Then they talk about treacherous conditions
Urgh can't they at least think of a new word that's all they ever said last time

I was gonna post this after reading first post... Beat me to it! But I've already noticed the coverage last night, with reporters standing out in a blizzard trying to tell us about how its snowing...

I blame the BBC being southern.

Honestly, I'm in the south at the moment, and for the past week or two, they've been whining about how cold it is. Sometimes it's a bit chilly, but nothing colder.

Weaklings. I thought it was almost t-shirt weather today- it was only a bit of snow.

Exactly. I haven't bothered getting dressed yet today 'cos I woke up late. So I've been having my smokes in the garden in a bath-robe and flip-flops!!

Ha! They should come to Scandinavia. "Oh the horrors of 15 cm of snow!"
Exactly, just what I was going to say...

Seriously, here in Norway we can get metres of snow, and we cope just fine. It's not even an issue.

Buy some snow ploughs and winter tyres. Problem solved.

Just have one of these sitting in the back yard for when the weather turns icy. It did, after all, make it all the way to the north pole piloted by a couple of idiots.

A couple of drunk idiots.

I hope it snows here in the south of Ireland, it snowed for a bit this morning byt it didn't stick.

Indeed.

That sounds like a bit of exaggerating to me. Snow is not poisonous.
I can't but laugh whenever I hear the term 'snow day'.

Damn straight. My gf lives in Paris, and I was there last winter. Not even 3 cm of snow, and the whole city just shuts down. Metros stop running, busses get stuck, arilines can't fly...It's so funny.
Meanwhile in Norway we've been enjoying a solid 50 cm of snow since October. My opinion, MAN UP! It's just snow, ain't gonna kill you.

The few weeks were a pain in the arse last winter.

Also you've got to remember that:

a) we haven't really been getting more than one or two days of snow a year until recently, really - as such this is unusual and we're not as prepared/used to it as scandinavians would be.
b) A lot of our roads are country roads on which snow can cause complete havoc. See a) for why.

In sum, meh. I hope the snow goes away because I don't want to drive in it - and it's bloody freezing in the West Midlands I don't care what you say - but I don't think the BBC or people in general really make that big a deal of it. It's more of a novelty than panic.

Also I would argue that while it is true that the British mentality is to complain, no-one, themselves included, really takes complainers seriously. It's been good-natured grumbling, mostly.

I want some snow to fall here in NW. Its been ages since we had anything more than 2cm. Last year was awesome when it snowed.
North West? It it has snowed here a tiny bit, maybe only a couple of cm but I guess its still snow :)
I live in Leyland near Preston. We havent seen a single flake. =(
Agreed. I would go so far as to say its almost WARM up here in Bamber Bridge. Certainly sunny. Sunnier than september I'd say.

Here in the US, Ohio to be specific, our weather people don't make a big deal out of snow.

In the spring, however; When they see just one dark could it's "TORNADOOOOOOOOOO! Get in your basements!!!!!!!". So annoying.

Yeah I remember last years hilariously dramatic coverage of it. And I also remember Charlie Brookers take on it which I am glad to see has been posted here. What I remember most of all is walking up to collage only to find it completely abandoned. I was the ONLY ONE who even tried to get to work. Its hilarious, but a the same time I really like this tradition, means we can all relax at home with a warm fire and play some video games.

My province, 2004. Up to 39 in of snow around the province. In my town, we had just over 2 feet. Wasn't the end of the world. I love Canada.

It's part of British culture to over react and shut everything down when a centimetre of snow falls. I don't want that changed at all, it's funny.
Our school was closed because only 7 teachers turned up. The rest stayed at home over an inch of snow. British culture! Wooo!

I-...I can't hold it back any longer... *cries hysterically*

What the heck? Some snow comes and yer all over it in the news? Hell, we Norwegians first start commenting on the weather once it starts breaking some records! (Which happened a lot all over our country lately because of some wind comin from up north or from Siberia or something). Hell, our MAILMEN keep delivering our mail even in a FREAKIN' -43,5 degrees Celcius (now THAT is cold), and you don't see 'em complaining! (actually read that interview today in the newspaper about a mailman who didn't think it was cold back then, and had a cellphone picture of his dashboard that the newspaper published).
