So what's the consensus right now for the Rangers? Who's getting the axe this episode?

Me or Caitseth or FalloutJack. I'm voting Cait. Feel free to vote for me.

I gotta ask. It's been nearly 80 games. Has the Killer ever won one?
They got a list pinned somewhere in the user group.

Pretty sure the number of SK wins is like 8
*Checks*

Ten. Yes, I see. Guessing it's more about how you play, then.
A win percentage of 12.5% is still real frickin bad.

Still though, the numbers are a bit uneven. Rounds 1-40 only had 3 wins, while 41-78 have 7. 7/37 = 18.92%, which is still a little low from what I think is accepted practice (I think a Mafia win percentage of 25% is considered ideal, but I have nothing to back that up). I'm curious if the rules were radically changed somewhere in there, to cause such a difference, or whether SK's just started getting smarter.

When I first heard of this from Frappe, I immediately thought of Shadow Hunters, a board game with three types of roles" Shadow, Hunter, and Neutral. Shadows and Hunters are out to eliminate each other and it's a team effort. Neutrals have their own win conditions which may or may not work for the two actual teams. Anybody who's on a team that beats the other team wins, even if dead. Neustrals can win even when Shadows or Hunters win as long as their conditions are met as well.

Now, there's another game that I'm familiar with, a card-based game called Spyfall, which involves a bunch of people at a specific location who belong there and know what the location is...and one Spy who is trying to figure it out. Nobody knows who exactly anybody is (like in Shadow Hunters or this game), but there's no team. There's just one guy.

This game is more like Spyfall. You have the mind games and paranoia that crops up whenever I play Shadow Hunters, but even though Shadows have a certain advantage in their game, it's not the same lead as in Spyfall or here. Because this is a game LIKE Mafia - which I HAVE played as well - I can't say that it should be changed, but the track record seems to be that mostly the good guys win.

There's another boardgame I know, Betrayal at House on the Hill, which features a group of people who investigate a dark mansion (think Scooby Ganging it), and that there is one of 50 scenarios that can happen to the group which usually involves a Traitor that is out to get them for...various reasons. The thing there is that the Traitor usually has the assistance of certain monsters or special powers and equipment...or something. It's technically one guy, but he's got force-multipliers. And the best part about the game is that nobody knew who was going to turn evil until some conditions were met, and nobody knew HOW it was going to happen until that time too.

It's possible that the game needs a little tweaking is all I'm saying.

In some Mafia games I've played, the Serial Killer is a neutral role, who only wins if everybody else, Townie and Mafia, dies. Naturally, the SK doesn't tend to win often, but when they do it's a big deal. They also get a few protections, IIRC: spies can't identify them, for instance, unlike the Mafia.

I've thought that myself, and there's a few other people above echoing that... but the SK games have been going on here for at least 2 years. I don't know how consistent the rules have been over that time, but it could be that the core folks who play in most of these rounds actually like the game the way it is, SK or not, and don't want to make it more like Mafia. And it's we new guys who are coming in here and upsetting all that. And I don't want to be a carpet bagging jerk coming into their game that they let me into and telling them they need to play in the way I want.

I dunno. It might be worth opening up a thread to discuss it, or taking it over to User Group chat. Maybe the folks who've been here for a while will give their opinion on things.

Necromancer is crazy broken though, can we all agree on that?

Much as I like Frappe's creativity, I have to agree that the Necromancer isn't the best idea in the world.

I want to confirm something after I see again the rules:
Does the Unbound Phandom [Trickster-α] is still active?

Have to say, balance does irk me a bit, and I'd be open to hearing balance changes. I'm just not the most active around here. I've got more of a Mafia/Werewolf mentality so I get where you're coming from though

But as far as necromancer, that is definitely broken in combination with the spy. Using the necromancer the spy gets one question answered that he can talk about after the necro brings him back then the necro gets to ask a second spy question if I have the rules right. That means if we don't play dumb then the SK always loses now because they get narrowed down to 1/4th of the list with good play. And this is assuming absolute worst case scenario of Spy dying right away even

It would be interesting to see alternate win conditions for a 'neutral' faction, but I can't imagine what they'd be like in this game without seriously revamping the structure.

Timer seems screwed to me. Looking at the code it's set for 10:00 PM EST, which is 4.5 hours away from me, but the timer says there's only .5 hours to go?

Great Leader: Super-Mega-Fast-Strong-Ultra-Amazing-Force GOGOV team, I'm glad to inform you that we found the taco thief

* The Great Leader walks towards CaitSeith, while everyone else steps back *

CaitSeith: Wait, me!? Why?

GL: After wasting our time in votes we found this caused Shoggoth2588 "accident".

* The Great Leader throws something on the floor, and CaitSeith grows pale. *

GL: It has your fingerprints. We know because you're the only one in the team not wearing gloves.

* The team's trust has been broken. CaitSeith knew there was no way to convince them of his innocence now. *

No one stole the taco. CaitSeith just dropped it by accident, and had to throw it away.

GL: For your alliance with the forces of evil you'll suffer the dishonoring demotion from your role as team member of Super-Mega-Fast-Strong-Ultra-Amazing-Force GOGOV.

* The Great Leader removes CaitSeith's helmet and throws it away*

GL: Followed by the return of the Hyper-Megazord pinkie's keys.

CS: Ahhh... I never got to drive it!

* The Great Leader takes the vehicle keys and walks away. *

GL: And finally execution by epic explosion.

And so the mystery of the taco-thief was solved.

...too bad there's still a Killer at large.

I still think we got the worse criminal. Killing is mundane, but wrecking someone's taco is unforgivable.

Hey, does the GM have to state when a Trickster influences the vote, or is that all invisible to the rest of us?

I think only if the person who died was targeted by a trickster
