I'm heard of half this stuff... >_>
And seriously, whoever is saying "The Beatles" needs to learn that most of the population of the Earth knows who they are.

OT: A few I listen to that barely anyone around here knows:
Dimmu Borgir
Bishop of Hexen
After the Burial
Within the Ruins
With Faith or Flames
Drist
In Fear and Faith
Authority Zero
Strike Anywhere
Spit (N)
Caliban
Heaven Shall Burn
I.R.A.T.E.
Leadboot Marathon
Remembering Never
Slaves on Dope
Terrorbunny
100 Demons

Frankenstein drag queens anyone?
I know them, got into them after listening to Murderdolls. Also a Devin Townsend fan to the max.

As for lesser known bands I like, how about Salem, Orphaned Land, also Paradise Lost

Sick Puppies. Not that unknown but i don't really know anyone else who is a fan, but i could say the same about Soundgarden.
Soundgarden has a strong and big fanbase, Im in that fanbase, they are my favorite band. Not very unknown, but still amazing.

In case you dont know, they are back together.

Well, lesser-known on here, and lesser-known around where I am are 2 completely separate things. At any rate, the closest bands I have that qualify under both would be Scatman John and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy

Yes I like swing

There's probably quite a few on my part, but a few spring to mind. Daniel Lenz. Joe Boyd Vigil. Little People. Looper. Tilde. To name a few.

Now, if we were to tweak the meaning of "unknown" or "obscure", to mean someone that pretty much everyone has heard at one point or another yet most have no clue he exists, I'd have to say Junkie XL. That man has put out more music by himself then I'd care to imagine across a range of albums, genres, films, commercials, games, you name it. Yet the average person, when I mention his name, gives me this awkward, blank stare.

I would have to say, The Beatles.
Though they just had a game about them released, so I would say they are on the up and up.
o.0 Dear God I hope you're being sarcastic, lol.

I'm surprised at just how few people listen to Within Temptation. Also I get a lot of blank stares over Hatsune Miku but that's because most of the people I know barely know anything from Japan.

I'm always under the impression that Moby is never heard of when I talk about him.

He's a freaking brilliant artist. Listen:

Honest Bob and the Factory-to-Dealer Incentives is a great group. I know some people may know them because I think get got a song into guitar hero 2... correct me if I am wrong. Either way their album Second and Eighteen is great.

Flogging Molly, The Drop Kick Murphys
Where i'm from, Flogging Molly and DKM are fairly well known.

Uh... I guess the ones I like that are obscure (and note, this is obscurity where I live, idk if they're obscure to you) are:

The New York Dolls
The Crown Jewels / The Contes (They changed their band's name after their 3rd CD)
Voltaire
The SeatBelts
The Arrogant Worms
Toad The Wet Sprocket
Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine
Firebomber (and if you've heard of THEM, i tip my hat to you, sir or madam)
