in September when Scott Pilgrim starts there, according to multiple sources almost EVERY movie in the Netherlands are in original audio with subtitles. (France would be an alternative, but since the French are kind of...strict when it comes to thier language it is much more likely that it will be dubbed over there).

It's a four hour drive to see a two hour movie, but hey, it IS Scott Pilgrim.

C) want to see a movie that actually provides a new and interesting take on modern relationships in the context of today's wired generation world
Congratulations, you've just discovered exactly why I don't want to watch this film. Any film which focuses primarily on romance immediately drops me as a prospective viewer.

Come on, ALL OF YOU are the target audience for this movie, and you refuse to see it. WHY?!
You're missing the point here: I'm not the target audience. Am I a nerd? Hell yes. Do I enjoy retro video games? Well, considering that I've played games dating back to the 1950s and 1960s (no, I'm not joking), I think you can extrapolate your answer from that.

Do I enjoy films with a focus on romance? Absolutely not.
hate to break it to you but the movie is more action focused than anything else.

I'm not trolling, the guy is just a shit actor, he's awful. I would have gone to see the film if it had used someone else as the main protaganist.

Box Office only cares about the US market (And Sequel go or no go are based on domestic), which is stupid and a whole new debate but still.
It hasn't opened in a lot of countries.

And I honestly don't see the appeal of the expendables. Yeah all the great actors,
You just answered your own question :p

OT: I guess it's a combination of the Cera-haters and the fact it's going up against a film with an amazing cast (which, let's be honest, the "casuals" are more likely to want to see).

Ah well. I haven't seen either yet, I want to see both...but I need money.
FUCKIN' CASUALS.

OT: FUCKIN' CASUALS.
I'm actually pretty disturbed by this.

It's not out in the UK yet so say anything too soon, Edgar Wright is going to have a much bigger following in the UK than America because of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

Oh and people saying they don't want ot see it because it has elements of romance in it can fuck off. I can't think of a film in recent years that DIDN'T have romance in it, even the fucking Expendable had a shit romance sub plot. All the Expendable has going for it is it's hyped up cast and once the first people have seen it and found out its shit it'll drop off the charts, Scott Pilgrim will have greater word of mouth and will build up a following.

It's a good thing I haven't wasted my money on either. Michael Cera is reason enough for me to NOT spend my money on a movie, let alone the fact that I didn't grow up with a console in the house. While I'll get many of the references, the fact is that I can't stand him, and the premise really isn't THAT good.

On the other hand, at least The Expendables will have shit getting wrecked, and while I don't expect the acting to be any better, at least it won't involve a bunch of rom-com schtick being delivered by an unbelievable hack.

And leave the Dolph Lundgren comparisons out; it's not his fault that he's even more wooden that Seagal... ;)

STAR WARS IS A FUCKING ROMANCE FILM WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT! Get over yourselves, try watching a film outside of the typical nerd circle of sci-fi and fantasy, don't be afraid to try someting new just because it's new. Yes there's romance but come on it's not exactly gonna be like 50 First Dates, there will be funny jokes and there will be action sequences, at least 7 of them because there's 7 evil ex's!

This is bad news why? Scott Pilgrim looks horrendous anyway.

What's actually sad, is that both these films will undoubtedly overshadow a much smaller and much more deserving film with less money to spend on advertising.

There's a big difference between a film having romance elements and being a 'romance' film. Scott Pilgrim is effectively, amongst other things, a romantic comedy. The main plot point of the film is Scott trying to get with a lady. Star Wars (at least definitely not the original trilogy), isn't. Just because Han Solo is fond of Leia, doesn't make it a romance film, because that's not the film's main focus.

You seem a little bit angry. Let me break it down for you so that you can at least try to understand why some of us aren't really that excited about Scott Pilgrim. Essentially, we're being faced with this:

Awkward video game dude chasing girl so incredibly above his level and getting her.
-or-
Enough action stars to make at least five movies, all working together to shoot guns, punch each other around and blow crap up.

I've seen far, far too many movies with awkward, hipster douches making clever and witty references while chasing a girl that would never, ever stoop to their level. The Expendables may not earn any awards for originality, let alone having a brilliant story or the best actors, but what it does have is shit getting blown up. And shit getting blown up has a timeless quality to it.

As a movie dude I can tell you Scott Pilgrim's going to make the money. The movie will continue making a half mil a day here in the US over the next 30 days and who knows how much internationally.

See, "Prince of Persia" was a failure in the USA, costing $200 million and making only $88 million... but internationally? It raked in an additional $238 million! And it hasn't even come out on DVD yet... and it doesn't include how much they've pulled from merchandise, licensing, etc.
