Seriously people, stop the bitching (Dragon age 2...and other games)

Why do people ***** about bitching?
The irony is so stupid.

OT- The made the mage more exciting to play for me.

Although, my first runthrough of the demo was on a warrior.
So it felt like a cheap hack-and-slash rather than Dragon Age for the first part because of the exaggerated story.

On your points on PC gamers thinking "Bioware abandoned them" by making a console port, from what I understand some PC gamers have this thing where unless a company DELIBERATELY tries to make the console port AS BAD AS POSSIBLE they'll consider them "Traitors"
I've noticed that a lot of my PC gaming brethren are far too quick to jump the gun at labeling games "shitty console ports." Mass Effect 2, of all things, is labeled as a shit console port simply because multiple actions are bound to the spacebar. Nevermind that everything else works perfectly fine, the game is shit because the spacebar does more than one thing.

Makes me sad, really.

I think you have it the wrong way round.

DA:O was a PC game that had console ports.
DA2 is a console game that has a PC port.

The distinction is a very important one for PC gamers, since PC is capable of much more than consoles.
So optimising the UI for consoles lowers the quality of the PC UI.

Now, that's not to say it will be bad, 'cos (for example) despite all the good stuff they took out when they consolified ME2, the combat was superior to ME1.
Just ... damnit, don't take out the good stuff.

After playing the Dragon Age 2 demo, I can comfortably say that nothing about it feels like a console game. Literally nothing. The interface, visuals and combat mechanics look perfectly at home on PC, and the tactics are as good as ever.

Really?
I played DA:O on Nightmare in fully zoomed out mode, issuing commands to EVERY squadmate in realtime.
The very fact that there's "no friendly fire" is a VERY BAD thing.
(I hope there's an option to enable friendly fire)
Without isometric mode, rapidly switching between characters will make you dizzy at best, and be unplayable at worst.

I never really used the isometric view in DA:O, so maybe that's where you and I differ. I was perfectly comfortable switching between characters every few moments.

Well personally, I have never heard anyone claiming it will be unsuccessful. And personally, I do not like the direction it has been taken. Some things will not change from the demo. Hawke will still be Hawke, the way Hawke acts will still be the same, they arent going to suddenly change its genre and make it and fps or rts or something silly.

It is entirely founded to make judgements based on a demo. Some, to be fair, arent exactly logical or quite right, but some make perfect sense and I am sure you understand everyone has an opinion.

I havn't had the opportunity to play it myself, to be fair, but a very trusted source of mine who understands me well said I wouldnt like it. He doesnt like it either.

A few choice points he raised, (some he exagerated, of course)

-Hawke is a human. I am happy, but I know you love elves
-3 seconds in and 3 people are dead. Oh goodie.
-Past shrouded in mystery, here meaing no backstory.
-Combat handles more like.....WoW, and less like...whats another similar game....NVWN2.
-Why is Shepard using a sword now, what on earth happened? I am tired of this, I'm going back to MNC.

You should try playing DA:O on nightmare.
I found OTS mode almost unplayable on nightmare, if for no other reason than having less vision.
Also, targeting area of effect spells was much more difficult in OTS, at least in realtime.

Pardon me, but what did they change? I played the demo. Only thing I noticed was that the actionbar and interface where a bit different and that you couldn't change races.

(Btw: Haters gonna hate)

1. You're talking like people didn't died left and right in the Origins
2. Hawke have a backstory, if you read any of the news about DA2, you would know
3. Compare Hawke with Shepard is nonsensical, almost flame bait-y

Well, JeanLuc761 played it in OTS mode, which is the same as the console except for a few more hotkeys and using different buttons.

The main difference, in DA:O, between PC and console UI is the isometric view ... which, due to its very nonexistence on consoles, forced Bioware to nerf a lot of encounters.
I.e. console DA:O was actually a different game.

Ok, I got to ask something because I've been seeing this a lot lately. I only played Origins on PS3 and friendly fire was only on for hard and nightmare difficulties. So was there an option in the PC version to turn on friendly fire in any difficulty for the PC? If not, it's worth remembering demos are usually of the normal or easy difficulty if you cannot change it. Which you couldn't in the PS3 demo. I don't think. Maybe I should check that lol.

I wouldn't know, actually ... I only ever played on nightmare.

Yeah, the demo was on normal. Friendly fire is still there, it's just that you have to play on the higher difficulties to see it.

My point, however, is that unless the AI in DA:O is significantly improved on, friendly fire would be horrible without isometric view.
Which is what I wrote in my first post in this thread ... I don't really mind if they removed isometric view, which was the BETTER UI in DA:O, if they improve on the tactics options so I can manage stuff such as friendly fire.

EDIT:
Inb4 anyone says forced pausing is an acceptable solution.
Forced pausing in any real-time game is not in any way a good thing.

Man, I really hope it's good. I loved the first one, and I was even thinking about pre-ordering the second. People do need to at least give the game a chance.

I actually quite liked most of the changes, the button mashing makes squad control harder but not impossible and I used to just make robust AI tactics then leave them to it unless I needed reviving anyway.

so, get over it, at it's core it'll still be the story driven character based RPG you all know and love and it's not like origins wasn't horribly flawed anyway and you still liked that right?

You have a point. I could never play Origins on my 360 on anything above normal because my mage would kill everyone. I really don't get why they don't offer the isometric view on consoles; are we ALL eight year olds who can't handle... stuff that works?
