Thoughts, opinions? Is using your body okay for attention? Is it cool for these girls to give the rest of us bad names?
Guys are just very visually stimulated. Hence, why there are so many websites devoted to pornography and a plethora of other pictures/movies/games to be found anywhere that the average guy would enjoy
drooling over looking at.
I thought Mass Effect was nicely done - granted, there was a "sex scene", but it could have just as easily been your character with a man - or an alien "it". I thought it was still presented in good taste and not something that was marketed more towards men. If anything, it could've been one of those Lifetime made for TV movies - minus the husband beating up his wife and coming back to kill her when she tries to leave him.
I have to admit I liked Dead or Alive, the fighting game. I rented the volleyball game, but I felt guilty "playing" it, and my wife actually had more fun with it than I did. I didn't end up buying it though, because it would've been for the wrong reasons.
On the other hand, I was pretty offended when Blizzard introduced the bikini-armor to WoW for the females. What is the point of armor if it's just going to look like a bikini? A lot of female gamers were offended over this. While I think there should be "sexy" type armor/clothes in the game, as an option, it shouldn't be mandatory to have to look
that way in order to receive the stats boost and have good armor.
I don't think it is going to change in our lifetime. The people that are trying to sell a product know that adding sexual content to their games/ads will catch the eye of a majority of boys/men - which happen to the the majority of game players. Look at the Frag Dolls - I don't care if they're good at games, they're there as sex symbols.
I love it when I run across a girl gamer on live that can tear me up on a game - happened last night on Call of Duty 4. It's great to see a girl that is devoted to gaming and having fun with it, rather than one pretending to like it or one of those E3 models showcasing a game they've probably never heard of.
I applaud Valve for creating female characters in Half-Life 2 and Portal that they're not trying to sell for "sex" value.
